Just an retired old biddy wandering around interesting places with: a) a GoPro Hero8 and b) an old codger wearing a hat who seems to wander into many of the shots. Play spot the bobble hat.

A Wander Around RHS Garden Wisley
RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey is the historic home of the Royal Horticultural Society. It is its flagship garden and is one of the UK’s most visited and best-loved gardens, spanning 240 acres.
The original garden was the creation of George Fergusson Wilson - businessman, scientist, inventor and keen gardener, and a former Treasurer of the RHS. In 1878 he purchased the site and established the ‘Oakwood experimental garden’, with the idea of making ‘difficult plants grow successfully’.
After Wilson's death in 1902, Sir Thomas Hanbury purchased Oakwood and adjoining Glebe Farm and donated it to the Royal Horticultural Society for its perpetual use.

National Trust: Basildon Park

Basildon Park is a country house in 400 acres of parkland and gardens, south of Goring in Berkshire. The house was built 1776-1783 and was designed in the Palladian style. The house had a succession of owners over the centuries and, following its requisition in both World Wars, the house and estate fell into disrepair and decline, becoming virtually derelict. In 1952 the house was saved from al...

Westbury Court Garden is a Dutch water garden in Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire. It is a rare survival of 17th century garden design and was initially laid out by the owner of Westbury Court, Maynard Colchester, in 1696-1705. The garden's centrepiece is a 449 ft long canal centred on a Dutch style pavilion at one end. It has a summer house overlooking another T-shaped canal, vegetable gard...
English Heritage: Goodrich Castle

Standing in open countryside above a broad loop in the river Wye, near the Anglo-Welsh border, Goodrich Castle is one of the finest and best preserved of all English medieval castles. It was owned successively by the Marshal, Valence and Talbot families, many of them important figures in war and national politics. Despite its border position between England and Wales, the castle led a mostly pe...
National Trust: Tintinhull Garden
Просмотров 372 месяца назад
Tintinhull Garden in Somerset was created last century, around an elegant 17th-century manor house built from local Ham Hill stone. It was originally laid out in the Arts and Crafts style by Phyllis Reiss, who, with her husband, bought Tintinhull in 1933 and who left it to the National Trust in 1961 on her death. From 1979 to 1993, it was in the tenancy of the garden writer and gardener Penelop...
English Heritage: Old Wardour Castle
Просмотров 762 месяца назад
Now managed by English Heritage, Old Wardour Castle is a ruined medieval castle set in landscaped grounds in the Wiltshire countryside. The hexagonal castle was built in the late 1390s for John, the 5th Lord Lovell, one of the richest barons in England and a kinsman of Richard II . It came into the ownership of the Arundell family in the 16th century, who “modernised” it and made it a luxurious...
Kyle of Lochalsh: Seaprobe Atlantis
Просмотров 1423 месяца назад
This was the Codger's surprise birthday treat - and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Departing Kyle of Lochalsh, the Seaprobe Atlantis is a “semi-submersible glass bottom boat” - a boat with windows ingeniously incorporated in its hull, meaning that marine life from kelp to jelly fish, seahorses to crabs can be seen from down in the hull. Timed to match low tide to ensure a seabed view, the 2-hour tri...
Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides. The island has a series of peninsulas radiating out from a centre dominated by the mighty Cuillin mountains. We stayed on Skye for 4 nights after our trip to the Outer Hebrides. After the peace and tranquillity of those Western Isles, Skye came something as a shock. It is now rather too busy for its infrastructure, with badly pot-holed sing...
Ullapool and Scenes of Scotland

Ullapool is a picturesque fishing town and port on the shores of Loch Broom in Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. The ferry to Stornoway, MV Loch Seaforth, leaves from here. We visited Ullapool in May 2024, at the start of our trip to the Outer Hebrides. The journey to and from Ullapool passes through some stunning Scottish scenery. However, its intended filming was thwarted by...

No idea! Lots of livestock on remote roads in the Highlands and Islands.

@@christinamandacodgerinahat thank you
Beautifully filmed, informative without intrusive commentary. I had never heard of this Abbey, it must have been magnificent. Henry VIII and his sidekick Cromwell have an awful lot to answer for, such mindless destruction.
Beautifully filmed - lovely camera work all so well explicit and some shots were almost 3D. So nice to see gentle thoughtful filming. It was comprehensive enough to avoid having to visit the place. Super stuff
@@theprior46 Thank you for your lovely comments!
Been here loved it xx
Fantastic watch.

My husband and I have travelled all through the outer hebrides from stornoway Lewis Harris and all the way to Barra in a moter home back in 2010 and still visit the island from time to time and are heading back in September with our daughter and son in law 2024 to let them see the real beauty of our country. Don't put it off you must go and see for yourself ❤
@@charlenemcaulay5353 Hope you have a wonderful trip in September with your family. We were there again this last May (there’s another set of videos!) - such special islands.
Wow...How nice it is😊🥰🏴
Slightly worrying bit at 13:16 with oncoming car on wrong side of the road!
?? The whole video is only 15:14, so I'm not sure where you mean. I do hope I wasn't misusing single track roads!
@@christinamandacodgerinahat Sorry that was a typo. It was at 13:16, Corrected now It was the other car that was on the wrong side.
OMG, watching this video has brought me peace. Thank you so much.
It's something else. On my to do list. Thank you
What a lovely birthday surprise!
Fab video again, guys. Skye is now too popular in the summer for me. My next trip there will be in the winter, good job I don't mind the cold.
Did you go to Skyfall scene ? The ending is unexpected, in unremarkable place ..
I haven't watched the film so I'm sorry - I don't know what you're refering to.
I Love Reeth ❤
This could be Ireland - even the sheep look Irish😊!
😂
Dear Hebridean travelers, another very successful audio vision about "common" paths, lakes and places - here reminiscences and longings are awakened for our next life ;-)
That was a nice Sunday treat - thank you. 😎 ('like' given, it shows a white thumbs up, but it says '0' 🙁)
What a lovely video, it brought back so many nostalgic memories, I was brought up in Richmond but moved away 40 years ago, I haven’t been back since and it’s good to see nothing much has changed Oop Dales . I particularly enjoyed the Delius at the start( I’m a professional violinist in an orchestra). The water splash/ ford has particular meaning as my parents regularly had picnics with me and my sister up there on Sunday afternoons in the summer. After seeing your video I now have a real itch to come back home and visit wonderful Swaledale. Thank you
What a lovely message - thank you. And I'm pleased you liked the music - as long as copyright issues allow, I prefer to use classical music to back my videos, especially if there is a connection between the music and the images (wasn't Delius a Yorkshire chap?). No lousy rackets for me! The Dales (and Swaledale in particular) mean a great deal to me - in my childhood I used to go on holiday up there regularly with my parents. A glorious part of the world and I hope you get to return.
🇧🇷♥️
Dear Christina M and your second best half in one hat, It's a pity, it's a pity that your second visit to the Hebrides has come to an end - Maybe you'll do the old German saying "All good things come in threes!" true and drive over again - we would be there again with all our hearts, eyes shining and ears pricked - In our next life we will definitely make up for our second visit - this includes the longed-for place of St Kilda. Meinhard & Sigrid
If you were up there on May 10th, perhaps you caught the Northern Lights which were particularly vivid on that evening? Those islands are so beautiful they need no embellishment from Northern Lights or anything else. 😀
love your channel ❤️ .
Thank you very much!
Dear Christina M and your Kautz in and with a hat, Our wait for the sequel has come to a happy end - what a successful yet another true masterpiece of audio vision. For me and my wife, another deeply moving reminiscence of our hiking holiday in the Outer Hebrides. The combination of the calmly moving images with the beautiful matching pieces of music moved us deeply again. The opening credits with "my" Ceapabhal and the closing credits with "my" Huishinish are wonderfully successful. From Ceapabhal I was able to see "my" St Kilda archipelago 60 km away - it will probably remain my last place of longing - take a look at this youtube link: ruclips.net/video/IzInG7u7wRo/видео.html - it doesn't have to be a trip from Oban - it also works on your next holiday from Leverburgh. Then we remain with kind regards from Offenburg in SymBaden on the edge of the Black Forest in Old germany - unfortunately, far too far away from all the islands on the edge of the world your ancients Meinhard & Sigrid Roggisch
It's probably the most beautiful coast line in the world.
I've literally just got back from Harris. Absolutely beautiful 😍
It is such a special treat for me to have access to a second helping of Lewis/Harris from you. It looks as if there may be more of the Outer Hebrides from you from further South.
Perhaps the great unspoilt outdoors is the best place of worship of all.
I love beach therapy and you found some splendid beaches for the experiences of different moods of the sea and variations of light.
I cannot imagine how hard life was for persons who lived a long time ago in black houses and lesser dwellings. As late as the 17th Century ordinary highlanders had no shoes; they walked in ice and snow barefoot.
This book portrays a vivid account of life on Harris (in Scarista) at the start of the 20th century Crowdie And Cream And Other Stories: Memoirs of a Hebridean Childhood amzn.eu/d/8FLdTN8
@@christinamandacodgerinahat That was kind of you and I have written it down, but my in tray is piled high already and have loads of other necessitous things to do.
Thanks for introducing me to the historical reconstructions I knew nothing about.
Superb treatment of Saint Moluag's with the music of one version of the 23rd Psalm; a moving emotional experience for me; ta muchly. I wonder, are simple places of Christian worship the best?
Well, each to their own, but personally I’d agree. I find it a place of simple serenity.
Stunningly beautiful.
Thanks for going to all the trouble to share your experience with this old codger; well done with all the music too!
Supercalifragilistiexpialidocious as Mary Poppins would say and I agree whole heartedly!
Beautiful
Pristine, pure, heavenly; 'the meek shall inherit the earth'. Will your heavenly mansion include Harris?
I am not surprised you went back. I am pleased you introduced Harris to friends who had not been before.
what a successful surprise - your truly magnificent audio vision - a reunion for us too with places from our hiking holiday in the Hebrides - masterful, calm camera work, wonderful background and musical accompaniment - another masterpiece - my wife and I will continue to follow you faithfully - Unfortunately we are no longer able to go on a trip like this together - maybe I can still visit my dream destination St Kilda
Thank you for your very kind comments - I am happy that these videos bring others joy. Harris is just being edited as we speak!
@@christinamandacodgerinahat Then we are already looking forward to Harris - to the hike Hushinish, Cravadale and back over the Traigh Mheilein - for your next visit to Lewis Dun Carloway Broch and the site of the Lewis Chessman (near Mangersta).

Another great video and nice music, too. What a place. I must have watched your 17 part Hebridian odyssey a dozen times, I love it. I even sourced a cd of the music you used. Celtic Tranquility - William Jackson. I hope to travel the outer hebrides in my little micro camper myself next April. Can't wait.
What a lovely, lovely comment! I'm so very touched. I love William Jackson's music and I'm glad that his publisher allows me to use his music on RUclips despite copyright. I'm excited for you travelling next April - a good month to visit. Well before any midges and hopefully some decent weather. The gorse should just be coming out..... (I don't know where you are, but Spring is nearly a month later up there compared with South England). Tip: Of course, the Hebrides are amazing in whatever weather, but to see them at their very best, sunshine helps. So we always stay more days than we think we'll need to increase the chances of at least one day of sunshine on each island. Just so you know, I don't think the iron age house at Bosta opens until 1st May each year, although of course you can walk to it.
@christinamandacodgerinahat I retired last September, so I intend to spend 2 or 3 weeks travelling the outer hebrides, whatever takes my fancy really. Oh, and I'm in Stockport, Greater Manchester.
Very nice views and music! Thank you for sharing!!
Very nice, brings back memories of being in Scotland. My last trip up there was in September 2021, but we went there (and back) by air, and thereafter mostly 'let the train take the strain' for a very enjoyable Train & Coach based tour of central and northern Scotland. 😎
please note that if you go to visit the stones there will be a couple of hundred tourists there. If there are a couple of coaches then up on the hill it will be busy. It's a stunning place to visit but it's not quiet.
We find it depends on the time of day. The filmed visit took place around 6-7 pm and by the time we left we had the place to ourselves. We’ve just spent 5 days at a B&B about 1/4 mile away so saw it many times. Daytimes can be busy - particularly if cruise ships (albeit small) are around the island - but early morning or evening visits were calm and tranquil. Sunsets are a good time to visit. We’re currently on Skye after 2 weeks on the Western Isles and Skye feels like a theme park in comparison!! Far too busy for us.
A very enjoyable video, thankyou.
