    I recently learned everything you just shared in freshman psychology class. And before that, my 8th grade teacher who is an occupational therapist, also taught us this basic and fundamental information on how to grow into a well adjusted adult. This is not new info. Im glad you found it out in your old age too. Easier said than done to use the knowledge in real life, I know

      Excellent point. I actually say that same thing in one of my workbooks. I point out "recover" implies getting something back. What is it we're "getting back" when we recovery? Perhaps our original spiritual connection.

      That would be the implication of "social" use. If using doesn't cause you any problems, it's not a problem. The tough part is being honest with yourself about whether there's anything negative occurring or not. It doesn't have to necessarily "getting in trouble."

    Jung did not believe in God, he believed consciousness. The psychic change is being delivered from darkness by God. He restores you back to sanity and the “spirits” flee. Hey will come back if you let them in.

    I really enjoyed this video. You said something so profound that I never thought about. Whatever addictions we have we do them because we think they'll make us feel whole. That really sheds light and makes it easier to say no to them because I know they will not make me whole.

      @JimSavageRecovery 2 месяца назад

      Yup. Exactly the same for me. I wasn't in pain. I wasn't trying to fill some void. I just loved getting high. It was only after I got sober I started to see that maybe there was something to that desire for spiritual, mystical experience. Today I can see how perhaps huffing gasoline for hours on end in 6th grade, then graduating to LSD in high school, chasing the ultimate psychedelic experience may have had something to do with that.

      Well, I'll admit it's taken a while to sort out my thought on the subject, as I need to be open-minded about the potential value for certain aspects of falls under the umbrella of psychedelic assisted mental health ttreat,ment. It took a couple of talks to recognize that my one big concern is as I said in there, the concern that this creates for compromising recovery for people who struggle with a substance use disorder..Thanks for the comment!

    There is no mystery in the in those drugs.......only fake spiritual sneak peaks.....demons use them to open you up to further control.....if you wanna come close to God and have true impactful revelation then you need to clense yourself in the blood of Jesus follow the Holy Spirit and then fast until GOD speaks........the whole world is trying to divert you from Yeshua Hamishiac......The Word my God.

    I used to be anti-12-step back in the days. But after having had a spiritual crisis/bottom last fall after nearly 5 years of sobriety, I am now all about following the steps as outlined in the Big Book. So I appreciated your comment at 4:05 about options for a more secular approach to recovery for some. It seems to me that going to 12-step looking for secular recovery is part of the reason that the recovery rates have drastically declined since the Bill W / Dr. Bob days. Yes, lots of people get sobriety out of going to meetings and getting a sponsor, but many (most?) don't actually get the promises of the BB/12 steps if they try to avoid the spiritual aspect. And despite what Ebby told Bill, the BB as written doesn't tell people to come up with their own concept of God; steps 3 and 11 refer to "God as we understood Him." We can never truly understand God (or the many different ways the BB refers to the Higher Power, like Creative Intelligence, Great Reality, Spirit of the Universe etc) which is why we don't have to do the steps with a specific understanding ... just be willing to be open We Agnostics (BB chapter 4). And this doesn't mean, like I heard recently, having your HP be cheese! Anyone who needs more info on just how spiritual the 12 step program is (at least as written in the Big Book) should look into AA's early history, and especially how the program was informed by the Oxford Group. That's how both Bill W and Dr. Bob got sober! One quibble with the talk: I think your paraphrase of Jimmy Stewart and It's a Wonderful Life at 8:36 left a little to be desired. His character was actually a very nice guy who was pushed to the edge after a long life of giving to others at his own expense. And he didn't change after jumping into the river, he changed after Clarence (the angel) granted his wish and saw how life would be if he'd never been born. And he's taken through a fairly longish "spiritual experience" where he finds out how just how wonderful his life had been. Just sayin' ... not a big huge deal in terms of the point of your talk, but it's a classic movie. Had to comment. 😊

      Hey, thanks for all the various elements you touch on. I can go on, right there with you on all the defining of God, etc. But the Jimmy Stewart point-lol, look at the comments below. This is misleading and monochromatic. You made one statement, and people may arrive at the conclusion (based on how you worded the video) that it’s up to the family to police their children and think they can “fix” them. Nobody can really help an alcoholic/addict other than another alcoholic/addict. You know that.

    Makes sense I think This is why people should be getting trip-sitters and possibly (I'm not too well educated on this stuff) a medical professional to make sure they're okay Anyone can have a bad trip and if you're taking something like this to improve mental health cause you're not doing too well it can also have a lasting negative effect as supposed to a positive one Be safe peeps ❤

    • @JimSavageRecovery
      @JimSavageRecovery 4 месяца назад

      The "tripsitter" role would be a lot more than just a friend sitting with a person and telling them "it's OK" if they start freaking out. Rather someone who begins the educational process about what they're doing, what they're trying to accomplish, and the responsibilities that go along with asking the spiritual world for help long before they actually do it. And then being able to help them process what happened. In the indigenous culture, this would be the shaman who interprets what the spirits imparted to the initiate.
