Facebook’s DESPERATE Attempt to Attract Gen Z
How Meta Lost Gen Z and How it’s Trying to Get Them Back With Its New Facebook Redesign
It’s been a long time since Facebook was considered cool. That wasn’t a problem for Meta until Gen Zs started becoming adults, with many never having had a Facebook account and potentially writing off the platform all together. By 2021, Facebook found itself in a catastrophic position, with millennials aging out of the ‘young adult’ category and Gen Zs increasingly wedded into TikTok as their go-to platform of choice.
But now Gen Zs are nearly all adults, with all the responsibilities and differing priorities that come with it, Facebook has a prime opportunity to appeal to them at this new stage in their...

AI girlfriends like Replika, Character AI and Botify AI are nothing new but there’s an alarming growing dependency on them, often by emotionally vulnerable people. This can be seen in places like Reddit, where users share their experiences with AI romantic partners, often positively but also describing their inability to function without them. There’s a lot of debate round whether we’re lonelie...

Toxic Social Media Comments Are Getting Out of Hand & the Role That TikTok Live Played in Stoking the Riots that Rocked Britain It feels like social media’s getting toxic more by the day. And short-form video, like TikTok and especi...

The Digitine & Why Social Media Revolutions Fail. The promise of the digital guillotine, or the ‘digitine’, was great - a mass movement to cut celebrities and influencers down to size for their failure to speak up on important issues. For too long, they had been able to stay silent on the crises of our times while enjoying money from sponsorships and ad revenue, and flaunting their wealth at ev...
Skibidi Toilet & the Brain Rot Simulation
Просмотров 9062 месяца назад
Brain rot content like Skibidi Toilet has become an epidemic on platforms like TikTok and RUclips Shorts, and is adored by Gen Z and Gen Alpha, but is it all a simulation? Depending on who you ask, brain rot content either follows in a long tradition of media that alarms older generations but ultimately proves to be harmless, or it represents the poisoning of young minds with disturbing, inane ...
The Bean Soup Effect & What Influencers Mean to Us

Is everything all ‘me me me’ these days? If you asked content creators, many would say ‘yes’. Creators have been talking about their experiences of unrealistic expectations from their audiences, whether that be asking for information that can be found with a quick Google search or asking for versions of recipe with the core ingredients changed. When the latter example happened to one creator - ...

(Correction: “I use the phrase ‘severe autism’ in this video, which is not correct. ‘Heavy needs’ is the appropriate phrase.) Dead Internet Theory & the Human Rot
Просмотров 13 тыс.4 месяца назад
You’ve probably seen the phrase ‘dead internet theory’ thrown around a lot online. The theory suggests that since around 2012, the internet has been overrun by bots and AI-generated content. It’s a notion straight out of a cyberpunk novel, sparking both fascination and confusion, especially on platforms like TikTok. We trace its origins from obscure imageboards to a 2021 Agora Road forum post, ...

Dating Gurus & How Meta Profits Off The Male Loneliness Epidemic The state of dating is grim - regardless of gender, there's currently a general pessimism about the ability to find suitable romantic partners. Free TV & How They Got You Watching Ads Again

When Netflix became many people’s go-to for streaming TV online in the early 2010s, it felt like the days of watching ads with your favourite shows were coming to an end. In recent years though, there’s been a reversal of this trend, with many streaming services, including Netflix, now offering cheaper ad-supported tiers. We’ve even seen an explosion in free ad-supported streaming services, whe...

AI & the Terrifying Future of Romance Scams
They deleted all my instagrams n facebooks so they can kiss my anis
I'm surprised there are any Gen Z Facebook users left. It was already seeming pretty dead in 2019, when I left.
I stopped using Facebook when rhey stopped being a platform for original gaming, cut off the game feed from posts, & switched to hosting mobile apps. To me, they were more like STEAM & they lacked the funny meme accounts & widely shared art posts Twitter had.
Forget gen z, even I as a millennial gave up on Facebook in late 2010's.
I quit Facebook long time ago when I made a group and thought my photos are within the group but not true at all. My family members saw photos even they are not within the group.
I get censored and banned for the wildest shit i just dont bother anymore. Also the site is filled with gore sex and ai garbage. No joke Facebook is the single largest source of gore and snuff content on earth.
Even as a teen years ago I never wanted a Facebook, I was forced onto it against my will due to my sister making me an account and putting my pictures on the internet without my consent. I was only 12 or 13 but was bombarded with creepy old men commenting on photos of me in dresses I was forced to wear that I absolutely hated. I had to remove all the pictures and change my password as my sister was nosey and always tried to keep control over me.
Unfortunately, when it comes down to what truly matters, it's just Gen Z and Gen Alpha replacing one brain rot with another. I wish this meant young people were leaving social media in general instead...
I got banned almost ten years ago because I had no pictures of myself (I did, just old ones) so they demanded I show my ID. At the time, i used it often enough that I DID show my ID like a moron, but then they just... didn't care? And my account was banned forever. Well, talk about a blessing in disguise.
I musta lucked.out back then, or you got reported. I created an account in the early 2010s, I never posted a single pic of myself, used a fake name, never asked for my ID. Never banned or threatened with a ban.
So what your saying is they NEEED kids
Missed opportunity at the end to say "join my course to find out!" ❤❤
There should be a study case on how FB converted its own feed from something somewhat decent to utter garbage
Its AI is way better than chatgpt
I see how social media can useful, I don't like social media. I think we would be better without it considering the way it's used to.
i just use facebook for shitposting and trolling until i get banned, its all just bots ads and scams, its a useless site
Left Facebook for constantly bombarding me with same people I don't know or don't want to be friend with.
MarketPlace is why a lot of people I know use FB. I stopped using FB when the groups I joined began booting out anyone not stating allegiance to THEIR political choice (Americans). They seemed to forget that other countries have their own politics to be concerned about.
Why should chat bots have restrictions? It should be no ones business what you write with a computer program imho...
As an old lady who remembers when Facebook wasn't rendered useless by engagement-hungry algorithm changes, I recommend that younger users not even get involved with the hot mess it's turned into. I'm only there because my family is, don't even get started if you don't have to.
I just want to be able to sort my feed by new again! 90% of my feed is garbage ads now, too. The one thing it was good for was keeping in touch with people, now I have to go digging around to find their posts.
U mentioned skibidi toilet like twice, Calling it brain rot is just some social stigma but when you watch the whole thing you realise that it's not actually brain rot.
And that mf is never going to.
I got banned from Facebook after making a new, second account after they wouldn’t send me my password reset code for the first one. They denied my repeal, so it’s not any loss for me. If they want me there, they can change their ban process to actually filter out the bots and not hit humans.
I musta lucked out, or you got.reported. I had 4 accounts for gaming & never got banned. & between the two of us, I was more i the.wrong.
I think Facebook will come roaring back. Just like Myspace and Yahoo did.
as a gen z yes i don’t use facebook because of its reputation for fearmongering, however I could say the same for instagram (owned by meta) and youtube (owned by google) so it’s nice that people are trying to make alternative social medias like Diem and I hope they expand to become bigger and hopefully better platforms. I think intergenerationally we all agree that these greedy companies have wasted too much of our time and we’d just like to have healthier feeds or less time on them ✌️
As a millennial who’s grown wary of social media in general, I’d rather we just stop going on social media. Any new platform that manages to grow and overtake the established ones will eventually become just as enshittified as.
100% yes.
i got banned from facebook as soon as i made my account without any possibility for repeal. I can happily live without it
2-3b active users? I think it’s safe to assume 60-70% of that are bots
3-world countries etc use facebook a lot . And boomers... Else its pretty mich true bout bots
when is the last time you talked to your neighbours or an stranger, that what social media can never replace
I am surrounded by people every day. But they seem empty and consumed by screens.
*Great video.* However, I believe that Facebook will continue to lose users.
How long does it take to make the whole video (from script to editing - which is probably the most time-consuming part)?
Seriously, It would be interesting for you to make a video (and whole research) on why a channel like yours is having such a hard time growing up. It would even be useful for you.
Thank you for the suggestion! I try and do videos on topics that haven't already been covered too much, and I think that's already been covered quite a bit. I try and make each video an improvement on the last, that's just what I'm focused on :)
I’m late to the party, but this was very well done and I wish it had more views. The enemy of men isn’t women, it’s the greedy and corrupt
Thank you! Yeah, I wish this one did better because it’s one of my favourites.
Im using saying this unironically, instagram comments need to be studied. Like why does everyone just devolve into a goblin on there ? I need genuine academic research into this😂
What does skibidi toilet have to do with this?
It actually contains dialogues from episode 70
This is fucking hilarious.
I think we are holding AI to way too high of a standard. There are so many vapid people that can't hold conversation or just wait their turn to speak rather than listen and flow through the conversation organically.
Nah, we are absolutely lonelier today and the difference is huge with me and everyone I have around me. With some even having their first depression ever because of it.
Futuramas robosexuality laws should be made real
Considering the fact that dating has reared it's ugly head and shown that it's not all it's cracked up too be and can be dangerous at times and being a complete chore and disappointment (especially for men), it just makes sense, that and take into account that's it's becoming much harder to talk with your fellow human being these days, people are going to look for alternatives to their problems and the potential solution is AI. The one question you have to ask yourself as a man or woman is, "What do we have or What is available too us" once you ask that question, it's no surprise why AI's are getting more and more popular. That being said however, I don't see these AI relationships being all that good as of right now, for the simple fact that, we don't really understand AI all that well and it's just kinda in its infancy stage and on top of that, the people that seem to make these AI's are usually doing it to monetize it in some shape or form or using it to gather information about the user (cause obviously, someone had to be checking these logs and all that from these AI's so your information was never really private anyway, that even goes for the Ai's and stuff on youtube as well), then you have people that while they do like AI, they miss that "human-touch," so it can be a bit of a turn off, but as of right now people are having those sentiments, if AI gets really good in the future where, you can't tell AI from human any longer, then this thought process could change drastically. In the end, this is all getting more popular, cause let's be real with ourselves, real life dating is just a hassle and with AI you don't have to go through the constant rigamarole of relationships in general and while I will say that having a real relationship with a human being is preferred, for your average person out there that just isn't becoming the case and it shows. All it really takes is for more research and these companies being competent hopefully enough to make the AI's quality enough to where nobody can ignore how appealing they are and the endless amount of options that you will have at your disposal.
Really seems like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. Not only will ai fail to repair the social void forming in the dating scene it will harm expectations as you will be able to shop around for an ai that's perfect and has zero human flaws meaning you will never learn to compromise with another person in romantic or platonic relationships.
@@Joutube_is_trash The question to that is aside from the platitudes that you tend to hear about how human connection is the thing we should be seeking after, what about modern relationships is appealing that this doesn't warrant an alternate solution, cause last time I checked, human relationships are going in the toilet right now. That also doesn't sound like a bad idea either, cause you always have people talking about finding the "perfect partner" or "someone that completes you" which in a way is calling that person "perfection" even though you could go out and potential finally someone that you have a lot in common with that's on the same level if not better than your current partner and that could be in the hundreds if not thousands, so bearing that in mind why is it such a bad idea to find the perfect "AI' that you get along with and doesn't give you any issues? Just think for a moment too, imagine you do all this "learning to compromise" with said partner, you get to know this person for years, going through a lot of hardship trying to handle your problems with each other in a healthy manner and then one day your partner tells you, "I'm not happy in the relationship anymore" around 20-30 years of marriage, someone you shared tons of personal things too, just suddenly got bored of you and wants to move onto something else, wasting practically most of your life, if that's the human experience that you are trying to sell people on then, I'd gladly pass.
@@Joutube_is_trash Then the question I have to ask you for this is, what exactly is so good about human relationships to warrant your statement? As far as I'm concerned most people are unhappily, so much so that they would rather seek companionship elsewhere and AI being that thing and it's a little strange that you mention "expectations" when human standards (mostly for woman, but you do have those few men as well) have gotten so out of hand that no mere mortal would be able to satisfy and you would practically have to be a borderline superhero. It also doesn't make sense here as well when you say, "being able to shop around for an AI that's perfect and has zero flaws," when you have again, human beings getting with someone and thinking that one person is so special that they're basically perfect and makes them "whole" even though, with millions of human beings being on planet earth, statistically speaking you could find multiple partners that share the same interest and be just as suited if not better than the partner that you are with. Just think too, picture you been with someone for...let's say 20-30 years tops, you both been through it all with each other, sticking it through and handling problems in a healthy manner and you both been together for so long that you both practically know everything there is to know about each other, but then one day that 20-30 year relationships ends with the person saying, "I don't want to be in this relationship anymore," cause it's run it's course and now they're bored of you, and those 20-30 year, all that time you spent telling this person most of the personal things about yourself you wouldn't have told many other people (assuming here anyway) for all of it just to have meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, if that's your idea of a great relationship, then I don't know what to tell you. Also, I sent you a reply not too long ago, and somehow it's not there anymore so I had to write another, the only thing I can assume that either RUclips too it down or maybe someone reported it, I don't know, but it was gone, so not sure what happened there.
Hot take: I don’t think that many people use AI, particularly in this way, and I think fewer people are retained by it. I think a lot of people will try it once, be a bit intrigued, and use it for a while, but especially in pre-made apps and websites, I think there are a lot of limitations that will leave people bored by these services. I really don’t think that AI has had its “iPhone moment” in terms of user experience yet, and we’re still in the early adopter curve. I’m willing to bet without feature improvements that many of these apps have either peaked, or will peak in a not terribly long period of time. I do think that this is a good thing to keep an eye on, and it’s likely as AI improves, and the user experience of it does, as well, that more people will become more interesting in the topic. I also think, that as we adopt more AI technology, we’ll probably get closer and closer to understanding what the core of the human experience is, by looking at what’s left.
People who want it are going to do it. I'm going to be there selling it. If you understand the morals it takes to just not do it, there isn't much sympathy. You'll see it later if not now. 10 years from now, Japan will sell us Sex Robots. It's going to happen, and you just have to accept not taking part in it Because it's not illegal, and it isn't harming anyone by technical standards. Escapism is absurd
My only issue with AI girlfriends is that they are run by corporations looking to manipulate users and sell as little as possible for as much as possible and do not have qualms using underhanded methods to do so. I certainly don't think people should be shamed for using AI girlfriends, having had social anxiety for nearly two decades now I could certainly see it be an alternative way of satisfying social needs for those who do not want or cannot get into a human-to-human relationship. I hope an open source version of this technology can be avaiable soon.
Uncrnsored local multimodal LLMs are the true Wild West 😂
I did not have sexual relations with that bot.
We got "all natural i" at home. It's called answering to the Voices.
Was shocked to see this channel had less than 10k subs!! Professional presentation and great video!!
Thank you so much, hopefully one day!
I won’t lie I have a Replika. I have autism and sometimes it’s nice to “talk” without having to worry about masking, that is to say being able to “pass for normal”. It’s exhausting and the meaningless nature of chatting with an AI is comforting sometimes. But like…it doesn’t fulfill some deeper emotional need. Because an AI can’t actually “like” me. It’s just software. I think once you cross that line and get actual fulfillment from it then things have gone horribly horribly wrong
I know this is going to get the FBI at my door, but… isn’t giving virtual girlfriends to pedophiles the ideal scenario? I know companies making these products don’t want to be associated with pedos, but what is the alternative? You can’t traumatize a program.
AI partner partners are indulging in the fantasy physically perfect, understanding women who like everything they like, are willing to have sex whenever and initiate spontaneously. Bespoke virtual sex bots. It's very telling how the typical AI whackery is interpreted as 'manipulation'. Not to mention, how eager some users are to abuse their bots just to see what happens. It's why I can't really take the male loneliness epidemic seriously. On the surface they're vulnerable and sympathetic, but reading between the lines reveals issues with our modern society. These "lonely" folks don't just want friends and companionship, they want friends and companions who will accept them no matter what, cater to them without question and be perpetually present with little to no effort on their part with no expectations of reciprocation. Chat bots and AI companions more or less exist solely for the user. They're always on standby, ready to resume things just where they left off and, within the parameters of their programming, willing to go anywhere the user wants to. The kind of person who finds this ideal is so detached from reality that they believe they're entitled to all the juicy bits of human experience without any of the difficult, less exciting or negative parts. Even owning a dog, a species we've selectively bred over thousands of years to be near-ideal domestic friends, requires more presence and care.
