For tekapo it's pronounced tek-a-po, there's also tourist flights in tekapo that takes you all around tekapo, it's so gorgeous. In Christchurch I'd recommend going to check out the Red Zone, the names due to the rezoning of land after the quakes as too dangerous to rebuild on. It's surreal to see so much gorgeous parkland that used to be houses for miles, including where I was living when the quakes happened.
