Dan Goes Fishing
Великобритания
Добавлен 8 мар 2011
Hi, I'm Dan!
I landed my first fish when I was 3 years old and I haven't stopped fishing since. Now I'm 27 and fish for multiple species of fish. However, my heart belongs to the predators that swim in our canals, rivers and lakes.
Hope you enjoy these angling adventures!

How To Catch UK Canal ZANDER - Deadbaits
Awesome videos have been binging them just wish they were longer
Thank you! Honestly I wish I had the time to make them longer 😂
Awesome dude! What rod and reel set up are you using?
Cheers! This is just a 2.75lb carp rod and a 4000 size daiwa reel, not ideal stuff really id recommend something a bit lighter
Great watch dude! Just subbed 🤙🏻
Thanks mate! Appreciate it
What are the specs on the rod you're using? Nice fish and vid!
It's a 40 - 100g Abu Garcia rod, thanks mate!
@@DanGoesFishing Ah ok, and what would the length be?
I think it's 8ft👍
Single hook shad jigs are so underrated for pike! I like to use a floating shad with a jighead only just heavy enough to make it sink. Just speculation but I feel that the slow paddle down is what sells it for my local pike haha. (+smaller jighead gives you more weight to play with in the lure itself!)
It did a 4+ perch earlier in the year Dan ... Also if you don't want to drive so far then give Ryton country park a go . It's on the same book and there are good pike and perch in there . I've carp and tench fished it for years . Park on the main rd by the metal gates and go in through the footpath entrance . That saves paying the parks inflated cat park prices 😬😬😬🎣🌞tight lines kid
I heard that It did! I have tired for them but couldn't get past the small ones, thank you! I have fished it once and had a nice pike but I'll definitely give it another go! Appreciate it massively 🙌
Was this a reservoir Dan? Do you just tend to make casts moving round or do you have particular spots you target? I fish a reservoir local to me and as they are featureless I find it hard to know where the pike are going to be? Any tips? Cheers Ben
Hey mate yes it is! So I do move around a lot, this time of year on here I find they can be anywhere! I try to look for any signs of bait fish that always helps, but for the most part it is just a case of coving water. In the winter I'll try find the deepest holes I can. This reservoir does have a ledge about 10 foot out where I had the second fish. Id try using jigs if you're not already using them, they're so good for mapping out the water and feature finding 👍
This time of year, the ledges are the place to be like Dan said! Although I've still been getting bites as you'd expect under /next to fallen trees etc. If the water is so low that trees aren't reaching over at all, just cover as much ground as you can and target the upper middle of the water column. Also like Dan said, the easier to spot baitfish usually mean predator fish near by, all year round on any water :)
Thanks both, I had a trip to the reservoir this eveningonly had an hour or so before dark. Took the jigging rod (usually I use swim or jerk baits on a heavy setup and have had quite a few decent fish from there) Jigging the spots I usually fish tonight has taught me a lot about the depth of the reservoir and how much water depth wise I've been missing. Some of the spots are so deep that casting in areas that I thought quite shallow are actually very deep. This reservoir is supposedly 100ft deep in places 😮 keep the vids coming Dan 😊
great video and professional fishing Dan👍, Shouldn't zander be removed from the water by law in England? because zander is a non-native species and invasive to other fish, does this law apply throughout England?
Thank you! So yeah officially they shouldn't be returned, but it's a extremely long winded and complicated debate 😂 I don't know of any anglers now that don't return them, even when they get elcro fished they put the big ones back because it's destroys the ecosystem removing the top predator, it's all just a bit of a mess really!
Hi, what area are you on the canal?
Dan have a look on RUclips for Paul Scowen - Zander fishing with bait - if you haven't seen it already I think you will enjoy it 👍😉🎣🎣
Nice Zanders! 🔥 Great angling mate! 💪
Thank you mate!
do you think ill have any luck on the channal in oxford ? never caught one and really want to
Yeah I don't see why not! I've never fished it but if you have a quick Google see if there's Zander in there then you'll be able to catch them! As a starting point look for deep holes, dark areas, lock gates stuff like that 👍
@@DanGoesFishing okay thank you! is floating or bottom fishing better
No worries! If you're deadbaiting have them on the bottom
No need for the music , nice to see the release 😊
Thank you
First time seeing your channel, dropped you a sub. Great video. What camera are you using?
Thank you, appreciate it a lot! I use a gopro hero 12 and a sony zv-e10 👍
Wers the canal would love To catch a z brilliant video
This is the grand union canal in Warwick, there's Zander all the way along just have to find them, and thank you!
Mega Vlog Dan 😁🎣👌
Thank you! 🙌
Cracking video nice to see someone else who love our Zeds I’ve targeted them for over 2 decades and despite the corrupt and cruel electro fishing by John Ellis and his Nephew Ralf Thomas (CRT) they still exist you’ve just got to find the spot Well done some nice fish there and keep at it pal Thank you 👍🏼🎣🍻👊🏼
Thank you! I love them so much 😂 yeah it's such a shame but they'll never go anywhere though, even stretches that get hit every year they bounce back so quickly! Thanks for watching 🙌
@@DanGoesFishing all they do is cause a Zander explosion when they fry the canals also taking big carp and pike I’ve seen it happen at a cost of 80k a year Tight lines pal hope the next one is the magical 10lb they are out there 👍🏼🎣🐳
It's absolutely crazy stuff, I've heard all the stories 😞 hopefully 🤞tight lines!
Great catch! Good sizes for a canal too!
Thank you! I was happy
Terrified of muntjac 🤣🤣🤣
They were charging me!😂 Could of been lethal 🤣
I'm so happy to see they're still zeds in the UK! I can't believe that we ain't 'supposed' to release them. Anyways, great vid m8!
They're never going anywhere mate! 🙌 I've never killed one and I never will, thanks as always!
Great video and fish handling Dan. Foul hooking is just unavoidable when lure fishing.
Thank you! And I know it happens 😄
some lovely fish nice video , and its always fun to get something you are not looking for :) well played
Thank you! It was a lot of fun! 😅
Can’t be helped mate. Great care for the carp and a bloody good fish too!
I know 😅 thank you appreciate it!
Wow!... I walk my dog there most days.
It's an enjoyable water to fish! Can be hard but has good rewards
Great pike session! You did well to bring the carp in without any incident. I must admit I did laugh when you realised what had happened. I’ve had it too… it’s like ‘crap, I hope no carp angler wanders up now’ 😂Well played on getting it in and released.
Thank you! Aha I was thinking exactly the same! I don't know if it's an experience I'd want to have again 😂
Happens. Don't feel bad.
I know, thank you!
Why would people be upset ? I was expecting to see you catch a perch or something and a pike come up and hammer it great video and fishing 🎣
People can get weird about carp I find, but thank you!
No harm no foul these things happen good angling as always mate
Thank you! Appreciate it
I didn't think you was allowed to return zander to canals and rivers as its against Wildlife & Countryside Act (1981) and the Keeping & Introduction of Fish Regulations (2015) to do so.
i am not hating on you i am new to fishing and just wanted ask the question
Hey mate! Yeah no worries from what I know you're completely right you're not suppose to but most anglers including myself ignore it. There's a lot of misinformation on Zander but in the short they're way to integrated into our water ways to ever get rid of. If you remove them especially bigger ones it causes havoc with the ecom system and makes everything worse (because they predate on themselves and keep their own numbers down) so yeah in my opinion put them back and let the waterways find their own balance
Hello sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the right jighead weight?
Hey! no problem, there's no perfect answer to this, as a rough guide it depends how deep your fishing and how fast you need the bait to get the bottom. However, you then need to balance that out with the weight that the rod can cast and then the fish that you're after. As an example I was fishing for pike recently on a 6 foot deep later, 12cm shad and a 10g jig head (10-40g rod) also don't forget the weight of the shad itself. Id definitely try not to go to heavy though as I believe a slower sink gets more bites. Hope this helps!
some lovely Fish, I'm like you I could catch nice little Perch all day too Dan Great Video
Thank you! I'm glad you agree!
Nice fishing ❤
Thank you!
Brown, Rainbow, Chub, Perch - what a session!
Thank you! I was very happy!
Love your content mate keep up the good work 👍👌
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoy 👍
Great video, ive just joined a club that has zander in some of its waters. Im more of a lure fisherman myself but famcy trying some deadbaiting, what rods are you using? I don't want to use a 3lb TC carp rod for deabaiting and kill the fight.
Hey, thank you! Yeah I would definitely recommend a bit of deadbaiting! These are 2.75 carp rods here not ideal, if you have something around the 2lb mark that should be alot better!
10:22 nice fish!
Thank you!
Very nice video. The colours on that tiny fish were beautiful
Thank you! And I know it was stunning
That tiny fish is an adult male minnow, ready for spawning. One of the prettiest freshwater fish (IMO).
Oh wow thank you I didn't know that! Yeah I agree
River alne....? Looks like a strech ive fished baa water
Yes it is! Good spot
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I just found your channel and you really make me want to go catch some pike. Those are some really nice fish you caught there.
Thank you appreciate it! And you should definitely give it a go they're the best 🎣
Yes,new video 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you!
Some good fish there 🎣👍
Thank you! 👍
Another amazing video! I watched all of your videos in one day, they are great. I have another question - for fishing on the lake of approx 3m dept with Westin Shadteez 9cm, what is jighead weight you can recommend?
Thank you! Hugely appreciate this 🙌 I like a 7g, you might be better with 10g on 3m. I don't like it to fall to fast because you'll be amazed the amount of bites you get on the drop. 10g should be good provided it suits the rod you're using 👍
Good video. What color is your favorite and which size is better 9 or 12 cm?TNX
Thank you mate! I like yellow and black at the moment catches a lot for me 👍 9cm will catch you anything (pike, perch, zander), 12cm if I just want to catch pike.
Great video, keep it up.Is this 9cm?
Thank you! Yes this is 9cm
💕Wow💙💙💗💗💗💗💗💙💗💗
Nice video Dan. Lots of action and glad you managed to hook and bank one.
Thank you! Me too, all worth it in the end
Top angling again Dan 👏 inspired me to go slightly bigger on the lures for canal zeds. We'll see how it goes!
Thank you mate! Hope you catch a monster 🤞
Happy days! Nice video and catches. Itching to fish the local river for pike. Not long now.
Thank you appreciate it! And yeah same here got a list of places ready to visit!
