Not necessarily. Depends on the airline, the latest changes, how fully booked a flight may be.. Things are getting tighter and tighter all the time. Never take anything for granted, and check carefully before each flight. Make sure your critically urgent stuff--medications, ID, phone, are in a small bag that will remain on your person.

Be aware of changed airline rules. Never assume. Don’t get smart mouthed with security, they are there to do a job. Dress appropriately for the country you are visiting, what is okay for your country, may not be in theirs, do your research, cultures differ. Double check on whether visas are needed, whilst you can get them online, some may take 24hrs to process. Remember it’s not just about buying the ticket, having a passport and packing luggage, these days there are many other things to consider. Use a list & ✅

3-1-1 is not clear: TSA definitions of liquid, gel and foam are not found and disagree with any dictionary or chemistry text. Your advice to wear your bulkiest clothes contradicts with advice to wear simple clothing through the scanner. Ther is no place to change from one to another post-security. Do you realize your laptop battery is filled with a corrosive, flammable liquid? That is why you can't check it in the cargo bay. But it isn't counted in the 3-1-1 allowance. The safest place to transport your laptop is to remove the laptop battery and wrap it in heavy gauge plastic bag or box, then put the battery-less computer in the center of your carry-on bag. (at an additional fee because its "checked luggage"). And, taking a battery outside its case can cause delay because you can't show it is functional (and thus no an explosive) by turning it on. One rule says "take it out" while another rule says "keep it in". A direct contradiction and confusion it you supposedly "clear rules".

As long as one has an assigned seat ... be patient ... much easier to not rush and far more relaxing to just sit and wait till there isn’t a long line of pax when boarding & getting off the plane. I travel very light and store my shoulder bag or small backpack under the seat ... no need to hurry to get an overhead space.
