KTM 890 Luggage Accessories You Won't Believe Exist!
Great share!!! One of the best overland camper builds!! For sure 👍, I think you are the only one that I’ve seen went for detachable cabin… question!!! after 3 years of use would you do the same, or would you do a welded cabin instead?, please share any unexpected maintenance, findings, noises,…
Thanks, no issues so far.
NOCO battery has a detachable piece on the top front edge. Other youtubers dont know why. I guess now I know why :-D
Makes sense.
Ty very much!!
You’re welcome
Hey I ran out of Lucas 80/90 and put one quart of stp 80/90 see any problems that could happen
It probably won’t be an issue. Sometimes different brands have different additives that don’t mix well together.
I’m taking my panels off and putting Italian leather today thanks for the advice
Nice
Is this 4 or 6 cul? Mine is 4
6
@infosponge okay mine is 4 cylinder do you know the torque specs
@@jackomalley3687 should be 13 foot pounds
What’s the torque spec for the spark plugs?
13ft-lb though I prefer to just seat them hand tight.
Does it work with an Apple phone?
Yes, I use CarPlay
What thickness of steel are those frame tubes? Did you have any problems with the tube buckling when the screws are torqued to 95 ft-lbs?
Steel tubes are 3/16“ thickness. No issues.
How do you like it so far?
Love it. Really changes the feel of the interior.
PERFECT! thanks!
No problem
What was the torque spec of the mountings… or did you use one?
Body mounts are usually around 70 ft lbs.
I’m sitting here and watching this then realized it’s you Wayne! Getting ready to install one of these in my new rig, I have a 2024 Tundra with an Alu Cab mounted on back.
Nice, lmk if you need any help.
Great video! Thank you! 👍
No problem
Cali raised should be embarrassed. I just bought the premium and it didn't come with instructions or anything it didn't even come with a reference chart for the size of the bolts
Bummer
The internet is a thing. They have install guides on their site.
Not sure you should use a GL-5 fluid in the transfer case because there's a synchro in there. GL-5 is not good for synchros. Although I see many people do it. From my research, Ravenol 75w or Redline MT-LV would be correct options for the transfer case.
It’s not what’s recommended but I haven’t had any issues. Those are good options and are listed in the description.
@@infospongethere is no synchro in the automatic transfer case . Only in the manual
Are you able to change the color of the buttons, and at night when you turn on the headlights, does the screen dim as well?
The buttons do change color. There are 20 brightness levels as well as day and night modes.
@@infosponge does the unit dim when you turn on the headlights at night? Thank you for the quick reply!
How much does it weigh as is in the video? Trying to estimate payload when it’s done.
The base frame weights about 300 lbs. The finished trailer is about 1600 lbs.
looks laggy
I haven't had any issues with responsiveness.
U can buy 1 bag and get the quarts cheaper
Go for it!
Thanks for the excellent video. I bumped into a rock, and the cheap plastic bumper was damaged. Ironically, I did the same thing in my 94 Tacoma, and the rock chipped. Your instructions were excellent and helped a lot to repair. Pretty easy except the pad was a little harder getting the clips to loosen, but with persitance they came loose. In the end, every thing fit back in place. Thanks for the help. Oh, by the way, I moved the rock.
Glad it helped!
So you can use 75w-85 or 90 on transfer case!
It is not what Toyota recommends, but I have had no issues and have seen no reports of any.
Lol!! I am at the 3rd version of my square drop camper design using sketchup, you made me go for a 4th. Loved your fenders design. Any experience share after using the frame bolted to the trailer instead of welding? Did you use a specific torque?
Nice, good luck with the design! No issues with the soft mounting so far, I don't recall using a specific torque.
So theres no need for a 2ndary button to install like R4Ts kit? It automatically works directly off of the steering wheel control's?
Correct
'Sup W! Looking good! Hey, ever notice how sometimes the cruise control on your 890 just turns off? I had noticed it sometimes in the 3 years I've had mine, but it wasn't until the other day when I had it out that I figured out for sure what was happening and was able to consistently repeat it. I don't know if this was intentional or accidental on KTM's part (safety thing?), but, if you have the cruise on, and open the throttle to pass someone, and instead of just opening your fist and letting the throttle close on it's own, you roll it closed and accidently go just a little past closed, it will turn the cruise off, every time for me. Sometimes when I take my hand off the grip to stretch, if I'm not careful grabbing it again and accidently roll it a little past closed, it will turn off. So, be aware, that if yours is like mine, it will shut off the cruise if you're not careful. My BMW doesn't do this so that's why it took a while to figure it out, I thought it was just another KTM glitch. Try it out and see if this doesn't do the same thing on yours. Oh, and did you flip the mount on the bottom of your tankbag around so the opening is towards you? Ride safe! F
Interesting, never noticed that.
@@infosponge Yeah, it was annoying whenever it would happen, then the one time it happened, I noticed what seemed to cause it, so I tested it, and I can repeat it every time. The BMW does NOT do it. Mine's a 2021 ADV R, what year is yours? You got the tech pack with cruise, right?
are the front and rear diff both using crush (expandable) washers? or are they the flat washers like the main engine oil drain bolts?
Front Diff: fill plug crush washer, drain plug copper washer. Rear Diff: both use crush washes.
-51°F??
Yah, that native weather app is weird.
I believe the transfer case has a recommended oil toyota has
It does, please refer to the video description.
How well does ir do in cold weather?
I haven’t noticed a difference.
THANK YOU
no problem
Do I have to remove my after market skid plate to do the front Diff?
Most likely.
Dónde puedo comprar ese kit completo Para mi Tacoma 2017 Espero su respuesta gracias
These are the components I purchased: thetacogarage.com/products/camera-controller-for-entune-3-tacoma-2020-pre-order amzn.to/3YQNJRZ
Still relevant and helpful thanks for posting
Happy to help
I'd seen one of those two products before, but not the other, thanks. Certainly would be much better.
Still working well!
I like it, but the exhaust pipe should never outlet under your trailer. The exhaust end pipe has to be located to the side to avoid potential carbon monoxide build up that could potentially creep up into your cabin. Please drill a hole or route it past your I beam.
Thanks, I do route the tip under the frame. Also, there is no way for it to build up because there is a gap between the frame and the cabin.
@@infosponge Looks mighty dark under there for there to be much of a gap between the frame and the cabin. I have installed three of these units in the past, and have never before seen anyone not route their exhaust pipe out the side of their camper or equipment. If I am not mistaken, it clearly explains this in the owners manual. I find it hard to believe that you defend such an unsafe set up of an exhaust pipe that emits deadly carbon monoxide gasses.
Where did you get the vent rings. Or did i come w it
cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/aucar-tacoma-vent-rings
I’ve had mine for a few years and it recently started flickering and going black on the front camera. I replaced the front camera and it still does it. It’s unreliable
Could be the wiring, or it could be a bad module. Did you contact the manufacturer?
Mine just started doing that ..did you find a solution
@@amit666715 no I didn’t find a solution. I feel like it’s an issue with the camera lens overheating. It only happens to me after leaving the camera continuously on for a while. I’ve been wanting to test this theory out using a different brand of camera but haven’t purchased one yet. Does yours flicker after being on for a while?
@@infosponge the module is really old at this point so I imagine I’m on my own
Is there anywhere I could buy something like this? I don't have the tools to cut or drill what's needed, but would gladly pay for one!! I want to be able to swap between my lock n roll and a standard ball coupler for some vehicles that have an integrated ball hitch that can't be changed.
You could order the parts cut to length and find a friend with a drill.
How much is it
~$1k
isnt the oil 75-85 not 75-90
Technically, 85 is the spec. However, there is very little difference between the two. The 90 is generally cheaper and more readily available.
@@infosponge mine is non limite slip will it hurt?
Thanks for that
No problem
How much does the camper weigh?
About 1600lbs, the 3500s are overkill.
With those bags though you can use their own straps right through the ones on the side of the rack. That's what I was doing on a bike. Unhook them on the sides, loosen the straps a bit and run them through the rack.
That should work. Not quick to detach I would think.
@@infosponge not much different to using the created loops. But it'll depend on the bag and rack size as to how it fits.
I would think you'll need to run the cross bar to connect your timbrens together or you are going to twist your frame rails, even with gussets. There is nothing stopping the twist action. That is a lot of weight and it creates a lot of leverage . Your frame rails were flexing just hitting the bolts with the hammer. Add the 2x2 cross bar to connect the timbrens. That is exactly what it is for. Just some friendly advise. Especially off road, the load is magnified from the constant jouncing.
Yep, good call, did that in a different video.
What is the point of Overlanding combines selling equipment with poor instructions?
Beats me!
The CaliRaised youtube page have a detailed video.
They have the worst lack of instructions or parts list ever!!! I bought the premium rack and I will definitely be making sure moving forward there are better instructions before I buy from anybody 😖
Thank you so much! I only needed to remove my damaged one for now but tog made it real easy for me.
No problem
Ay bro i changed everything cuz why not but now it idles up and down whenti turn it on
Strange, it could be a bad gap or cracked plug. If you check the codes, it might tell you which cylinder.
Haha this same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. Worst weekend ever trying to figure out what I did wrong. Turns out by the 6th cylinder on the drivers side (the one covered by that foam piece thing) I had accidentally unplugged the PCV valve and messed up the hose and it was causing my engine to misfire on all cylinders.
Thank you.
You’re welcome
