🇬🇹 #12 Guatemala - Charming Island Town of Flores and the Legendary Mayan Site of Tikal
We reached our first city in Guatemala after a 2.5 hour bus journey, cost us a $20 exit fee from Belize and had a relaxed, if not so well signposted, border control. Our first impression - wow, the people are very welcoming and smile at you in a friendly manner. 🇬🇹
Flores is an island town in Lake Petén-Itza. The colourful town is connected to the mainland by a causeway and offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding landscape.
The town itself offers a charming atmosphere with cobbled streets, colourful colonial buildings, a variety of restaurants and cafés and a lively culture. 🍹
Flores is also the perfect starting point for exploring the region's ancient Mayan sites, in part...

🇧🇿 #9 Belize - San Ignacio: Around fire, heat and ancient Mayan sites
Просмотров 105Месяц назад
In San Ignacio, we witnessed several fires on the edge of the road and in the surrounding area. At the end of May (2024), people here are eagerly awaiting rain and a cooler climate, which should have already arrived. There are various Mayan ruins in the area around San Ignasio. We visited Cahal Pech and Xunantunich. The name Cahal Pech means "place of ticks" in the Yukatek Maya language. The rui...

🇲🇽 #7 MX: Bacalar - la laguna de los 7 colores
Просмотров 444Месяц назад
Bacalar, also known as the "lagoon of seven colors", is a little paradise and a semi-insider tip ;) We visited various cenotes (Negro, Esmeralda and Cocalitos), which can be reached via the lagoon, swam in the crystal-clear waters of the Pirate Channel and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the Isla de los Pájaros, where we were able to observe various indigenous bird species and migratory birds. ...
🇲🇽 #6 MX: La vida loca en Ciudad de México

Our stay in CDMX (Ciudad de México) began with a bike tour 🚲 on the Paseo de la Reforma on Sunday morning. This famous street is closed to car traffic on Sundays, so we had the opportunity to cycle through the city and experience the city's impressive architecture and atmosphere. During our week in CDMX, we attended a 🙇🙇‍♀️ language school in the mornings to practise our Spanish. The lessons di...
🇲🇽 #5 MX: Discoveries in Oaxaca and Puebla, Mexico's Cultural Southern Region
Просмотров 692 месяца назад
Oaxaca is a culturally rich region in Mexico. We saw El Tule, one of the oldest and thickest trees in the world. It is about 2000 years old. The archaeological site of Mitla bears witness to pre-Columbian civilizations. Another highlight is Hierve el Agua, a natural limestone formation that looks like frozen waterfalls. Oaxaca is also known for the production of mezcal, a traditional distillate...

San Cristóbal de las Casas, a city in the heart of Chiapas, impressed us with its colonial architecture, colourful culture and breathtaking landscape including the Cañón del Sumidero. We then continued on a 13-hour bus journey to the surfing town of Puerto Escondido, where we saw the breathtaking coastline and were privileged to assist with a turtle release.
🇲🇽 #3 MX: From Campeche's colonial splendour to Palenque's jungle temples
Просмотров 502 месяца назад
Campeche is a colourful colonial town in the west of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but seemed a little deserted to us. The locals and the hustle and bustle tended to be in the neighbourhoods outside the city walls. The ruins of Palenque are majestically nestled in Mexico's tropical rainforest and bear witness to the former splendour of the Mayan metro...

CDMX es la ciudad más impresionante de toda América, tiene absolutamente de todo. Incluso en ella converge la cultura prehispánica, el México virreinal y el México moderno.
