Nuns make Fish Cookies – Be Flexible – Bridge of Fevers VIDEO 10 #CaminoDeSantiago #CaminoPortuguese
Portuguese Camino Video 10 - Tui to O Porriño
We had a great day of walking even with rain and sun rain and sun. So many interesting things to see like the convent in Tui where the nuns sell fish cookies made with donated eggs. The history of places like the “Bridge of Fevers” is so interesting to me so I love to read the books and guides before entering such places - it makes the journey so rich! I checked my records when I returned to the USA and we were charged for the original room at Pension La Corredera but they had overbooked a group and were VERY apologetic to us and walked us to Hotel Colon and paid for the room there and for a BIG breakfast. The new room with breakfast was worth ...

      Thank you for commenting, because every time someone comments or gives a thumbs up or subscribes it helps the RUclips algorithm send the video out to more people. Right now I am working on the French route because we leave in two weeks to walk that route. We are really excited about it and I am planning to make some videos that are unique concerning that route. As the Portuguese Camino unfolded I think some of my videos might have gotten more interesting compared to the first ones, so it gave me some ideas about the French route and how to make some of those videos interesting. Hopefully. Ha ha Again, thank you so much!

    • @lualiens
      @lualiens 2 месяца назад

      If I had ONE route to choose - it would certainly be to hug the water going out of Porto and maybe even stay on the coast until Spain. We did the French way two years ago and then when we walked the central route from Porto to Spain we really did not like it at all. In the videos you noticed that we also walked the coastal combined with the Senda Litoral and LOVED THAT!!! And it might be because we like the ocean more but we also loved the French way which had no ocean until the very end after Santiago. We are also from a landlocked state so that might be why we enjoy the ocean but we really loved that route. We return in September to walk the French way in the fall. Last time we did it in the spring and I’m very excited about this You said, “only two weeks of vacation per year“, and that’s the way it was with us for so many years until we retired and the first thing we did upon retirement is walk the French route. On the French Camino someone asked how long it was going to take us to walk it and I told him, “I don’t know“ and he responded with, “oh, you are time rich then“. I love that phrase. Because we finally had the time to walk that route and it was so phenomenal. Someday you will as well!

I certainly will have to study the are closer for the future. Thank you for the input.

      @@lualiens, pues solo hace falta tener los sentidos despiertos, para darse cuenta que al llegar al Cebreiro (Camino francés) aparece un paisaje, una geografía y una cultura distinta (tradiciones, antropología, idioma, costumbres) a lo que se vende al extranjero por parte de España. Ni mejor, ni peor, sino algo distinto. Es de justicia, pues, que este pequeño país, Comunidad Autónoma de España, sea conocido y rescatado del olvido. Galicia es muy entrañable. Gracias.

    OMG ..Love the overview .. and I can't believe you were in Porto and ate poison at McDonalds .. was this because it was familiar to your diet, your body, your culture or was just fancy? What was Portugeese or traditional or just horribly familiar about the food? Were you using a drone and have any suggestions about how to film a walk on the Camino?

    • @lualiens
      @lualiens 2 месяца назад

      Welllll…. My wife wasn’t a fan of trying McDonald’s but the restroom is free if you buy something there. Haha. There are some Portuguese foods I discovered and searched for on some menus like FRANCESINHA - which had lots of protein. It’s easier to try Portuguese dishes when we were out of Porto because it was difficult to know where to go in such a big city. We have a small drone that fit in my Fanny pack and was light enough to be legal to fly in Spain. I’m really glad I brought it. Hope you enjoy the videos!!!

    Curious which guide book you used to pick up all the great facts about the different churches you’ve passed along the way?

    • @lualiens
      @lualiens 3 месяца назад

      Well…. I love to study the location to make sure I don’t miss anything!!! Haha Even with that being said, the video I posted a few hours ago talks about Padron and once you get your credential stamp at the church you can go to this Algate that is to the left of the monastery and they will get you a certificate to prove that you were at the same place that James body was brought and the place where he first started preaching on the Iberian peninsula. But I did not have any video to show that. So I used multiple sources… the Brierely book I read and re-read and after I left an area that I would not return to I tore the page out and threw away to lighten my load. I also had a book on my phone titled “The Camino Portugues: From Lisbon and Porto to Santiago - Central, Coastal and Spiritual Caminos” by Kat Davis. The Wise Pilgrim app a separate Portuguese Camino and has a lot of information as you’re entering each location as well. I also talk to the locals as much as I can. Even for one video I posted yesterday I had contacted the tourism department of Padron to make sure my facts were correct. (And they responded quickly). If there was any signage or explanation of the church outside of it I would use Google translate to read that as well.

    How was your experience with BlahBlah car? From what I understand you book via an App with a local driver heading in the direction you want to go & you help pay for gas. Is that correct?

    • @lualiens
      @lualiens 3 месяца назад

      As you may have noticed - we went from santiago to Porto twice. So the first time with blah blah car there were no major problems. His drop off place was the McDonald’s in Porto even though I hoped he would drop us off at the cathedral - so we walked over a mile to get to our hotel by the cathedral. The fee they request in the bla bla app is all you pay. We paid 24.15 for two people and he already had another rider in the front seat that was headed all the way to Lisbon. The reason that he wanted to drop us off at McDonald’s is because he was picking two other people up in Porto that had a destination of Lisbon. The driver said that he likes being part of the service because it gives him someone to talk to and the drive goes by faster and our money that we pay help him with the gas. The weakness with the service is that they have maybe one or two people that will be driving through Santiago every day or every two or three days and they will state where the pick up location is so if you want them to pick you up a little closer to another area you will need to talk about that before you book the car. For the second trip we used the bus and paid an extra nine euros a piece to sit in the front seat (it was my birthday, ha ha). If you have any questions feel free to ask.
