Guys, all these positive comments here are probably because you don’t understand French . When the audience was clapping with admiration this woman starts to yell in French to the French audience “You shut up ! You shut up!” I was shocked , what an incredibly rude behaviour. I would never invite her ever again . Merci Cate , tais-toi et adieu!

Amazing acting, but as usual I am a bit disappointed that translators feel the need to remove some subtleties from the original dialogue, like between the Judge and Hedda here, where several lines have been omitted and changed. A lot of the impact of Ibsen is in the complexities of the subtext slowly sinking in, and in order to achieve this, Ibsen wrote with so few superfluous word choices that removing or changing the text also removes or changes some of the subtext. I can see why Ibsen is one of the reasons people learn Norwegian as you inevitably will miss some aspects of his writing in a translation, but even more so when translators seem to not always realise the reason why the text is the way it is and think they can streamline it in some fashion.
