i am currently using a custom layout that i made from bigram frequency charts, a .5U top row stagger, and no automation, aiming to minimize SFB the layout goes as follows, starting from where the ~ key is on qwerty: tab f w p y c / v g u ' ; del s a e n l , h t i o - lctrl z q j m . b r d k x rctrl alt win e b p l s n t the ebplsnt on the bottom row are Esc, Backspace, Space, layer keys (MO3 [macro layer] where B is on qwerty, and MO1 [number/symbol/navigation layer] where the space bar was on qwerty, with the keycap swapped out for a 2U one), Shift, Enter, and Tab (again), (truncated to one letter each for the sake of the diagram). intended to be used with your thumbs. the index fingers are intended to rest on n and h. i would not recommend this layout if you aren't using a .5U top row stagger, as the w, p and y keys are meant to be pressed with whichever finger isn't being used for the surrounding letters (so in words like "pet" you would use your ring finger for P but in words like "part" you would use your middle finger for P) the bigrams that get the short end of the stick with this layout include but may not be limited to: nc, lc ku, rv, ki, je, mn, br (though this one can be mitigated if you use the middle finger for R), lm, cl, ox, ik, ej, and hr. (with the last six being mitigated by sliding your finger between the keys) and if used on an ortholinear keyboard (which i already said i don't recommend), then ny, ep, aw, and o' get added to that list.

This is mostly so for computers. On phones today typing is only done with one or two fingers. And I find it weird I don't see many mention this - ambiguity. How many decades have passed since the use of dictionaries for disambiguation was implemented on T9 keyboards? May I of course be wrong and they just aren't popular yet, but I don't know of any layouts that uses this same data of word combination frequencies to set apart letters with similar most probable preceding ones.

my other personal typing tip: Take some times to practice only on punctuations and REALLY hard words. It makes you familiar with hard words, digits, and not just easy ones. By being familiar with all digits, words, your typing does not improve , but ACTUALLY improving in OVERALL, not just for easy word tests

Where is the search bar?

monkeytype is my go to example for a useful website with great design and UX. didn't know about the filter thing, that's awesome! i like using the 'copy missed words' after tests and just spam the missed words into a text editor, it's nicer than the monkeytype practice tool i find.

How do you show your WPM while typing?

I thought that this was cool and all, but this got me a new pb. You are the goat.

Ihe full immersion method is quite good, if and only if you are learning dvorak or have a via-supported keyboard. I used this method to learn workman and it was infuriating when you are using work/school computers or other people's computers and not being able to type at a reasonable pace. I would recommend learning your new layout, and using the old layout once a day to check if you can still type in it, and if not, practice a bit. But still primarily use your target layout though.

Then there are wacky layouts which are specifically suboptimal like cyrillic mapped to qwerty phonetically or latin mapped to cyrillic jcuken phonetically.

This might be extrapolation of information, but the most commonly missed SFBS’s seems to be weighted for the left hand. Is that just showing that more people are right handed them left handed/ambidextrous?
