OA 2311 Compact extended magwell - WATCH THIS BEFORE INSTALL!!
Просмотров 1263 месяца назад
In this video I touch on an issue I ran into installing the full size magwell on my OA 2311 compact, and how to overcome it!!
I've got about 800 rounds through mine. Flawless. So smooth and very light recoil. Everyone who shoots it enjoys the experience.
completely agree man, it might be my softest shooter. definitely among the flattest as well and the ergonomics just make it feel amazing in my hands. ive been running it in uspsa matches and with the 400 i put through it this morning at the range im right around 1k rounds and thouroughly impressed
Buttery smooth 👌🏼
yeah idk how many times i said that but probably too many lol
That thing looks great! How thick is the grip compared to other 2011/1911DS?
its very comparable to others like the prodigy or MAC 9. very comfortable for me. not sure how someone with smaller hands would like it.
Looks hella good I need to grab some more 2011s
relatively inexpensive too. if you dont get the polished steel slide that saves you 350 right there. gun looks great when they do it up all black with their rose gold barrel and slide cuts
Ordered in March. Picked up today. I carry a Staccato CS daily and the platypus is pretty darn close in quality. I got the bull barrel and fit is perfect.
@@OldmanSnake I've got a couple staccatos and a few other 2011s and I'd say the platypus is every bit as good as any of them and I might even day it's better. Been running it in uspsa matches and continue to be impressed even without the bull barrel!
The way you were running it in the beginning of the video I would have thought it was your number one non ported/comp gun
Good luck on your matches John!
@@brookedavis8376 thank you!
Shit bro that gun is sexxxxxy
@@revvaddictz agreed! She's a performer too!!
100% agree with the colors. Seeing what colors people choose for their platypus tells you their IQ.
@@bananawatch8158 lol definitely says something about their personality at the very least!!
Received mine in April of last year. It's a great gun out of the bag. No hiccups at all
@@JoeCoolakaDDD man I've been running it in competition since this review ans Holy shit am I impressed. It's my favorite gun right now
Very practical and useful advice. Just subscribed.
well thank you very much!!
Yessir great review fasho. Platypus definitely one of my gun goals. Can’t wait to pick up my first 1911/2011 🥶🥶🫡🫡🤙🤙
much appreciated!! ive run the platypus a ton since i made this video even in a couple uspsa matches and as of now its my favorite gun. i like it better than either of my staccatos which is saying alot
I appreciate the vertical format of your video. It has a nice 2008 vibe.
thank you!! works out great for the 90% or viewers watching on their phones. but for the pc fuds not so much
I looked at a Platypus a couple of months ago at the range, I didn't care for the trigger not a good reset and no overtravel adjustment that I could see. If you can find a Bul Armory SAS tac 5 it has one of the best triggers in that price range which is much better than a Staccato P. And the slide is smoother.
yeah that one you looked at might have had the duty trigger (4 - 4.5lbs). mine has the 3lb trigger and its as good as any of my others. i put it right up there with my hayes customs or my OA 2311. all have almost no take up, immediate wall, crisp break and immediate crisp reset. i had a bull tac sas ll lined up to trade for and guy backed out. one day ill get a bul for sure though.
Brooo you the next John wick or what? 🔥
well my name is Jon... you might be onto something !!
Nice build John I like the stippling on it looks comfy! The camo finish is nice too! What optic you runnin on it?
thank you!! thats a lead n steel promethean LP-1 with a primary arms slx micro 3x magnifier behind it
@@TargetacquiredtvNice!
Ordered mine in March should be done soon cant wait. Totally agree about the colors, it’s crazy that people actually get wild colors on their guns. Thanks for the info
yeah ive got friends that do crazy colors on all their guns. and i get it, you want to make it special and unique to you, its just not for me. now i have had a couple guns cerakoted in camo patterns myself. neutral and darker colors i dont mind and in some cases i think look really good. i even know of a guy that got his platypus done in like a plum purple and black and it looks pretty cool honestly.
I’m on week 10 of a 18 week lead time. Should have it by September….. I can’t wait. Great video Bro…. What holster are you running? Thanks for sharing. Just sub’d.
im running a Blackhawk Omnivore (lightbearing) made to fit around 150 guns as long as they have a tlr1 or a light thats close to same dimensions. so far its worked with all my 2011s. for iwb i run a tier 1 msp thats also made to fit most guns as long as they have a tlr1 mounted on them and that fits all my guns as well!!
@@Targetacquiredtv nice. That’s the exact light that I got for it. Does it take the QLS system? I have the fork laying around so I was gonna FFL with that set up
@@Citizen2ACitizenLLC i believe the blackhawk would work with it, i run mine on a boss hanger. its got various hole patterns on the back for the different style belt clips it comes with or to run something else like i am. very inexpensive too!
@@Targetacquiredtv got it. Thanks Bro
How would you rank the MAC 9 DS with the prodigy and the platypus?
i rank it with the prodigy in overall value for sure. prodigy still has much better grip texture and a better trigger. slide action is also smoother on prodigy. but the prodigy uses MIM parts which are known to be less reliable, where the mac does not. so for a few hundred dollars less id say the trade off is fair. but the platypus is levels above both of them. the platypus could be sold as a 2500 dollar gun easily.
@@Targetacquiredtv I really have my eyes on the new bul armory edc pro. I was trying to get the old sas II tac. But since the new 2024 line is coming out. The pro model has ports.
@@lmSteveo yeah im actually working on getting a tac sas ll right now! Bul Armory makes some dope 2011s. Id absoutely love to own the pro with the ports or even the pro comp they just debuted at guncon thats ported and comped!!
@@Targetacquiredtv are you trying to get the 2023 model or the 2024 model? Ha, they make it confusing when they have the sas ii tac names. The 2024 tac pro 4.24 and 5 inch was sitting for a while. Took about 3-5 hrs to completely sell out of the pro model.
@@lmSteveo 2023 just because im trading for it so dont have to come out of pocket at all. id obviously rather have newer but just bought the platypus and two more SROs this week
pretty impressive, considering the aluminum frame.. and still a little less rise.. and i couldn't agree more on the SRO looking the best.. and the ice comp looks goofy
agreed!!
Most who have to odd optic cuts for them due to them being available quick. Sane for the colors. Stealth has these available quick usually
that definitely makes sense!! the guy i spoke to with the rmrcc optic cut just said its good for keeping the slide profile slim. personally id rather wait for a gun i actually like the look of and can actually use the optic i want to on.
@@Targetacquiredtv I have a bull barrel 5” on order with their new grip grip texture. RMR cut. I have worked on a few of these that were bushing barrel. Wasn’t super impressed with them to be honest. The cerakote isn’t great and doesn’t hold up all that well. Mine will be ported (I cut my own ports) then DLC coated.
@@PnP-td1mt to be honest, thats the one complaint ive seen and heard on multiple occasions, is the finish wears off too easily. but for what youre getting and the price id say thats a minor inconvenience. i like everthing youre doing with yours though, that should end up being an amazing gun
Hey man I really like your videos! Question for you since you would know. As someone who is gonna enter the 2011 game what would you choose… prodigy… Apollo 11… mac 9…. KDS9C…. OA2311…. If you could only have one. And maybe your 2nd pick too pleeeease! Great content!
thank you! so i own all of those except the apollo 11 and ill tell you why. everyone i know that got an apollo had malfunctions straight outta the box and had to dump a bunch of money into to get it to be a decent gun. as far as the rest, you really cant go wrong with any of them. the 2311 is my favorite gun overall to run hands down. thats my gun i run in uspsa matches. it feels the best in the hands and i get the best grip on it thanks to the stippled thumb ledges. trigger is amazing as well. the kds9c is my daily carry beause its the first 2011 ive found thats easily comfortably concealed. the fluted barrel also stops it from getting too hot so i can stick it back down my pants without worrying after dumping a few mags. and then as far as the prodigy and mac 9 you really cant go wrong with either. both great entry level 2011s. prodigy has the better grip and trigger. mac 9 has better quality internals. all depends on how much you want to spend at that point since the mac 9 is a few hundred less. happy to answer any other questions you may have, any time!
@@Targetacquiredtv thanks for the quick reply! That’s good info right there thank you! I’ve always been a striker fire kinda guy which I still love em’ of course but I’m ready to finally try a 2011. Your videos are great content for someone like myself looking to get into them. I appreciate the time you spend breaking it all down. Keep it up and I look forward to more videos!
Great video, brother. I believe you can contact SA to see if they can do a re-fit for a bull barrel. SA just finished my build today. Hopefully I will have in my hands by next week depending on ship time. I ordered on March 21st when the wait times were 14-17 weeks. Took 1 day shy of 15 weeks to get ready to ship. I even ordered with an extra barrel, threaded, so I can suppress it. Likely took a few extra days to fit the barrel. To give idea of the price, it’s 5”, 2 colors total, prickle grip, raw bull barrel, funnel, ambi-safety, full rail, competition 2.5-3lb flat face trigger, RMR cut, NO IRONS so it has a totally clean top & a custom serial number. $2000 exactly + $380 for the extra black nitrite threaded barrel. Going to V8 port and copper PVD matte/flat finish the crowned raw barrel. Will post shipping wait time for those interested.
thank you! And wow, that sounds dope as hell!! that copper pvd looks so good with black
i got one and i dont have any glock mags either. i liked the price point for what you're getting and the mags work for the dirt cheap price
for sure its a great value for what youre getting. slides super smooth, its feature rich, triggers great, no MIM parts and that direct mount optic cut is everything... and the cheap mags help too lol
Well it’s not a guns fault actually it’s a prodigy mags fault.
for sure. i just prefer to run extended mags in all my guns rather than flush fit, and i have a handful of prodigy 20 rounders i use with it now that i took the magwell off.
@@Targetacquiredtv i understand you but what i'm saying is this is ot the guns problem, prodigy should make their mags universal so you can use them all in 2011's right?
@@avigares yea i never said it was the guns problem, i said its one of two things i dislike about it. take it for what it is, an opinion. im not sure springfield would care to make their mags universal with all 2011s. i mean they are for the most part already. they work fine with my staccatos magwell.
Great review dude, you just sold me one
How many upgrades did you do?
only things ive done to the MAC 9 is take magwell off and change slide stop.
The options on their website are delta point pro, hs407k, Acro, Rmrcc, SRO/RMR. I'm new to the optic game. You said don't go with a cut that supports just one optic. Do any of those cuts support multiple optics??
Yes ebery one of those cuts supports multiple optics other than the rmrcc. That's the only possible cut where you only have one option. Sro/rmr and ddp are most popular and have the most options. 407k is for smaller optics also known as the rmsc footprint
@@Targetacquiredtv thanks bro!
@@Cajunboi023 any time!!
Nice Plat. I have the 4.25". What holster are you running with? I have the Holosun P.ID.
I run the Blackhawk omnivore for owb and tier 1 msp for iwb. Both light bearing made for TLR1
10-4, thank you
Can the qls be attached or does it have to be blackhawk system?
@@bluenotz I would think you could, I'm running mine on a boss hanger. It has multiple screw holes

Good review man, your killing me with these guns though. I’m gonna be broke trying to keep up with you.
dont try to keep up unless you wanna be broke every week worrying if youll make it to next pay day lol but hey at least youll have some cool guns... i got a problem man
I still like it but I think I'll still go cs or c I like a 3 piece system good work brotha

Yea man the optic cut slides a game changer!! My custom sig p320 Norsso edition has a rmr/507c cut and man my dot is so low its basically cowitnessing my front sight lol and pin point accurate

I'm saying bro.. every manufacturer needs to jump on board with this

The Trijicon RMRcc is a useless optic. Sick gun.
my thoughts exactly. cant understand how someone could choose that as their direct mount optic cut lol
Just recently started watching your video! Man, geez! I’m itching for a 2011 now lol haha bad
To me, no other platform compares. they truly are elite hand guns. but it can be a slippery slope for sure if youre impulsive, and obsessive with little self control like me lol. but if you get yourself that MAC 9 i think youll fall in love with it. and later on down the road if you want to spend money on a more high dollar 2011 you wont be dissapointed with that either. stay tuned ive got another review/comparison of another 2011 coming soon

@@antoniobustamante548 any time man! thanks for tuning in and enjoying the content!!
What a beast! Gun is nice too 😉. Comp is doing some work!
hahaha appreciate ya brother. gun and comp definitely pair nicely
Was it just me, or did the slide fail to lock on an empty mag several times?
that is correct. i was running staccato mags. theyre not made to cause slide lock
I don't get calling a $1000 gun " budget". Nice piece from what I'm seeing but considering one can find a good weapon for $300 (Stoeger STR 9) or a 1911 Tisas Nightstalker, $331.I don't think a grand is in the budget category.
its referred to as a budget 2011 because 1k is about as cheap as youll find a quality 2011. the nightstalker 2011 (double stack 1911) costs aroud 950 and the other tisas double stack 1911s cost about 800 msrp. so sure you can obvioulsy find guns cheaper. but we're talking about 2011s specifically here. hence the title of the video. before springfield released the prodigy i think 2 years ago now, 2011s started at around 2500
Definitely budget friendly! For the quality! 2011 Sheshh! Fast 💨 with it!🔥 thanks for the review! And I’m over here thinking about getting a staccato 😅 I think this one will do!
@@antoniobustamante548 staccatos are definitely worth every penny, but so is the MAC 9 and for the money, its hard to beat!

thanks brother, im loving it!
Great video! I carry the C2 Limited with Ice Comp and 2 1/2 lb trigger. I prefer a larger carry gun. I love your Staccato P. Where did you have it finished?
thank you! i prefer to carry a smaller full size over a compact as well. my carry is the kimber kds9c because its a smaller 2011 with capacity of 18 plus 1 and its easy to comfortably conceal. and i love this c2 as well. the only thing ive done to it is add the compensator!
