How To Connect an Audio Mixer to a Powered Speaker
Просмотров 139 тыс.2 года назад
This video shows you the basic setup procedure for using an audio mixer and a powered speaker together.
I have 2 jbl xrk 100’s, and I’m trying to figure out why they won’t work 😭 I have a 32 input system so it’s a bunch to deal with.
Thanks for the video!!! Your videos have helped me understand signal flow SO MUCH BETTER. Fresh out of college and been working as an AV Tech for large HBCU and was possibly thinking about starting a small AV events/integration company. Was wondering what you would charge in your neck of the woods for an event like that? Also wondering if it would be possible to utilize obs studio to minimize the usage of so many laptops.?
Thank you for your comment. To your point, there are several different ways to set this up to get a similar result. We have found it a bit more reliable to keep the majority of the switching separate from the "production laptop" in order to minimize the load on the computer processor. But, you can absolutely use OBS. As far as pricing, there are so many factors to consider that it would be hard to give an accurate estimate without the specific details. Feel free to email us for a consultation.
You don’t have a subwoofer?
Thank you for your comment. For this particular example, we didn't use a subwoofer.
Shouldn't the power be off while connecting cables? Then power the mixer, then the speaker?
I know this video is a year old, so I'm hoping you've simplified your setup by switching to an ATEM mini Extreme, and getting rid of those 3.5mm to XLR boxes. Since HDMI carries audio, use the HDMI feeds to bring your audio from each laptop into the ATEM.
Love these walkthroughs! Would love to see more situations
Hey, how are you driving your PP to the next slide? I assume you are using a clicker, since your laptop is away from you? Couldn't one just use the laptop facing them and get rid of the monitor facing you? Essentially only using 2 displays?
I think that the input in Active Speaker should be switched to "Line " if not wrong. In JBL Eon 710 active Speaker I couldn't find the button of Line/Mic? Are there any other settings in that Speaker? Please reply...
Thank you for your comment. I could be wrong, but I believe there is a small white tab on the back of the 710 that can be pushed in or out using a pen or some other small pointed object. This should allow you to toggle between mic and line level.
Thanks a lot... I was looking for this setup from long time
I have a quick question please. How are you showing the online attendees the presentation? Is the presentation laptop also the main call laptop? If so, do you have to screen share the presentation or how does the online guests see the presentation and the presenter in a video tile?
Thank you for your question. Yes, for the way we setup in this video, the presentation laptop is the main host laptop. This laptop is sharing the screen with the online attendees. We really don't use this setup anymore, as we're constantly evolving. Please see our video on how to setup a broadcast level hybrid meeting for a better setup.
Great explanations, thank you.
I got a question but I will start saying thank you for your video. It was very helpful but I run into some kind of problem setting up a meeting. I got a mixer, I got speakers, cameras, projector. Everything works well until I need to send sound from my microphones directly to zoom. I know the mixer should be connected to laptop through USB, but I have no idea what to use. I am new to this. Please help me! Thank you!
Thank you for reaching out. To send the audio from the mixer to your laptop, we recommend using a USB Audio Interface. There are several different manufacturers. Shure makes a good one (X2u), also Focusrite has a good one. You would send the audio from your mixer using one of your Auxilary Outs on the mixer. This would go to one of the inputs on your USB Audio Interface. Then, connect the USB cable to your laptop. You will need to select the USB Audio Interface as your microphone in Zoom under "audio settings". Make sure that the Auxilary send master volume and the corresponding send volume on each individual channel on you mixer are up. You can do an audio test on Zoom, using one of your microphones, to make sure your audio is being picked up. Hope that helps.
@@360avrentals4 thank you very much. You saved me! ❤️😁
Allen and Heath Zed 6 has usb out, I use the ZED series regularly for conferencing
Thank you for the video, great explinations and good overview!
Excellent job thorughout the video. Very clearly articulated and the viduals clearly supported what the narrator was saying. Well done.
Can i connect a mixer to my edifier desk top speakers which have rca inputs they are the R128OT Speakers, please advise.
Yes. You should be able to connect with the proper adapters. If your mixer has an XLR output, you would need an XLR(f) to RCA (m) adapter to connect to your speakers.
@@360avrentals4 does this mean you connect 2 sets of R1280DBs speakers (RCA) to the 2 main outputs (XLR) of the mixer? 1 set has an active speaker (L) that chains the passive speaker (R) so 1 set wired on the Left Main output and another set on the Right main output, which make 4 speakers total driven by the L and R main outputs. Appreciate your feedback!
Oh em gee. Thank you for this. Crazy helpful. I've calmed down so much from watching this video in prep for graphics op.
sweeet video!
Wow this is far more complex that it needs to be. Have a look at how we do it and how the organisation we have helped do it
Which video
I am also interested to see that video. Thank you!
On of the best tutorial.....I got so many ideas from this video.....thank u so much.....we want more videos😍
Thank you! More videos coming in 2024.
Good teaching bro....its so helpful for me....thank u bro....waiting for more videos
can we use the splitter instead of docking station?
Hi. Typically, a splitter would just duplicate the same video signal. So, to my knowledge, a splitter would not be effective for this setup. Thanks.
Would the YoloBox devices replace Vmix or if they can stay together?
Yes, that is correct. The Yolobox replaces Vmix in this scenario.
Question, how can I tell if a mixer accepts a wireless in ear monitors. I have a Behringer Active powered speaker. This was so helpful. Thank you
Thank you. You will need a mixer that has multiple outputs to be able to send the mix to the different people who need to hear the mix. So, a mixer with multiple aux send outputs, or monitor outputs.
@@360avrentals4 oh thank you so much. I appreciate you responding. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you very much
Hii, i am a Production Manager in a tech company, leading in the GCC and Asia. I have spend 18years into stage production and looking to explore more. Plz let know if theres any openings or opportunities where i can fit in. Thnx.
Thanks for all the information. I notice you have the Yolobox Pro and ATEM Mini. How would you compare the two, since the ATEM is so much lower price? Even an Extreme ISO is lower than Yolobox, and does so much more. I don't have either (yet) but looking for input.
Hi. The Yolobox gives more production options and allows you to see the inputs on the display interface as opposed to the ATEM mini. From my experience, the Yolobox is also a lot easier to use for a hybrid meeting. If you're just using the switcher for presentations in the room, then the ATEM will work. You can also feed the ATEM to a display monitor and see all of your inputs. It really just depends on what you plan on using the switcher for. But, it's just my personal opinion. There are members of our team who prefer the ATEM over the Yolobox. It's a matter of preference and comfort.
I have a dj set that’s Bluetooth and then an aux for the speaker I’m so confuseddd (crying in girl )
thank you i was worried the audience saw my notes.. very helpful video
So happy to help!
Possibly a silly question: how do you make it look tidy once you've set up? Hiding all this cables across the floor, stuff under the desk, etc... is it just a case of taping it down and throwing a tablecloth over the production desk?
Great question. We tape down all cables using black gaffers tape. We also us production draping and black skirts to cover the cables at the tech table.
Great video, thanks guys. Really helpful to see the audio setup more extensively in this one. 🙂
Can I use an XLR Y Splitter and take sound from both left and right channels from the mixer down to one XLR cable for stereo? Thanks
Greg, what model of docking station are you using in this setup? Do you recommend that one or possibly something better? I am having trouble getting an HDMI out signal from a HUB. I just got a new laptop that has a Thunderbolt 4 connection on it, is there a Thunderbolt 4 docking station you would recommend. Thank you !
Belkin or Satechi make pretty good docking stations.
I spent an entire day sitting in an empty room with virtually all the same equipment trying to use all my brain power to work out how it would all work together. I came up with almost the same solution as you. I wish I found your video before that. I probably would have had it going in an hour or two. Great video. Thanks.
Super g, thank you very much! This should work through a video switcher like the roland v160 id think since the switcher simply sends signal out. This is a setting issue i was having and didnt realize it was on the powerpoint / windows side. Thank you very much
What if only 2 displays show up
Hi Hargun. Try selecting "Detect" under the display settings.
Thank you for explaining the acronym "PFL"=Pre-Fader Level.
Hey there, does the virtual control PC run Zoom as well?
Hi Christopher. Yes, the "Production Laptop" (2nd laptop) runs the virtual meeting as a host or co-host.
Do you use Zoom for your virtual attendees? if so, how do you set up the audio for the people on zoom to hear the person with a microphone in the room?
Hi Beni! Thank you for your question. To feed the audio to our virtual attendees, this is how we set it up. 1) We connect the wireless receiver to an input on our mixer (for example channel 1). 2) We use an auxillary send (for example Aux 1) from the mixer to connect to an input on a USB audio interface. 3) We adjust the auxillary volume on the corresponding input (channel 1) so that the virtual audience can hear it. 4) We connect a USB cable from the USB audio interface to a USB input on the "production laptop". 5) In Zoom, you must select the USB audio interface as your microphone. This will allow all of the audio from your mixer to feed directly to your virtual audience. If you have further questions, please let us know. Best Regards
Am I going to burn something out because this is what I'm doing. I have a 1/8" male din plug plugged in the phone earphone jack, the other end is left and right 1/4" jacks, don't know the proper name. I have left in channel 1 and right in channel 2 and it works. I have all older equipment...a Mackie 12 channel mixer with Yorkvill NP 25 powered speakers. The guy at the store said that I cannot hook the phone directly to the speaker, but I tried today and it gave me a low volume even when turned up and my limiter light was on, so I stopped. I used a 1/8" stereo male din plug in the phone with a 1/4" mono adapter on the other end plugged into the NP25, but like I said, low volume and limiter light on.
What are you using for the downstage monitor? Great video and walkthrough
Hi Zakia. Thank you for your question. The monitor used in this video is a 42 inch monitor. It's mounted on a tripod TV stand. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thank you king
Nice video... Would be great to see this video in a landscape mode
Thanks for your input.
My mixer is female in only.
Sounds like The Game
Excellent video, but I have a very noob question. Which of the 3 laptops is signed into Zoom as the host (if any) and which are just signed in as guests? I'm connecting an analog mixer (Behringer 1204 USB) into my laptop, and my guests are either receiving a distorted audio signal or no audio at all. I am brand new at this and very frustrated. I don't have any video switcher either hardware or software. TIA.
Hi Bruce. The "production laptop" is signed in as the host. The 3rd laptop is signed in as a guest. All audio is routed from the auxiliary output on the mixer, to the USB Audio Interface, to the "production laptop" USB port.
OBS is a virtual switcher that has a version of their software available for a free trial.
Pwd po ba na from lineout ng powered speaker iinput ko sa line in ng mixer po?
Thank you for this video. How about having 2 locations attend the same Townhall meetings, say through Teams Meeting, location 1 has attendees present physically and location 2 has attendees too physically. Let's say location 1 has the 1st speaker, how can location 2 audience besides the video, how can location 2 get good audio coming from the speaker from location 1?
Hi. Thank you for your question. Will there be anyone from location 1 or 2 who will be presenting in-room?
Ok. I misread. So there is a presenter at location 1. Will there be another presenter at location 2?
@@360avrentals4 yes, so we call it a Hybrid Townhall where there are 5 locations, each has their live audience and each also has a co-host, co-host will take turns. Like, location 1 will welcome everyone in the Townhall, after that location 2 will announce the Top Performers, location 3 to introduce the intermission number etc
@@gianninni Ok thanks. All 5 locations would need to have co-host privilege in the Teams platform. It would just be a matter of connecting video and audio signal at each location. Each location would need to have 1 laptop(co-host) where the video and audio would be fed. It really depends on if you want a full video shot of the whole room and if you want to pickup the audio from the live audience or just the presenter. It could be as simple as having a stationary webcam connected to the laptop and either use the mic from the webcam, or connect a microphone to a USB audio interface, which would then connect to the laptop, There are different variables which would determine the best setup. Please feel free to email us at info@360avrentals.com, for a more detailed recommendation. Thanks
What will happen if you only connect one speaker to a mixer? Will it make a difference??
Yes it will. Typically, the larger the room is, the more of a difference it makes.
Yes. Exactly what the previous reply says. You typically should use more than 1 speaker in any room above 750 sq ft.
What a great idea! These videos are so helpful!
This is fantastic! More of these!
