Nope not quite
@kjcbjc1 yeah it needed some help
Looks like job security !
Do they feel the same in the dark?
I better save 26k or its never happening
It's a big expensive part of a ranch
At least they are both Pete's
@@kjcbjc1 yeah that's true
I still say it,you love it and we can see it
looks like that takes some time. how far do you have to haul your loads?
At the moment it's short haul 9 miles one way
Love the colors! So much better looking than the solid white groups. And yes I agree, you can man handle a sheep if you need to as well, can’t do that with a cow. Fencing for cattle is cheaper and good dogs to guard sheep aren’t cheap, but sheep are a lot easier as far as facilities needed to work them
❤❤
Gw looks pretty happy on that hay
You ever thought of selling raw milk. I don't know if its legal in Montana, but it might be a way to turn those cows into profit without selling them. Milking parlor might be hard to do.
@NathanReeves-s4l it is legal in Montana I haven't thought about selling milk but I have thought about having a high quality milk cow heard so i can sell good milk cows.
Hi. I wondered if you had ever considered Agroforestry to help with the regen of your ranch? There is a farmer in England called Stephen Briggs of Whitehall Farm, Peterborough who, like you, runs an arable farm but with one major difference - he grows his combinable crops alongside rows of apple trees, spaced 24 metres apart. The main benefits he has discovered are fourfold: 1) During seasons with high winds his wheat yields remain higher than his neighbours, who have experienced 20% losses in field, due to self-threshing. The apple trees grow 4m tall, which gives a 40m radius of protection from the winds. By slowing down the wind, it protects the cereals and stops water loss and wind erosion from the soil. 2) The strips beneath the trees are planted with legumes and flowers to attract beneficial insects and pollinators - so no insecticide has been needed for the crops grown in between the trees during all his 17 years of farming his land. 3) He has doubled productivity across his farm, by effectively growing in three dimensions (3D), throughout the year. He makes maximum use of his soil because one of his two crops is always growing. Either the combinable crop or his trees. And because they grow at different times, they don't compete for light. And they don't compete for nutrients because the trees get their supply from deeper in the soil. In fact, he has seen a massive improvement in soil quality, health and beneficial mycorrhizal fungi because the tree roots go down far lower than the cereals, bringing life up to the soil where the crops are grown. 4) The trees sequest carbon helping towards industry net zero targets. This, in time, might give another income stream by selling carbon credits. If you are interested in finding out more then I would suggest making contact with Stephen directly as I know he is happy to share his knowledge to encourage other arable farmers to consider agriforestry. A quick Google search and he is easily found. May God direct your steps and establish your thoughts (Proverbs 3.5-6 & 16.3). With thanks to you for your informative videos, Andrew from Lancashire, England (grandson of a mixed tenant farmer from Yorkshire)
Are you moving down there or what?
@Oldworldranch no i just had to take a job for awhile unfortunately
@@406regen seems like a lot of people are moving down that way
Not me I'm a prairie person
Looks like you brought winter with you...

Best of Luck in Tennessee
Hopefully this job works out for awhile.

@norman7179 lol no i believe he wears those really big things that have become popular for some reason.
Great practice! Don’t wait on somebody else to bail ya out Make choices that minimize needing bailed out ❤ Great example set!!
That storm really dumped on us! Highway out of Great Falls is clear and mostly dry now, until MM79. I grew up in Tennessee, and don't miss their winters at all!!
It sure did! Where at in TN i have only been to Chattanooga once before but this time I am headed further North next to johnson city.
@@406regen Clarksville, just northwest of Nashville. You'll still be up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Johnson City. All those folks as well as the people in western North Carolina where my brother lives, are still fighting their way back from that storm.
@silversage03 Yeah, the job I'm going to is to help clean up, I will be hauling mulch to the landfill.
@silversage03 i will be going through Clarksville on my way over there
@@406regen get ready for the traffic! I miss the trees and Cardinals, but am thankful to be here in Big Sky Country now!
Looks like the snow is there buddy stay warm don’t get discouraged
Yeah it finally decided to be winter
And the temps are about to drop drastically here
They are going to drop here too by the weekend the are calling for negative temperatures. But then it's supposed to warm up again
@ negative temps are forecast here as well 🥺 I was curious to learn what kind of sheep you’re raising?
@mykindpharm katahdins they are a hair sheep so they don't require shearing they shed there hair like a horse or dog, and there main perpupose is for meat.
@ thank you 😊 I have been looking at starting a very small project (2 acres) and wanting to learn more about the requirements for dormer/east Frisian crosses… looking for wool, meat and milk
Safe travels
Thank you
I so wish we had gotten 18 inches of snow here in Idaho for a good irrigation year 🥰
Yeah they snow pack is very important for the irrigation
Safe travels!
Thank you
18 inches is a lot of snow! We probably only got a couple inches, but lots of wind
Yeah it finally decided to be winter
Brrrrrrr
It's winter time it wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't any wind.
@@406regenwe're in so cal and have a little wind and they keep shutting our power off to keep us all safe.
Yeah they are doing that some now up here after we had a wild fire started when power poles were snapped on a 70 plus mph wind, it burned over 10,000 acres and 25 buildings. Speaking of fire i hope you are safe with what's happening in California.
I can't imagine having to pay those prices! If you decide to go into business yourself, let me know!
Right now, I know why nobody builds a new fence, but it sure is nice to have that 40 acres done.
Very good informational video. That fence might outlast us all
@Hazycoulee well I'm hoping to not have to redo it in my life time lol
Very Nice vidéo!!👍

Are you marketing locally only?
In State only at the moment but my goal is to market across the USA

Glad he's doing better.
Me too I was really regretting having him fixed.
I raised a couple black belly rams last year to butcher to see if it was something our family would like. Hoping to get some more hair sheep in coming years to keep down weeds and hit the hard terrain that cows avoid.
@@beardedthunder2111 the sheep will do it .
I was really impressed with the variety that they will eat. They would stand on each other back and nibble the pine trees. Do you plan on ever selling any "starter flocks" couple ewes and ram?
@beardedthunder2111 no i m not planning on selling anything besides meat but in a few years it might be an option
Do you produce enough to sell or is it for the family at this point? I’ve been loving the content! Thanks
@MidWayPiper this will be the first year that I am able to start marketing the meat . It's still a small amount but it will keep getting better each year, it's hard to build a flock from scratch and be able to market the same year.
@ for sure. Love the work and video content.

@ glad to see the work you are doing. I’ll give you a shout on my next video from my humble little channel.
There's an Antelope at 35:30. I've heard my dad talk about how he used to see huge herds of them when he went out west as a boy in the 60's. I've only seen a couple. Are they making a resurgence out there? Do you have any measurable damage on your place from wildlife damage? Wildlife are a huge problem for farmers in South Carolina were we are.
The Antelope seem to be in pretty healthy heards out here, I don't really measure what they eat yet but that's mostly due to my flock being so small that I have to worry about the grass, that being said if your go ask a farmer to hunt them they will to take as many as you want because they do a good amount of damage. What part of South Carolina is am actually headed over to McCormick area to drive truck and help with clean up from that bad storm.
@@406regen We are just North of there. North of Clemson. But I've worked for a farmer down towards McCormick. Thanks for the help with that storm. A lot of folks especially in the Mountains are hurting pretty bad. Good video by the way. I'd love to see how you harvest it all. I've never heard of folks doing what you're doing that far west.
@NathanReeves-s4l unfortunately this planting was a fail but we will be retrying when we get the soil health built up.
@@406regen Sorry to hear that. I'll be praying for your next one.
@NathanReeves-s4l it probably would have worked if we did it the conventional way but it's all a learning experience
