Top teachers share their most vital lesson!
For ten years, I worked on a book called MISSING PIECES - 52 VITAL LESSONS OUR KIDS SHOULD BE LEARNING AT SCHOOL (BUT AREN'T). Now that it's out in the world, I'm curious about what others, especially the world's best teachers, believe are the most vital lessons that need to be taught and learned.
To get the MY VITAL LESSON project started, on May 1, 2023 I began an around-the-country drive where I asked wise teachers and leaders,
"What's the most vital lesson you teach (or believe needs to be taught)?"
Their answers, whether brief or extensive, always intrigue and inspire me, and I bet you'll find them intriguing and inspiring, too.
I'm Jaime Richards, a writer and veteran teacher currently working with aspiring new teachers at National University. I live in Moorpark, California.

Traci Tackett — "Appreciation of Place"
During Traci's teaching career, she taught a variety of grades and subjects, and that's why I love this lesson so much. It's relevant for all ages. I see it working well with elementary, middle, and high school students - and beyond.
Personally, I've never had a traditional hometown and perhaps that's why I haven't had a proper appreciation of place. But after listening to Mary, I've been trying to be more grateful and appreciative of where I live and what it has to offer.
It's one of the many lessons I wish I had learned earlier. And it's why I believe so strongly that the most vital lessons teachers teach aren't just for their students, and they're not just for children....
Personally, I've never had a traditional hometown and perhaps that's why I haven't had a proper appreciation of place. But after listening to Mary, I've been trying to be more grateful and appreciative of where I live and what it has to offer.
It's one of the many lessons I wish I had learned earlier. And it's why I believe so strongly that the most vital lessons teachers teach aren't just for their students, and they're not just for children....

Stephen Russ runs a basketball program in the Vero Beach/Fort Pierce Florida area. He teaches and coaches basketball, but as he says, "It's way more than basketball." I spent a lot of time on the reservation as a kid. We owned land nearby. Beyond sad and these people can't be helped. Drugs, alcohol, obesity, disease, domestic violence, utterly low IQs, and 100% funded by your tax dollars. They spend all their time blaming America, when most American's go without the basics these people have thrown at them. Food, housing, medical, dental, psychologists, and none of them appreciate it. They simply lack the most basic intelligence to move themselves in any forward direction.
