Aerial Hoop Tutorial for Beginners: Lyra Transitions
#Aerialhoopbeginner #aerialhooptransitions #aerialhooptutorial
**This video is meant to inspire and entertain, it does not replace formal instruction. Aerial arts can be dangerous, therefore one should use the guidance and supervision of a qualified aerial coach.**
In this beginner tutorial I demonstrate one of my favorite aerial hoop transitions, "The bird's nest to Straddle back". Remember to always use a mat and practice with a friend. This video is designed for all aerialists looking to review basic transitions.

      I tape my lyra always. Im a sweaty person so the tape helps me maintain my grip despite the moisture and also the tape helps prevent your clothes sliding against the bar. If you prefer untapped I may suggest wearing clothes more suitable for pole dance like shorts.

    This is an awesome video! Lots of great additions to my usual conditioning. I do have one question if that's ok. Having taken classes for a year and a half I now have had my own rig at home for the past 6 months (yay). I am seeing so much progress from training both off and on the hoop, however I wonder how many days/how long for you recommend training generally a week to ensure slow but steady progress? I do a lot of HIIT and weights off of the hoop which helps majorly, however I probably only get on the actual hoop once a week (particularly because it is weather dependent). I really just want to amp up my skillset now, as I've been stuck at the same level for a while. Thank you ! x

    • @katerawsaerialist844
      @katerawsaerialist844 3 года назад

      Good morning! Thank you for watching and supporting my small channel. Congrats on getting a hoop and seeing progress, I know sometimes progress can be slower than we would like and that can be frustrating. But progress is progress no matter how small. Everyone progresses in their own way and time. What you are doing sounds like a steady solid practice. You could bump up the hoop practice to 2 sessions per week, if you are feeling it. Another tip that helped me progress, if that I would film myself doing choreography and conditioning, then watch the video and give yourself a little critique. After watching yourself immediately get back on the apparatus and make the changes you critiqued yourself off on and film it. Then you can compare the two videos in the same session. See what you did well and then see where you would like to improve. And its an awesome and easy way to see the micro progress between practices. I do this every time I train now. Even if I am just messing around, I always film myself, watch it, and then try it again.

    Hello, thanks for posting this! please answer me. I just took my first Lyra class today! I love it but I couldn't hang on it (from hang) without assistance and I couldn't do the one leg change even with assistance, I feel that my arms are very weak! when I go to the gym I never do a pull up or chin up or push ups! I feel a little bit disappointed but I don't want to give up. Can you please tell me if strengthening my upper body would help? Also, is the hoop being high (I'm short) a factor? would you recommend me asking the instructor to lower it? please advise!

    • @katerawsaerialist844
      @katerawsaerialist844 3 года назад

      Hey! I completely empathize with you. My first lyra class I could not pull up and I was the only one in class who could not get into the lyra. My advice to you is to keep going! Stay consistent in your conditioning and over time and practice you will be able to hang. Remember that all tricks stem from conditioning exercises. So yes, build strength from excercises (core, arms and yes, even legs) and you will get more aerial endurance. Feel empowered to ask your instructor for modifications and ask questions. Let them know how you are doing. I like to use resistance bands around my lyra or pull up bar when I train pull ups, see if your gym has them. If your gym has the ability to change hoop height, then yes you may ask for it to be lowered. I have trained at gyms where the hoop could not be lowered. And I have also trained at gyms that denied my request to lower and stated that the height challenge is part of strength building.
