I just used a photoscan and made the image look like from an old camera to hide any imperfections, it looks really nice, and the performance is very good, the downside is that this is a very rigid approach, and it's very difficult to expand beyond that

Finally. Someone properly explained how to do this without shaders. I also think we can bake edges into a texture itself, and do not use extra vertices for this
There are two teams -Artists : I don't understand shaders, I'm going to texture edges -Devs : I don't understand shaders, I'm going to steal an existing shader

To hide that camera warning you can click the 3 vertical dots in the top-right corner of the game tab above "gizmos", and un-check the checkbox "warn if no cameras rendering".
