Feeding corals in a dirty tank | CINEMATIC
Просмотров 167Месяц назад
EXPLANATION: yes I know feeding is going to raise my phosphates and that’s why I have algae. BUT iv been running phosguard for a while now and a few of the corals iv had for a while were starting to look “hungry” without any phosphate. Recently I siphoned my sand bed and had a diatom bloom, I am also feeding this one time to test it myself if low nutrients can cause diatoms, since I haven’t had...

Pico Reef Showcase | 5 Gallon | Euphyllia Garden
Looking good man! I would pull that rest of the algae out by hand, maybe use a tooth brush and scrub it down a little. Anc I can't really seem much of a Clean up crew. I would go to your LFS and stock up on snails and Hermit Crabs. Or if they don't have much go check out Reef Cleaners, they always have a great selection! Here is what makes up my CUC, Astraea, Trochus, Ceriths, Nassarius snails, and a mix of hermit crabs, Dwarf Ceriths snails, a few Bumble Bee Snails, Ninja Star snails, two fighting conchs, a serpent and brittle starfish, a few micro brittle stars, stoma snails, two peppermint shrimp, and loads and loads of Copepods! And I have little to no algae after my ugly phase and the addition of a CUC.
Pls return the Red Sea ato they are notorious for there sensors going bad it happened to my cousin twice and the customer service is dog shit
I’m going to have to look into that, I saw it could be from being to close to the dosing lines but I’m worried about how far it sticks into the tank. Still haven’t opened it yet but my wife was very excited to buy me that one so I guess I’ll see for myself
@ yeah see how you like it there’s always some bad apples with any product hope yours is good
So amazing budy...👍i like it
Thank you!
do you have something that stirs up and scavenge in the sand? Debris can accumulate overtime and can become a nitrate factory. you can vacuum it or something
A bunch of sand snails! My issues are getting better now I had some phosphate swings which caused a huge Dino outbreak. I also didn’t siphon my sand bed for a long time, then did too well and caused a huge swing lol I should vacuum it tho
cut your lights back and do a soft reboot with all the new goodies you got. always remember slow is fast in the saltwater world of reefing. do a 50% water change and a heavy cleaning and aim for that hair algae. introduce fresh copepods with the refill. allow your tank to run for a week then add the skimmer and do one small change a week over the next month or two i promise you your reef will appreciate you so much more than just hooking it all up and going for gold as fast as you can. salt tanks DO NOT LIKE FAST SWINGS. you got this bud.
Thank you! I do agree I made a mistake going for gold right away, everything I add I do plan on waiting about a week inbetween to avoid too much change too fast. I do plan on doing a heavy cleaning as well, I think I overdosed GFO which caused some swings but we’re back on the road! Great is on the way!
I'm the same. Congratulations. I don't know if my reef tank is cheap anymore with all the money I've invested in it 😂. But the best thing is that I enjoy it and I love this hobby.
And that’s all that matters! The price build up over time is crazy, but Atleast we get to stare at it all day!
Try marcoalgae as well
Hmmm I should!
Good channel documenting a new reef hobbyist struggles 👏. Lmk if you want some SPS frags I’ll hook you up ..
Thank you! and that would be awesome! I’m definitely going to start moving in that direction and would love trying something like that
The coral looks good
Thank you!
Looks like PC rainbow .. I have two frags of them
Nice, iv never done too well with sps but I really enjoy this frag
Nice good luck with it
Thanks, I’m worried but I have hope
Stunning!!❤🎉
Thank you! You have an awesome tank!
@ thanks
I suggest you proof read before posting, first of all, it should read: can't have anything, there's a difference between something and nothing, second, what exactly are you trying to say about the coral and shrimp???
Food paradise for the lil guy
It’s almost all gone thanks to him! He even took on a an appetite for Dino’s
Are you using RODI water and mixing your own saltwater? Or are you getting premade water?
I usually mix my own salt using Fritz salt with RODI, but lately iv been lazy and buying premade, the tank is looking much better now!
@@505Aquatics I would switch back to making your own RODI water, and self mixing. Just to eliminate any potential for unwanted contaminates getting in your tank.
Perfection is what stoping great
Perfection is on the way!
Manually pull that hair algae out bro you have a nice lil set up goin a lil more tweaking shes gonna be sweet good luck bud lookin good
Thanks! It’s coming along nicely and all the algae is fading away, a lot of nice stuff being added soon!
Bro u kneed more flow thats one reason u have crazy hair algea also toss some phosphates remover in ur hob filter n that stuff will go away or starv alot if it
A nicer power head would be nice! Iv had GFO running for about 3 months now, I guess I need to start going after my light! (Alr down to 6 hr light periods)
You can use fluconazole to deal with algee. ive added it once and since never had any algee.
Might have to look into it!
Currently on day 6 of my Fluconazole treatment for bryopsis and hair algae. I can already see patches melting
Puts it right into hair alage wtf can't even make that up sad
Do you do any water changes ? just curious . I been keeping my tank to clean and got dinoflagellates due to not feeding enough and nutrients bottomed out. I was wanting to try to feed a little more and let my tank run more dirty or more nutrients rather in the water and stop doing water changes for a while
I do regular water changes and didn’t have a Dino problem until I started using GFO, I currently believe my tank is going through the same thing and am just hoping it goes away on its own like the first time
get some snails or hermit crabs bro
Always!
It’s definitely a button scoly and not a micromussa or any type of acan. Also get your self a uv sterilzer to get rid some of the algae on your sand bed. It might be dinos and they do release toxins which might explain why some of your corals aint doing too well
Interesting about the Dino’s, Big things coming soon!
Ok, I’m not sure why no one is giving you some good advice. Your tank is acting like a freshwater tank and I think it’s because you are using freshwater equipment. Your filter and your lighting is causing your massive algae problem. Get yourself a hang on the back saltwater aquarium filter. Get one that has a protein skimmer. Also get a UV sterilizer, also know as a green machine this will not only weaken the algae growth but also kill the spores. Check the spectrum of your lighting, if you are able control the led colors turn down the reds and greens, push up the blues with minimal white. Hope that helps.
Thank you! Really thank you I never really thought about it like that. Big things coming soon!
Perry, maybe you could learn a thing or two. For one, there’s no such thing as a “saltwater filter”. They make filters with protein skimmers, but most people who run saltwater don’t use those. A regular old HOB filter works just fine for saltwater.
What’s your tank’s phosphate levels? Perhaps your phosphate is really high and fueling that algea
Late response but I actually got a test done and my phosphates were at .09, I have been running GFO and it helps but I haven’t found my “cure” yet
You could Probly put your scopes tang in a 55 gallon or 60 gallon when it a adult at East that’s what my saltwater fish store told me
I think I could get away with a 55! I’m hoping for just above that so I could also add in a few fish my tank couldn’t hold now (like a dragonette) and some coral that get too big (like pectinia!)
@ alright nice
What type of light you have on your tank
A coralife seascape, the one from petco. Grows coral great but also grows algae even better
That hair algae ugly.
Yurp
Just wording can a blue hippo tang be in a 4ft long off a tank because the owner of the saltwater fish store said a blue hippo tang could live in a 55 gallon Aquriam also cool coral but what do you think
Thanks about the coral! I think as a juvenile it would be fine for a few years, I wouldn’t know for sure but I would do it only if I had plans for upgrading. Iv never had a hippo tang but I would shoot for just above that 55 mark! I plan on upgrading to either a 65 or a 75 in the future, maybe bigger!
@ same but I haven’t even got my tank yet 💀 but Black Friday I will get it soon
Which LFS do you go to?
Southwest reef! They are both great, I just find more selection and hospitality there
@ I agree, licious is also good, but Rob has been very helpful and I’ve had good luck with everything I’ve bought there
Loving the new corals .. i was obsessed with gsp a while back i had a beautiful mint choc chip one there amazing if you can find one
Might have to look for one! Definitely want another 1 or 2, thank you! The hair algae is still winning the battle but we’ll get there
ABQ here! Have you tried chemipure? That might remove what’s feeding the hair algae
I have been using gfo, I don’t think iv been replacing it often enough tho. Burque strong!
First.
I am the first view
Under 1 min gang 👇👇👇
What happened to the other clowns?
Ich! Got it when I added the tang, then it killed everything but the tang
Also could cleaner shrimps eat ich because cleaner shrimps eat parasites
They can but tend to work on larger fish in the wild, and my shrimp (boxer shrimp) is a bully. I still love him though
Won't work in a reef aquarium like it would in the wild, the problem is the aquarium is a closed off ecosystem and in the wild fish will usually swim away from the place they got the ick and the ick parasites will drop off hence will probably not re-infect the same fish twice, however in a reef tank this isn't the case. They just keep multiplying.
I know that tuxedo urchins and pincushion urchins eat hair algae good
Iv thought about it! I do like my coraline algae tho
@@505Aquaticswell that’s good maybe you should get a sand sifting goby next there a good cleaning crew for sand
The last video you really scrub the algae good your coals are cool to watch eat
Thank you! Hopefully they start to split again soon!
How long you keeping your tang? Also I may get a 32. Gallon bio cube soon how many gallons should I top off a day or should I do it every day
On your last video I hade more questions
Every day, I get away with once a day but in a perfect world twice a day
@@505Aquaticsnice I think I buy a 55 gallon long tank at Petco because the bio cube tanks suck apparently and I may get a Tomini tang so he can live there for his life
You need to find the source that feeds the hair algae. Can I assume you are using an RODI?
I am! I recently did a water test and my parameters were great, I bought blackout curtains and stopped feeding nori In attempt, so far the algae has stopped growing further
You have a lot going on there.
Gorgeous!! ❤
Use a reef safe medication to get rid of the hair algae or it could be because you are feeding the fish to much so maybe stop feeding as much to get rid of the algae
I think I was feeding way too much nori, once daily and the tang would only eat a 1/4 of the piece I put in there. Hopefully thinks keep on clearing up in the tank now
@@505Aquaticsjust buy 30 hermit crabs
Yeap, that's the problem, nori contains way too much phosphate. I usually try to avoid feeding nori in tanks with weak filtration @@505Aquatics
How big is your tank? Just wondering becus e I was wanting to get my salt water tank soon
It’s a 29 gallon from petco! I chose this size because a weekly 5 gallon bucket water chance is about 15%, any larger and you might have to start messing with two buckets. That also means 2 buckets of saltwater going back in too! I would start anywhere between the 20g to the 40g range, and smaller and top off swings will be too much, any larger you start to largely rely on testing and correcting parameters. Whatever you pick you got this! Don’t give up through the ugly phases and learn from your mistakes!
@@505Aquaticsalso will you move your tang because they do grow big but I bet you know am just a really smart beginner. sense am getting a 32 gallon bio cube tank I may get a baby powder tang or baby yellow tang or baby hippo tang. then give it back to the pet store when it grows fully
@@505Aquaticsalso if I get the 32 gallon bio cube will I have to top off 5 gallons off fresh water or do a little like 2 gallons so the salinity stays at 1.025
@@505Aquaticswith the tangs I was going to get I will Probly give the tang back when the tang is 5 inches or 6 inches but Probly when it’s 5 inches
In a year or two when the corals grow out I’m hoping to have a larger tank! If your looking for a baby tang the powders and hippos may grow too fast, something along the yellow tang would give you less issues
I truly applaud your motivation that’s what I like about your channel. You are inspiring. I’ve been out to hobby for some time now and thinking about coming back keep up the hard work bro
Thank you! Its comment like this that make me keep uploading and putting effort into my tank! It’s definitely a lot of work and money but you should! It’s only going to get easier as things get better
IF I WAS YOU CLEAN THE ROCK FIRST BEFORE YOU BUY OR GET SOME MOLLIE TO EAT YOUR HAIR ALGAE
Ooh some Mollie might work!
How big the tank
29 gallon from petco
looking good what was the price of your tang?
I believe $75
dose beneficial bacteria regularly. Also too much white light could be the cause. maybe invest in a reef specific light, or if u have a reef light gradually use more blue light.
I definitely need a new light, the one I have has to be turned down manually everyday, I’m not sure which light to get, the AI prime was the plan but I don’t want to buy two since I’m not running a cube
