Too mechanical.
Thanks so much for posting this valuable interview. Three questions: 1) Have you (or has anyone reading this) come across any interview where he explains how he attained such excellent Mandarin skills in spite of growing up in Paris/Montreal? It's pretty admirable. 2) Are either of his parents musicians? 3) What is the piece he's performing 11:14-13:37?
中文说得这么好啊🤩

The Piano Bruce rarely performs techniques with any kind of exquisite formalism, and hardly contents himself as a performer or an actor. He just reincarnates himself to be a vital part inside the work, and strikes an amazing balance between his uninhibited character and the musical sublimities. He's really potential to transcend the concept of a 'winner', no matter whatever Bruce he is.

@@chingma4792 Thank you so much for your reply and for being so kindly receptive to my suggestion. I very much appreciate it. What kind of a traditional eastern musical instrument do you design ? It sounds very interesting : )
@@thestratford51 Guqin, 古(ancient)琴(musical instrument). Mainly for Chinese players, also some Japanese players. Piano🎹 in Chinese is 鋼(steel)琴(musical instrument), and violin 🎻 is 小(small)提(lift-up)琴(musical instrument). And 中提琴(viola, 'middle lift-up instrument' l),大提琴(cello, big lift-up instrument). In ancient times, 琴(qin) referred in particular to my instrument. But when later this or that kind of 琴 came in, my instrument changed his name to be 古琴, the ancient qin.
@@chingma4792 Thank you so much for sharing this information with me. What an absolutely beautiful instrument ! I have so much respect for you, and what you do. I just watched a video on RUclips of a performance from 'Guqin Master Chen Leiji' in New York, I am mesmerized by the tones, sounds and musicality that this instrument produces. I will spend some time learning more about this instrument. Thank you so much, Ch'ing Ma : )
@@thestratford51 Mr Chen is one of the typical Guqin players from conservatory of music, which is much influenced by western music. Excellent, but not of the old eastern purity. Japanese players do it better, especially in retaining old features, than us Chinese. Hong Kong and Taiwan musicians are also better than us in this regard. Our mainland was strongly influenced, in music, painting, everything, by the old Soviet Union, and therefore dramatically westernized, but technically not bad. Of course, even in the form of western expression, Chinese traditional music has been still keeping its own hinted appeal or connotation.
There's been commonly some adjectives in the dictionary of general contemporary pianists, elegant here or melancholy there. There are no concrete verbs inside, and even if they do use verbs, seemingly just imitating something out there, as if not really stirring up, not really seeking for, they never expect, and never despair. As an actor, they don't really advocate something. But for those outstanding like Liu, with inexhaustible vivid verbs inside. The name of Bruce has been destined to be uncommon. Born in Paris in 1997, Bruce Xiaoyu Liu graduated from the Montreal Conservatoire, successively studied with Richard Raymond and Dang Thai Son. He's got a perfect touching with the heart absolutely 💯
I've read another piece of your comments before you take it back, which really inspired me. You obviously got a lot from his great job more than I did. I just felt a Chinese concept, "活", which probably means living, alive, dynamic, vigorous or so, anyhow, the opposite of death and rigidity. I just listened a lot from a past maestro, Fou Ts'ong, whose generation was probably in more profound eastern poetic concerns. Besides, thanks for your encouragement on my translation!
