Thanks for the vid! What was the material at 4:30? Do you think it will handle stainless 304, 316 or galvanized sheet metal (at 0.5+0.5 or 1+1 thickness)?

@@MrBarrynicholas you pull them to release the hinges so you can raise the lid. I probably could have explained that a bit better
@@jdmjesus6103 Thanks for getting back to me. My problem is when trying to open the roof, the boot opens fine and the roof releases from above the windscreen, but then everything stops.
@@MrBarrynicholas OK, well this procedure is really just to manually operate the roof in emergencies or if it gets out of sequence somehow. If yours is stopping at the same point each time then it could be either a jam or more likely a limit/ position switch is not working correctly. Best bet is to get it on a decent scan tool and check the live data. IIRC the switches are all in pairs (L+R) so it should be easy to see which, if any are at fault. This car actually had a faulty one, but all it was was a loose screw. Hopefully yours is as simple!

@@sebastiandurrant3374 pretty far then. I trade under 'Future Racing Developments' although I must say, diagnosis without the car in front of me would be pretty difficult.
I have a 2002 SC 430 that has a convertible roof that stopped working after a fender bender. The other day I attempted to manually open hoping that it would 'reset' and restore the automatic operation functionality. Using the provided hex, I manually unlatched the front lock and proceeded to manually push back the roof halfway up to enable me to manually (firmly but gently ) pull up the package tray to open up the pathway for the whole top to regress into the trunk compartment. I proceeded to close the trunk to complete the closing sequence. My attempts to push back the package tray have completely failed and is it now impeding the convertible top from being closed as long as it remains stuck in this upright position ! I have unsuccessfully tried starting the engine in an attempt to automatically close it by pressing on the switch, to no avail. The roof switch still blinks red on being pressed, with no action on the roof, or the package tray. I spent a good amount of time checking and double-checking for any obvious visible obstructions with no success. I have read all the threads in this forum and no one has so far posted anything remotely specific to how to the ABCs of lowering the package tray to enable a manual re-closing of the convertible top in an emergency. Yes, there is lots of chatter about trouble shooting or replacing the motor and/ or a mechanical demonstration of how the system works, but zip about how to manually lower the package tray. I would appreciate any specific, concise ways to close the top, before I even consider going to the "stealership". Thanks.
It's been a while since i did this so I could be getting mixed up but I believe the two manual releases that I briefly mention in the video could be related to that. 8:20 in the video, 2 cable releases. It should really be plugged into some diagnostics though, there might be a switch not operating due to something being bent or whatever
@@jdmjesus6103unplug it and put power to it .power to the neg and ground to the power to put it back down

Amazing work
Thanks very much!
Useful info. Thanks.
Hi great video I've been looking for one with the same welder as mine for ages and I've found yours, i dont know much about this type of welder but i did use the foot operated models many years ago. I'm using my at home with the normal power supply, it welds thin items well but i tried to spot weld a 10mm nut to two penny size washers already welded together making one. When i attempt to weld it keeps throwing the power supply switch in the fuse box, it does it on the highest setting on the welder as well as the lowest. Am i overstepping the limits of the welder and it's never going to do it or am i doing something wrong. Thanks
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting a quality part at the end of the video, but you did an excellent job. The press tool you created was perfectly usable. Excellent work.
This is fantastic! Shame this tip isn't getting more views. Would you share how you made the anvils/dies? Are they machined? Hardened? Thank you.
Thank you very much! I bought a big chunk of bar stock on ebay and turned them on my small lathe. One is straight and the other has a curve to it, but I just cut 3 angles each side with the top slide by hand then blended everything with files and sandpaper. They aren't hardened, they would no doubt benefit from it but if they ever get too damaged I'd just make some more. Concentricity is key, so I used the 4 jaw chuck but there's that much flex in any wheeling setup that it's not necessary to be super precise. Just enough to keep a fairly consistent pressure and feel to it. I actually got hold of a cheap English (Chinese) wheel setup because I needed the deeper throat but the wheels are narrower so this one leaves a much nicer finish if you can get the piece in. I'll probably end up making a whole machine at some point, they aren't that complicated.
Great idea! Good Luck, Rick
I followed these steps, and my 2002 sc430 roof still can't open
You'll have to get it on a diagnostic machine then, something capable of viewing live data ideally
Thanks
So actually how do you detect that the o2 sensor failure?
If the light doesn't go on and off, or does so very slowly. Same as you would on a modern diagnostic scanner on a narrow band o2 sensor, but with a graph.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thank you for sharing and wow what beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
Hi, I have a 2011 is 250C and can’t get the roof to go up. Do I do the same thing for my car that you demonstrated in this video? Thanks in advance!
Sorry, I've never worked on one of those so couldn't say. Check the manual, it may be described in there.
with the hex key are you turning to the left or right? and this will release the hinge
Anticlockwise to release, clockwise to lock. Don't force it but it does require a moderate amount of force
Works great. Good example piece.
Thanks! I still use it regularly
what a pain in the butt. Not for me
You know this is just for emergencies and you don't have to do it every time, right? They're electric.
I have an 85 and my pump froze as well. Someone on you tube showed us to cross two terminals in the diagnostic plug by engine. After a couple of tries turning the engine over she burst into life. I was told this happened because it sat for a year with really low fuel.
Most likely batt or ig and fp, that would make the pump run full time and would bypass any relay issues. You shouldn't leave it like that as it won't be safe. This was a different kind of fault
@@jdmjesus6103 Thanks, I took the cross over wires right out as soon as she started. Runs great as always. I make sure the tank is forty or fifty percent full. Where do you find pistons and rings, it should be rebuilt sometime. Thanks for the advice, have a merry Christmas.
@@spotty67 ah that's good then. Tbh, it's been a very long time since I bought pistons for a 4age and I can't even remember where they came from! They were a very popular engine so I'd like to think parts are still available somewhere. Make sure you can get the valve shims before you start anything, they might be a tricky part to source and no doubt the head will need some work by now.
nononononononono ! there's people who can and there's people who can't - it's just the way of things . I know if I tried this I would be found one week later suffocated between the folding-arm mechanism with my eyes bulging out of my head ! and no amount of gentle persuasion will convince me otherwise . .... Remember Frank Spencer ? I make him look like a consummate professional . But thank you for trying .
Honestly, it's not that hard. It's easier if you have a friend to help though, or call the fire brigade if needs be 😅

Thanks for this! Great stuff
love the way you leave your mistakes in the video. I allows us mortals to think we can do what you do!!!.....I wish!!
Great informative video.....what thickness steel sheet are you bending?
In this project I used everything from 0.75mm up to 2mm, I forget what that is in gauge. I think this was either 1.0 or 1.2, in that area anyway.
you are a master !
Thank you very much! But it's really just lots of practice and many mistakes learned from
They look great! Of course, you could have left it better than original. BTW where did you get the rivet that goes outside, where the glass pivots? How are they called and how can I find it?
Thanks! Some i bought from Heritage parts centre, but I didn't buy enough, so I made the rest on my lathe.
guys doing this procedure is way easier than the way he did this!! if you just turn the ignition to the 2 position, and then turn the dial clockwise and then counterclockwise there will be a red light inside that hole below where you were turning the screwdriver at it will be blinking slowly first indicating the first digit of the code and then it will pause for about 2 seconds and then it will blink fast indicating the 2nd digit of the code it will blink with code 53 for right side o2 sensor and 32 for the left side 02 sensor! hope this saves you guys some time! also along with any other time your car is having a weird problem the first thing you should look at should be checking the computer for codes.. if you dont know the codes look them up, hope this helped u guys!
That's great, but you've entirely missed the point of this video and what you posted is the way to check for error codes, but is irrelevant to what is in this video. You should watch it again, this is not checking for codes, it is a specific diagnostic mode for the oxygen sensors ONLY. This test mode has the light illuminate or go off as the selected bank changes from rich to lean, or vice versa. Nothing to do with error codes, that's the easy one. I couldn't find a video on this test mode, hence why I made one. Just a couple of days ago I found a way to read codes and get live data from the HICAS ecu with modern diagnostics, I haven't edited that video yet though, but it will be uploaded once I get round to it. They don't call me jdm Jesus for nothing!
Thanks for the video. I found a cable that releases the pins in the pivot point of the roof was out. I reinstalled it and that part works now but I have the same issue you did when you said the 1st time you tried to pull up the package tray (I think thats what its called) It was really hard. I feel like if I pulled any harder, I would break something. Any clue why this would be so hard and do I pull super hard and pray. The car roof hasnt worked in a long time. Thanks in advance.
If I remember correctly, there is something which can be disengaged at some point in the procedure. A white piece of plastic on a cable that spins. I think this has something to do with it. You may be able to turn it manually just to get over that initial 'sticktion'. I could be remembering it wrong though, it has been a while. It was extremely hard to lift the first time though, and I was convinced I would break it. Then it just went. Have some finesse though, it may be that I loosened it by working it rather than just brute force. Try putting the same force in different places, maybe give it a few whacks with the base of your fist to try and get things going. It could of course be actually jammed in your case so don't over-do it. I didn't take it apart but I got the impression that it was reverse driving a worm gear, hence why it is so hard to get started. Hope that helps.
need a video on how to do this with car battery
Brilliant, I'm going to try this on my friends car, pump is stuck , worth a go
My sunroof blind not push back without opening the roof. Any ideas what it could be catching on
I do but I can't picture it without having one in front of me. There are ways to manipulate it to get it to go back manually but it's probably a sign something has come loose like in this case. Probably best to check it out properly.
I just had the same idea and 3d printed some last night, I didn’t think about the bearings though - great idea!
Hey mate, did they end up working being plastic and all?
