Colombia's Fat Catfish is one of freshwater's great mysteries. Not seen since 1957, there are more layers of intrigue surrounding this creature than it has rings of fatty tissue - i.e. a LOT! Firstly, nobody knows why it has that strange physiology: why is it fat? Could it be from overeating? Or a way to stay warm in the cold mountain waters of Colombia's Páramo? It could be something else enti...

The future of Denise & her friends

But the species continues to be threatened by sand mining and pollution. What is the future for the barb in the wild? This film - the third of three - explores this question by speaking with local fishers and experts in the r...
The Denison's barb and the aquarium trade

In our second of three films, we explore the Denison's barb in relation to the aquarium trade. When the species was first introduced to the hobby around the turn of the millennium, it was collected to such an extent that wild populations were compromised. But, realising that wild capture was unsustainable, the hobby started breeding programmes to satisfy the demand of a growing trade. Barb numb...

In late December 2021, Dr Kaya and Dr Oral, the Turkish research team who rediscovered the Batman River loach after it hadn't been seen in nearly 50 years, braved freezing conditions and relentless rain to conduct more research into the loach's range and distribution. After two days in the elements, they realised the water was too turbid to see anything, and the loach was likely to be hiding in...

Goldan denison barb available?!
I had 8 of them for 5 years in my planted 5 feet tank. Grew to a sizeable 6 inch. When mature they have a green hue on the top side and glorious gold body and deep red slash marks. Very active fish and swinms in a shoal like behavior. Damn it was during renovation, I lost them.
We should help in saving this beautiful fish from extinction
2:34 I really want to see the parenting of snakeheads in wild like this
Great presentations and factual talks 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Excellent event, congratulations! I was unfortunately not able to join you right from the beginning, therefore I am very happy to be able to do it now 😊

How can I work together with SHOAL to conserve freshwater species in India?
Very nicely made video of really amazing ecosystem
Loved it everyone! Fantastic job! I was really impressed by the coming together of the scientists and the community. Also congratulations to the Mexican government for supporting these critical inititiatives. Al rio lo cuidamos todos
I have seen and captured this species in India too. At first I thought it was the Spiny Loach but then I had captured Spiny Loach too and the Batman Loach looked very different. Same body type but different patterns. I want to share pictures and videos, whom can I contact ?
Beautiful content keep up the good work 👍🏻...❤
when is the next one
I have wanted this fish for a very long time. Anyone have a source for captive bred in USA?
This species is marked as an endangered species now, I am afraid you won't be able to get it in USA. Sorry to say it is only available in India.❤❤
@@balajisinghh I just got 11 of them from my local fish store in the USA last week.
Why are Denison’s so difficult to breed? I’ve read that hormones must be introduced , and even then success is extremely rare .
Is it ?😢
clear cool information
Interesting
Great video. Sadly not enough specimen footage when it was in the tank.
Well presented! Thank you for the information, hope the fishes and river stay healthy for generations to come!
Thank you for the great info! Yes, everything has to be sustainable. Would be so nice to view them in their habitats. I am keeping them (denison) in my fish tank and they are truly beautiful.
Very informative. 👍
Loved the subject, well presented.
