Snooky Pryor- Chicago Blues (w Ola Mae Dixon, Bob Guida, Eddie Lee Isaacs)
August 1991- Snooky Pryor- at the Abilene, NYC. I'm not sure what the title of this one is, but here we are backing up this Chicago Blues legend. That's Ola Mae Dixon on the drums, Bob Guida on bass, and me, Eddie Lee Isaacs on guitar. Glad we got this digitalized before the tape completely deteriorated. Where does the time go, it is 29 years already since we had this great opportunity to back up this amazingly talented man!

Joe Monk- Four

Joe Monk is an amazing jazz guitarist who decided to focus more on teaching. He is legendary on Long Island for his consummate ability as an educator and artist. After his passing, some of his devoted fans put out this recording, a live tape recording of a gig. Ray Gogarty is also on guitar, a great player and teacher as well, but there is no mistaking Joe here. He is way out front, the majorit...

Eddie Lee Isaacs- I Wanna Get Married!
I remember Ray making me learn insane sax-like solos on the guitar, and no fingers where spared on 9, 13, flat 5, etc. chords chords chords. He was a very nice guy. "You're gonna be a monsta Kovic," was always his encouraging praise. Those lessons paid huge dividends over the years. What would life be without the challenge of the instrument? Thank You Ray.
I love him. He’s the best!!!!! Hope I get to play like him. ❤
They all all came up on Tbone Walker's back!
Studied with Ray back in the 70s learned a lot and still have many lead sheets and charts that he hand wrote.
Thank you … this is so good … Snooky had a phrasing and time that were so uniquely him …. Tip top 🙏🙏 and the band full of love and respect .. great !!!
This is mighty, mighty fine!!
JOE MONK was as great a guitarist as any of them TAL FARLOW - BARNEY KESSEL - CHUCK WAYNE - JIMMY RANEY - I saw them all play live in the clubs - But JOE MONK stayed with teaching guitar rather than going out too much playing - Yet I did see him play a few times out AT THE Garden City Hotel , Long Island ,New York - and What I said before holds true !

My big brother, I miss you Rocky. Love you 😘💗🙏🎼🎶🎤🎵
george always solid as a rock. RIP brother.
thanks fr posting. RIP George.
In VERY loving memory of Mr. James Edward "Snooky" Pryor (1921 - 2006 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
He died in 2006.
According to Tony Glover's biography on Little Walter, it was Snooky who found the riff that Walter used in his career-defining hit, Juke.
Snooky and Moody's Boogie
Tasty! There should be more recordings of this legend! Great sound and feel and everyone is jamming on all fours if you'll pardon a pun. Nice.
Superb harp player and singer, songwriter. I was always blowing Snooky Pryor numbers..on my harp. Legend.
Well stated!!! Thank you!!!
He's my brother, and I miss him. 2 years gone. Thanks for posting this.
May Rocky rest in peace, glad to have this memento and to share it
Too cool!!
Blissed-out Bob. thanx
When I was 14 I took a few lessons from Joe Monk ... I am 76 now. I didn't stay with the lessons unfortunately.
Really nice work Eddie, great tone! Is there a lesson or tabs on this somewhere? Can't find any anywhere.
I don't know of any, thank you!!!

Tough Rocky- say hi to Bob for us too.
He was a hella of harmonica player, in fact I'd say he was the best playing that harmonica like nobody else, he was the first introducing the microphone between and ampped harmonica.
indeed an all time great! I'm so fortunate to have had the chance to work with Snooky!
RIP ROCKY SAVINO 4/7/20
Oh my! I am so sorry to hear this and thank you for notifying me...
Rocky Savino passed away april 7 2020. Rip Brother Rip Bobby Guida as well
I met Mr. Snooky Pryor in his final years, when he could no longer play. He became a friend, and I loved listening to his stories. Wish I could have known him in his prime.
The nature of the gig and things didn't allow me to interact with him as much as I would have liked. He was extremely gracious though and so easy to work with, what a pleasure!
GREAT STUFF SNOOKY !
sorry to hear that brother
Snooky's choice and take on this is way cool - and his soloing so precisely on the upper 8,9,10 end of the harp - where angels and wannabees (rightly) fear to tread - is superb
thanks Jerry, what a great song and here in the hands of a master!
Snooky's harp wasn't broken in enough to nail all those Jimmy Reed blow bends on the upper end
Great Drums.
thank you! That is George Morales, a real veteran of the NYC scene, tops!!!
On October 19th 2006 which was 12 years ago on this day.We lost a great Blues musician.RIP Snooky Pryor.
Wow! Thanks for reminding me of this!
Your welcome. Thanks for posting the video.
The real deal.... thanx for posting.
Rocky "Jr" Savino is the man!
Sounds good!
much appreciated!
Can you believe it's been 10 years Snooky Pryor left us.His music still lives on.
And thanks to the internet we can still enjoy his music and also watch rare footage isn't the Internet something amazing?
@@drrichardarerbac8004 Yes I agree.
The Late Great Snooky Pryor!
Played over 60 years at peak
HI!! I was lucky enough to play drums for Snooky a time or two!! Will never forget it!!
Wow- we are some lucky guys, huh!!!
💜💙
Joe and Ray were both of my teachers. One lovelier than the next. First pro gig was sitting in with Ray at Sonny's. Ambassadors of jazz, and fun.
I know Snooky has a show filmed from the Chicago Blues fest but where it's at is beyond me. I know this because I seen it, he's playing with the House Rockers and it's great!!!
I have seen that, with Johnny Nicholas, right? Fortunately, there is a whole lot of Snooky out here on youtube!
Snooky is the boss when it comes down to the Chicago harp sound. After all he was the one that put it there in the first place.
Yes, some kind of talented man!
A pioneer and one of the best!

Great post !!! One of Joe Monk's students, Peter Rogine, has been my Guitar instructor for a number of years. I'd love to see anything that Joe produced on paper, if you're willing to share them.

eclectvadio Thanks so much. Yes, I have whats on the website. I also have Satin Doll, Misty, somewhere over the rainbow, four, Georgia, All the things you are, When Sunny Gets Blue, Autumn Leaves, Wine and Roses,Jordu, Carnival, Green Dolphin Street, Makin Whoppee, How High The Moon, Yesterday, Aint Misbehavin, Impanema, Here There Everywhere, Shadow of Your Smile, And I Love Her, Whats New, Easy Livin, Easy to Love, Lady is a Tramp. +eclectvadio Hello, just wondering if you were able to find your Joe Monk arrangements to share. Thanks so much- Jim
I have some arrangements but not the accompanying tapes and would like to know how they should sound...
Send me a note I may have some more Monk ....of course he was the best and shared everything!
@@Guitarartistry hello from Joe Nania on Long Island -
Joe Monk and Billy Bauer were the two best teachers I ever met and that includes grade school ,high school and college. Joe was great with students and could get you playing what you wanted to play ..........I could go on but here's the thing - Every lesson I took with Joe he wrote out the arrangement or theory lesson during the session - fast and neat with hardly ever a mistake scratched out. I used to ask for a song and he would put down a great arrangement and then teach ME how to play it - no mean feat !!!!
taur1968 Hi. I studied with Joe for a short time. Loved the guy and what a great teacher. Do you have any of his arrangements you would be willing to share? Thanks
There are a handful of Joe's great arrangements on his website: www.joemonk.com/arr/alone_together.htm
Absolutely sharp!, They play great & I love Snooky's singing & harp phrases. Too bad the person recording it didn't get the [vocals outfront], ha, my typical complaint, Josh Holliday, Orlando, FL.
Josh, this was recorded with a single camera, so no mix, and of course it lost fidelity with the smaller file needed here. An amazing memento and so honored to have played with Snooky. Thanks for your comment!
Great harp player and wonderful singer.
Wonderful! <3
Great stuff... Eddie Lee is the TOPS!!!
BADASS!!!!!
thank you!
Cool. I'm gonna have to start doing this song myself.
