Caldercraft HMS Victory part 11 cannon
This is part 1 of 2 parts on the construction & rigging of the Victory 24Lb Cannons & their rigging. This part deals with the construction & Blackening of the Brass parts. Its long, but I wanted to cover all the detail.
The next part should be a lot shorter but wil ltake a bit longer to do as its complex. Still in 2 minds as to if I will rig all the hidden cannons as well.

HMS Victory Part 10 Staiways & shot Garlands
Просмотров 2 тыс.6 месяцев назад
This video is long. Sorry about that but I wanted to include everything prior to the cannons. This is the gratings, grating surrounds, stairways, stanchions & ropes & shot garlands & 24Lb cannon balls. The audio changes on a few sections as I accidentally recorded background music from my radio that was detected as copywrite issues. Hence I ha dto rerecord the commentary. Lesson Learned. Enjoy....

This upload shows the marking the false gun ports at the bow( which i will enhanced as closed ports with a twin door later rather than the single port opening. They re closed on the current iteration ), a template for the gun barrel position of the dummy barrels, fiitting of the dummy barrels ( to be removed & put back at a later stage) and the creation of the grating of the upper Gun desk. Caldercraft HMS victory part 8 Coppering the Hull Sorry being away for so long, this video is made of of several clips made over the last year. Coppering the Hull was for me a long process and I had to take several breaks and distractions to finish. I'm glad I did as more time and care was taken. It is a laborious process and takes a LOT of patience, Superglue ( Xtra Thick, 2 bottles ( 50gm)) a...

Best. Part of the video was when the awful music stopped. The on,y surprising* thing was the size of the box. Other than that, it’s just a guy hauling out loads of unidentifiable packets from a box. The dog (not sure why it’s tied up inside) seems o be looking on and thinking, ‘that’s the end of my walks for the next five years’ 😂😂
Do you think it would be wise to leave the cross beams off until the second gun deck is planked?
Looks great Paul. The upper gun ports are deeper than the width of a planking. What part are you using to line the upper gun ports? Thanks, THERK
n the meantime my compliments for your Victory, I'm making the Corel Victory 1;98, I wanted to ask you for help. Between one frame and another there are 2 gunwales and I ask you, but once the two openings are cut, how are the strips supported between them? Is there a technique? Please help me.

At 16:29 into Part 6 you mentioned that you have to cut out a portion of the inner bulwark wall that had been added after the upper gun deck was in place. This was necessary, because the inner and outer gun ports did not match up in the center portion of the ship. But I don’t see where you exactly how you cut out those excess pieces. Can you provide me the details? I was very surprised and concerned when I ran into this glitch because I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere in instruction manuel and I thought I had done something wrong in the construction! I would appreciate any help you can provide.
How much you earn from it
Nothing its my private build being documented
Great question I wonder as well love to do this full time
hey paul, nice video as always. I did get my hms victory caldecraft but i did buy from jotika directly. I am currently 30 hours into it and working on firs stage planking. just amazing piece of kit. I finished 5 large scale ships before this one and this is so far amazing kit. 100% worth the money
You would find it much easier to assemble the trucks if you tack the front axil to a sheet of A4 paper so that you don't end up juggling several pieces. When l built mine l laid out all 30 cannons on the sheet and left them all on the sheet once glued which then made it easier to paint. I find thinking ahead and planning makes life easier in the long run.
Tks Chris, The carriages were very easy to assemble and most times press fit would hold them. But as always when you do it in front of a camera and talk talk at the same time, butter fingers get in the way and things do not go as planned. The joy of live video! Cheers.
Promo'SM 😠
You deserve a copper-clad medal for perseverance. The result is fabulous and greatly adds to the overall model. Please continue to inspire. Greetings from Canada.
Just starting and I watch your videos as I move along. VERY helpful. I see that the blueprints have an error in them. They list the middle and upper decks as 441 and 442 instead of 445 and 446. Strange! Thank you so much for taking the time to film, edit and post!
volevo sapere se qualcuno mi risponde di che marca è il Kit di Montaggio
Thanks for great video Paul. As always looking forward to see more. I do have question for you Paul. I am currently finishing my model Sovereign of Sea, amazing model, which I started in April 2023 and hopefully I'll finish it by April 2024, almost 2000 hours into it. My next model I am thinking about same what you have caldercraft hms victory. Can I ask where did you buy it from or where would you recommend to buy it from? I am guessing you are in UK. Thank you and can't wait to see more :)
I'm in Australia . I was lucky enough to get it from a local distributer 8 years ago ( they no longer sell it). It was 1400 AU back then. You can purchase direct from the Distributor Jotika. If in the Uk I'd go with Cornwall Model boats. Stay clear of cheap online dealers. Sometimes they come up on Model boat forums such as Ship of Scale. Its a big investment in time and cost, but you only live once. Just have to work out what to do with it when done.
@@paulvickers8015 thank you for reply Paul. I will buy it from Jotika as they are only 1 hour away from. i Think it's £1100 over here. I finished 5 lasrge scale model ships in past 4-5 years so victory would be nice to get. I strongly disagree with Cornwall model boats as they are extremely rude, they swearing at customers, never apologize and 99% of the time never respond to phone/email or messenger and the worst one is they taking stuff out of the box. I purchased £900 boat from them and so much was missing that I had to spend extra £200 to buy what they taken out and they just blamed supplier, but when i contacted supplier myself they confirmed there is no issue, so cornwall model boats started swearing at me and just abuse. Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. But jotika seems solid choice. Thank you
@@PUNISHERMARKO I've never hand an issue with them. Sorry to hear.
That looks great 🙂
Thank you, lot more to go yet.
looking amazing. well done Paul. can't wait to see more :)
Cheers. They wwill be a lot more frequent now the hard part is done.
Really cool ⛵
is the bending template part of the kit?
No it not. I have not seen any kit with tools provided. Thi is my 10th kit and the first one I used a plank bender on. Prior to that I used an old electric curling wand.
Hi Paul, Thanks you for showing us the how, just wondering for gun port linings, can you prebuilt the lining box and glue it in later as one unit. The port dimensions may vary from one to the other but hopefully it’s a larger piece to hold on for gluing. Thanks James
Hi James I suspect that pre building would be harder than fitting individual pieces. The lining is only 1mm x 4 and sits on a 1mm ledge internally,
hh! Knavdiged you needto take off.K is put after decorative claddind
Sltill copering. sowly, will be soon

@@paulvickers8015 you never uploaded anymore videos, I was looking forward to them. Did you stop with youtube?
@@paulvickers8015 ah sorry I just noticed you uploaded video, thank you. keep up amazing work Paul. cant wait to see it finished one day :)
hey Paul, how you doing with your model? you haven't done any videos recently. would love to see it
Where's part 8? :(
It coming, but 3000 Copper plates take time. It is also summer here in Australia so Beers & BBQ & Other half demands take precedence...
@@paulvickers8015thanks for the videos Paul. I am up to copper plates as well now.
Eta on next video? Great series 👏
Hmm Still got about t 400 of 3,000 copper plates to add. And its outdoor weather in AUS. so about a month maybe.
thanks for the reply i did not know about jotika , big help really appreciate
hi paul merryxamss btw, is your instruction are in Chinese or English ??
As its an Original Jotika / CC kit manuals are english. if you after the manuals they are available for download from Jotika.
Plans tell you to do that to the keel ?
yes its shown on plan bottom of plan 1 & page 3
bOlá amigo, onde adiquirir esse kit espetacular? sou do Brasil
Very Nice build Paul. Enjoying watching your build Vlog.
did you sand both sides of the keel for the sanding line, or just the side shown?
Both sides you need to reduce on bot sides for planking thinckness
did you cut a corresponding rabbet in the stem (55) and Keelson(56)?
Yep
Two bad the entire 1st layer is not done in sheets like gunport sheets
Did you finish yet. I built montane's 1:70 in 7 months. 3-4 hours a day.
ROFL Its a massive build Job. I'm working on the copper plates ( 3,000) of them.) One side done 92 hours.
Looking good
I'm looking for a 1:70 Victory to build to match my Montane's. All i see are 1:84
I know there are 1/78 but never seen a 1/70
The cc is 1:72 so very close
it´s realy coming together beatifuly :D I found your little series a few days back and realy like the way you present it to us. Hopefully one day i will be able to build something as impressive as this myself
Great videos Paul, I have just started the same kit. Thanks for the tips along the way much appreciated. Ron.
Where can i get this kit
Just bought this kit here in Australia for $1344 , From what I've seen not a bad price. 'm sure these videos will help me a lot with the build.
Great value, its a joy to build
I will watch #3 over again and this one to make sure I get the planking down. Thanks
Looking good
Looking good. Thanks for doing the videos on this build. I have 2 kits to build. ! from Panart and the other from Sergal. They do scare you when you open the box because there is so much. The planking scares me.
love all the video's so far Paul, can anyone say what's a good price for this kit? as it's given me the idea of getting myself one
Hi Thomas. I purchased mine about 8 years ago for $1,400 Aus. Its now close to $2000 AU. Its not a cheap kit, but given the suggested 3000+hours to build, its cheap entertainment.
@@paulvickers8015 Thanks for the heads up Paul and the very best of luck with your build, I will definitely be following your every move sir.
Awesome video's thanks a lot Paul. I will be starting mine mid next year.
Have fun its a great kit
Hi Paul, I'm an Italian guy and I need help from you, I'm also building the Victory 1: 100 scale by design, I would like help on a problem. Where should the side guns be mounted on deck level? Amati says nothing about the drawing! Please help me
Hi Alberto Th best ref I can recommend to you is the Mckay The 100-Gun Ship Victory (Anatomy of the Ship) book, which is in my library. Whist I cannot comment on their legality there appears to be several references to soft copies on the internet. Which deck are you referring to.

Having had this kit arrive on my doorstep just two days ago, I’ll be subscribing and scrutinising your videos for as much information as possible. In the meantime, it’ll have to wait for me to finish the Brig Badger :)
its a lot of fun but BIG!
One of the best wooden kits! I once built a HMBV Granado, and I think that Jotika is a very good manufacturer! Good luck with building!
Not sure if I missed a video or not but did the gun ports come pre-cut or did you have to cut them yourself using a template? thanks, its coming along nicely.
All the gun ports are on a precut ply templates. Planking starts below the ports. The second video shows these fitted.
@@paulvickers8015 ahh thankyou, I will take a look at that video
Hello, did the instructions tell you to do this or are you doing it just from experience?
Yes the deadwood info is provided both instructions & plans.
It sin the instructions & plans
One of the best explanations and demonstrations of planking I have seen. Very handy for someone like myself who is new to building wooden ships. Thanks.
Check out Chuck Passaro on RUclips for planking advice.
@@stevea2204 thanks , I will check it out
Glad it was helpful!. Whilst this is my way on this particular kit, everyone differs slightly and each time is a learning process. Remember this is a Triple Layer ( 2 wood + 1 copper, so in this instance it was more about getting the shape correct, not visability. IF it were single hulled, then more care would br tkane to shape every plank for a uniform finish.
I am planning on buying this model , will follow along with your build with a great deal of interest .
Tks. it will be a long process
