The BMFA's Drone Support Officer becomes a Guinness World Record Holder
Back in June 2024, Chris Bradbury, the BMFA's very own Drone Support Officer, became an official Guinness World Records Title Holder after setting a new record with his drones.
Chris set a new record for 'the most emoji formed by multirotor/drones in three minutes' with an official score of 30 emoji.
Chris hopes this new record will inspire the next generation to get creative and look into STEM based careers, as well as then in the future come back and beat his record.

    So what’s the point in having your phone or iPad hooked up to the drone if you always have to have it in your VOS? Also, it pretty much defeats the purpose of using a drone to find something that you can’t see with your own eyes or that is difficult to get to. There is no way that everyone continuously watches their drone with their own eyes. Completely ridiculous. Why make the distance of 500 feet when you can’t see your drone after about 300 feet? The FAA needs to make very clear rules that are black-and-white, not a bunch of vague gray areas.

    Chris, Andrew, I have just seen your presentation as searched for advice on start up. I can’t thank you enough. Also can’t believe how little comments have been made against the incredible sacrifice of your time. Many thanks for the direct support and guidance. I know how much has changed over the last 12 months, during which, I completed my A2CofC and GVC. Recently I completed my Business Plan and, just this week, my Opps manual so I can obtain the CAA approval. (Don’t need to send the manual now!,) Again. Many thanks to both of you. kind regards.

    @10:11 Peter asks Duncan about candidates having to memorise the entire BFMA Handbook when revising for Supplementary Questions. Duncan mentions that candidates should focus on Sections 8-24, but the current 2023 version of the BFMA Handbook finishes at Section 21. Please can you kindly confirm which sections of the 2023 BFMA Handbook candidates should focus on? Is it Sections 8-16?

    My apologies for not commenting sooner, but well done Martin. I was one of the examiners who took Martin for his 'B' Achievement Certificate when he was an early teenager and he's gone from strength to strength. His only weakness is that he's a self confessed chocaholic. Whenever he visits, I need notice to stock up. His unique enthusiasm for any jobs is infectious. Keep it up.

    Helicopters......................... no more than 70 yards away. Go figure. The whole thing is just a blanket approach to a poorly policed, woefully inexperienced policing effort. How many prosecutions for drone users? I'll tell you even if Callum won't - 0! That's right...................... 0. Go away CAA........................ just go away.

    With the number of bmfa members falling, how does the CAA come up with a prediction of 900,000 uas? Is Callum including commercial use? The illegal use of uas won’t have any flyer ID, insurance, remote ID,CAA registration. How are you going to catch those....you can’t, so to say “well we know the legal ones that are flying, therefore we can see the illegal ones....no you can’t

    There are 10,000’s of registered flyers and the CAA says there MAY-have been one or two prosecutions. How safe does Rc Flying need to be !!! The CAA have never emailed me or anyone I know about Rc safety The Chairman proves my point about my objection about Buckminster..a lot of money has been spent for very few members. Now the Chairman is arguing that more work needs to be with clubs to introduce people to Rc Flying. The investment spent at HQ should have gone to grass roots to encourage new people to join. But we are where we are.

    Keep on it BMFA. They clearly have taken no notice of the consultation and survey that we did, and probably have no intention of doing so. Allan thinks its happening in 2024 anyway. The idea that they think they can use my phone at my expense to comply with a system I disagree with is a bit of a bloody cheek. Trying to stay positive, but I feel this is already a lost cause.

    IMHO: A LARGE PIECE OF WINDOW GLASS, OR "LANINATED" MDF SHEETING, ON TOP OF A STURDY WOOD WORKBENCH, ETC., WOULD MAKE A GOOD WORK TABLE!... ....WHILE TRYING TO CALL OUT THE POSITION MARKERS,.. COORDINATE EACH HELPER, BY SETTING UP A "METRONOME, AT A SUITABLY SLOW RATE!... ....How about spanning along the trailing edge, with an epoxy saturated piece of pre-set, heavy braided fishing line...( tie up a suitable length of epoxy soaked, braided line, with a lead weight hanging at the bottom... let that cure/set, overnight... you'll have a nice thin trailing edge-corner strip/rail/ (akin to "spring steel music wire", but almost no weight!)..., which can help define the line, during further covering processes....

      Not on their land you can't no - You can overfly their land though. So if you stand outside their perimeter, you can control it from there and fly all over it without any problem (obviously with all the other provisos, must be within sight, not over crowds etc)

    Thanks for posting this guys, my late father Jim Boxley flew combat in the 60s and 70s and I've just framed the plans for his nationals wing, which he flew against Vernon Hunt and his Warlord. I have such happy memories of training flights on Highgate common with the whine of Oliver tigers and the smell of castor oil fuel filling the air. His team mate Pete Reeves could really fly, dad could design and build, and between them they encouraged a young lad, Mick Chilton to have a go.

    What is the point of repeating every manoeuvre in the B test that you successfully completed in the A test as well as doing all the checks again it’s obvious you know or you would have not passed the A test is it just to make the test seem worth while surely all that is needed is to take off and announce each type of loop, roll or spin manoeuvre before doing it everything else is irrelevant and unnecessary.

    • @BritishModelFlyingAssociation
      @BritishModelFlyingAssociation Год назад

      The A test manouvres are not repeated, all the checks are but you would do those at the start of any flying session anyway, and it is good to guard against complacency.

  • @heli-man-

    Doing a test also has its down side I have been flying for years and never done a test and recently decided to join a club and although I paid a joining fee and a club membership I am not allowed to fly at the club on my own until I have been able to complete a test when available examiners are able to attend so essentially paying out £100 pounds for a club I can’t use now I wish I didn’t bother and stuck to the park flying. I initially thought it would be a good idea just for a designated flying field but now feel the park suites me better with other friendly faces although sometimes it’s busy at weekends but I don’t need someone to hold my hand and assume they are a better pilot because I have not done the test it very contra sending.

    • @BritishModelFlyingAssociation
      @BritishModelFlyingAssociation Год назад

      Clubs have a duty of care to other members and the wider public and asking for a demonstration of ability and safety awareness is essential if they are to uphold this duty. If you have been flying for years you should very easily pass the test so its just a matter of getting it arranged with an examiner which shouldn't be too difficult.
