I Couldn't Focus, So I Made This

Concentrating is hard, so to help me get more done, I made this digital timer. The idea is to set a short, focused amount of time to get into some deep work, and take regular breaks. Having a visual indicator of the time really helps keep the momentum going. I probably could have used my phone or another device, but I wanted something custom made and dedicated to this purpose only - and it's ju...

    I always assumed that when you cnc'd a circuitboard that it cut away the traces, but it's actually the opposite - you cut AROUND the traces. This is the first time I've seen it clear enough to make sense. Also what tape did you use to hold that board down? It was like road tar or something when it came up! Did it take a long time to clean off?

    • @JustMakeIt_YT
      @JustMakeIt_YT 8 дней назад

      Yeah I thought the same thing, but you’re actually cutting around the traces. The tape was a 3M double sticky tape, I think some heat is generated in making the PCB so it became like that. It works really well though.

    @jj_0 Месяц назад

    Man, I'm sorry, but this hurt my soul. Why would you solder on the headers? If you design the whole case, why don't you create a place for the charging board to sit. If you are maker and create with electronic, buy more then one pice of the component so you can prototype and then have a clean product. I like you rugged design as well, but this had so much wasted space to fit all the the unnecessary pieces. You might not have a need to reuse, but please don't cut connectors clean off. Saving like a centimeter of wire to lose perfectly functional connector is not smart. I know all of this is not unusual here on youtube, but it does not make it right. I wish you the best and hope you will make much more, but you made me cringe as noone in a long time.

    what a nice project!! but there are 2 things i'm curious about: 1. does it always turn on (since i dont see a switch to turn it off) 2. does it take in consideration of the depth of that hole between the sensor? since it looks like there is a bit of space between the sensor, (bit behind the enclosure case) that might affect the accuracy. additionally, if i put a glass to protect the sensor, would it affect the sensor in anyway?? well that made it 3 things... nice project btw!!

    • @casbremer7793
      @casbremer7793 Месяц назад

      Ultrasonic sensors have a lot of noice. Further more, depending on the surface you are aiming it at it can disturb the reading or even not detecting it at all, just like when you are aiming the sensor at an angled surface. But the sensor he used also needs aan good surface

    • @JustMakeIt_YT

      I've tried ultrasonic sensors for other projects, and as the other commenter mentioned, I found them to be quite noisy. The ToF sensor was easier to use and gave more predictable readings. That being said, it does indeed require a good surface. Thanks for the comment!

    Recently discovered your channel, love the content & this is a fun lil project too! Wanted to share some quick tips re: your axle. I might recommend noting the printing orientation of your parts - that axle was snapping because the force it takes is in exactly the worst direction (vertical load splitting the part along its layer lines). Printing the axle on its side would have resulted in a much stronger part in this case (load perpendicular to the plane of solid layers). The connection between adjacent layers is always much weaker than the bond holding a solid single layer together along its planar length. Of course, an axle printed sideways would be trickier in terms of surface finish, supports, etc. If we want to keep the axle printed standing up, note that infill is mostly just providing a surface to enable bridging of higher layers - the majority of strength in a part comes from its walls/perimeters - increasing infill can help, but there are caveats. It's usually a best bet to simply increase your wall count! There are many great channels that have done in depth analysis of these kinds of factors if you're interested (Teaching Tech & CNC Kitchen are some classics, but search around and you'll find amazing resources & creators focusing on this kind of content). Just some things to keep in mind! Love the builds, big & small. Looking forward to what's next & seeing your channel grow!

    Quick soldering tip: in addition to what Andy Warb said, you can get better solder joints by pressing the iron to the opposite side of the pin, and then touching the solder to the pin (as opposed to touching the solder to the iron). Since the pin is wicking the solder itself as opposed to "stealing" the solder from the iron, it ensures that it's a bit fresher and helps ensure you get a perfect joint every time. Beyond that, congrats on the 2k! I've actually got a few of these matrices laying around waiting to be used in a project myself (albeit as a clock/presence sensor instead using ESPHome), and this was great for seeing ideas on how I could make it look. If you work with them again, I wonder how a darker acrylic sheet would look to help diffuse and dim the (stupidly bright) matrices.

    • @JustMakeIt_YT
