My late best friend and I were/are Doors/Ray Manzarek fans since about forever. We were just a bit too young to have seen the Doors but, we grew up in the LA area and every time Ray would play in town over the years we'd have to go see him. And even when I moved to the Sacramento area for a job, when Ray was in town, I'd be there. He was such a gentleman, and one hell of a nice guy. It does still hurt that he's moved on.

What a rich music history he has. David was there form the beginning and in the midst of the music revolution that took off in the mid '60s. Quicksilver Messenger Service is one of the most underrated bands except by those who were fortunate enough to have experienced first hand, even if from a distance, the magic of the music contemporary to the events and time of its creation. Great stuff. Love you David. Keep on rockin'.

Rock royalty...can't think of how many records i still have with david on a number of different instruments...he's one of those guys, like pete sears, who i would immediately have in my dream band...i don't think he ever missed a beat in his career...after my breakdown in '83 when I didn't listen to rock for 7 years...him and the gang- paul, slick aguilar, sears were still playing.....they really helped me pull it together, and a treat was seeing david at some bad-ass hippie festies in the 2000;s and b.b. kings club...was too young for quicksilver- your lucky!

waite is lying about the origin of the babies. he was not a vocalist when michael corby and adrian millar hired him. he was hired as the bass player only. it was corby who eventually recognized waite's potential as a vocalist - millar was against it. waite also states that corby and millar had "nothing," which is another lie. corby and millar financed the band and put waite, brock, and stocker on a weekly wage. millar (and later, corby) owned the name of the band for 25 years. he also claims that corby et al. had no songs. one listen to the official unofficial babys album (a collection of early demos) blows this claim to hell as well. corby had written the excellent "jack the lad" in its entirety, as well as the music for future babys classics such as "i'm falling" and "and if you could see me fly." waite was extremely jealous of corby because corby was such a popular member of the babys - he got 90% of the fanmail. he tried for several years to have corby booted, to no avail. the label, chrysalis, knew that corby was good for business. according to sources close to the band at the time, waite allegedly went as far as to have an affair with chrysalis president, terry ellis. the straw that broke the camel's back is when ellis caught wind of corby's plan to have his lawyer's conduct an audit on chrysalis for nonpayment of royalties due to the babys - and this he did with the full knowledge and support of waite and the other two members, tony brock and walt stocker. it is believed that waite is the one who informed ellis of corby's plan to audit the label, and within two days of discussing the audit with waite, corby was ousted from his own band. at the time, the band had just turned in their latest album, head first, to chrysalis, and the label rejected it with one of the demands being that corby be ousted. later, corby claims that it was revealed to him that terry ellis was very concerned about the audit that corby and his lawyers had planned for the label. as it turned out, a couple of years later, ellis was charged in the massive bootleg/counterfeit bust that rocked the music industry in the late '70s and early '80s. it appears that corby had very nearly and unwittingly stepped into a hornet's nest, and it cost him his career and family. to this day, corby claims that he was illegally ousted from his own band - a band that he started with manager adrian miller and which he was the only "executive" member and who had legal ownership of the band name at the time he was dismissed. it is a very suspicious situation when one considers that corby was not employed by the label, but was merely under contract with the label through the band. how could corby be "fired" when he was not employed by chrysalis? corby claims that ellis and chrysalis threatened the other members of the babys with their careers if they did not go along with their demand that corby be ousted.
