Always a pleasure to ty Spey flies:) The bronze mallard for the wings is a fantastic feather to work with. Tinsel, silk, guinea feather and heron hackle are the other materials. For more security can one of the tinsel wrap in the opposite direction of the other. This fly will be with me in my box this summer :)

Fly tying a Dry fly, hackle work and peacock quills with Fabien Moulin

Hackle and peacock are to beautiful materials to work with . To have an compact and tidy hackle you need to clean the one side of the feather before tying. The peacock quills need to be moistened or damp before tying, on this way it will not break so easy. Enjoy the video and let me know if you want more dry flies videos!!

Great looking fly m8!❤❤
Killer fly,, can you send me the materials list?
Hi Fabien, Do you still have your Instagram account?
Hi, no I don’t have any social media accounts longer. Life is unpredictable and sometimes makes it impossible to find the time … I still tie thousands of flies for my own fishing and my passion is intact! I am on the tying table almost every day like before… If you have a question just ask me:)
I feel like this tying video could benefit from some death metal backing music...
Great video. Like you mentioned it would be great to speak but it would also be great if you could list the material too.
Tusen takk for dine fine ord👍👊🙏

Здравствуйте, интересная модель, в каком регионе вы живёте? Какая рыба предпочитает Ваши авторские мухи? Думаю что это будет кушать рыбы на всех широтах в пресной воде, лососи всех пород. С уважением Bolat.
awesome fly....
Thank you👍👊
Nydelig fluebinding. 👍
Tusen takk👍
Beautiful!
Thank you so much 👍👊
Hi Fabien, After two years I see that you are showing a nice series from the RAT. In the comments below I read that you use the Partridge Patriot hook for the Blue Rat. I have a curious question about this. What hook size do you use for this? I am very grateful for your response.
Hi, mostly this are tied in 4 or 6 for display and sometime 2. But when it’s for my own fishing, I use to tie them smaller, like 8 or 10. Don’t forget that not only the size of the hook is important but the amount of materials you take on it. Clear weather and water, less materials… I hope I could help you, if not let me know;)
@@1973fafo Thank you very much for this detailed information. This helps me a lot...
Thank you so much much for sharing this video. Very pleasant and and still a beautiful fly in this conditions. Amazing
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that !!!
Pardon my ignorance but what part of the mallard are you using for the wings? Is it flank or from the wing itself? Thanks.
Incredible tie. That said, not my thing. When I think spey fly, I think less is more. winced a couple times.
Beautiful ties 👍
Thank you very much 👍😊
Amazing work!
Thank you, much appreciated 👍🙏
Well done sir.
Thank you:)
Hi Fabien, I'm coming back to this video after 2 years. What hook are you using on the rats? Is it a Partridge Patriot?
Yes that’s correct 👍
Nice if you could explain what you are doing
But beautiful pattern
Beautiful fly
Thank you so much 👍👊
WHY don't you/anybody but me just hold the thread with your fingers onto the shank, when you start, so you don't have to clip the snip off?
I don’t know;)
@@1973fafo I suggest, that you try my way, next time you tie a fly - very well I'll add. Not that you will save many seconds resulting in many more flies over a life time, but once I had learned to do "work time studies" where we figured out, how much a company could earn more, by moving the tools, so the worker didn't have to reach as far after them aso, I haven't been good at wasting time, without thinking over it.. A bit nerdy, I know.. :D I'm also pretty good at it (never learned those wings though - hard to learn from books alone, and I didn't have access to the internet or anyone who tied, when I still tied) and I watch videos "just" as meditation now.
@@1973fafo You can actually ALSO save an inch of thread pr fly.. :P
Great work! Very neat tying.
Thank you so much 👍🙏
My favorite fly for trout. 👏👏
Tusen takk Eivind! Ja de er kult å binde og å fiske med:)

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate that ! Fly tying and fly fishing are my passion and I just enjoy every minute on the vise !
Very nice!

I absolutely love your wings and the style you incorporate, but for the life of me, they do not look like Bronze Mallard! What am I missing?
Thank you! The wings are bronze mallard!

Hello Fabien...This is a awesome fly...i love this one. Wich Size hook do you use for this fly.? Many thanks for your answer.
Thank you very much!!! On this video the hook is a TG salmon fly hook size1/0
Shadowbox. Beautiful. Been looking for sparse patterns.
Thank you very much! Yes this one is very sparse! If you want to help the wings to be more strong and that they are more in place, you can take some hair under the feather 👍
@@1973fafo Here on the Upper Columbia River in BC, Canada, the fish like them as sparse as you can tie them.
You've inspired me to tie the Rat series. Your pictures are beautiful but can you give me a source for the recipe of materials for each? Thank you greatly.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate that! In the book called “ the complete illustrated directory of salmon flies” you will find the recepite of those flies. You can also send me a message on messenger and we take it from there👍
I find it interesting that several flies in the series don't contain what I feel differentiate the Rats from other streamers, namely the sword tail, herl 1/2 body, and floss underwing. Just my opinion. I'm going to tie the group with only rear body segment, tinsel, and a few hackle changes to stay more "Ratty". Ha Ha!
Very well done. The perfect muffler. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely beautiful fly. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate that 👍
The way that hackle went from grizzly to brown made me mad and i dont know why…
indeed making married wings is what makes or brakes a classic salmon fly.
Thank you very much 👍
love this fly, love the peacock feather wing
Thank you very much for your kind words 👍👍
Beautiful fly
Thank you very much👍
That's cool. Thank you for showing me a simple tie using only simple materials.
You’re welcome 😉👍👍
Very nice and no plastic stuff.
Yes, thank you very much 👍👍
Great pattern. Thank you very much!
You’re welcome 👍👊
I have the Petitjean Master and the Stonfo Transformer.... the Stonfo is a nicer vice to use, but I love the function of the Petitjean where you can clamp to the table and angle the vice towards you.... now if stonfo could make an attachment that did that, the Transformer would be unrivalled, IMO.
Yes Stonfo Tranformer is the best vice in the marked! Due some health and private issue I have stopped my collaboration with almost all the brands. Take contact with themes with an email or a dm in Instagram, Stonfo is a very serious brand with fantastic people and I am sure that you will receive an answer. I know from before that they have one that you can combine and clamp to the table. I don’t have my Instagram account or Facebook longer, ( I can’t do that for you) so you just need to send a DM to their account on Instagram. Great that you like the Stonfo, I have tied many thousands of flies with and after several years it work like the first day:) I hope this help you!
I like it , easy tie with readily available materials. Thanks for the video
You are very welcome 🙏
Nice
🙏 Thank you very much
Hi Fabien! Very clean! I like how easily you attach your wings! What do you use as an applicator for your head cement? Have a nice day!
Thank you very much for the compliment!!! The head of all my salmon flies and wet flies are done with one time superglue like zap a gap and after that four or five times head cement. This is a very old fashion to do it but a very durable and hard way to do it. Now that days people often use uv-glue and…. but this is not good. Take a bit of time to do it but again you will use the flies longer👍👊
Nice tying, nice pattern.
Thank you very much 😊👍
That's a great looking fly! I like how simple it is in appearance, very modern and easy-looking to tie. Definitely trying it.
You’re welcome and thank you very much for your kind words;)
