I stand with Dr. Phil. The people who exploited Shelley are the fans that tried to force her to be a victim. All people ever said about her is “poor Shelley and her treatment on the shining” Despite the fact she spoke highly of Kubrick and appreciated the experience. That is not a victim. I have a mother was mentally ill and severely. I didn't get the feeling he was exploiting her. I felt he was concerned and he did in fact try to get her help. I agree one thousand percent, that families must get educated. We need to teach about mental health in high school just like any other health education topic. I was also a case manger and i can tell you too often families are a major issue. I had mothers of adult children coerce thier children to such a point that they get them not to take much needed medications due to the guilt they feel. I had one mother tell me she just thought her daugther was lazy when I told her that her daugther's affect and lack of motivation are symptoms. Even others in the industry too often pass judgement when they are seeing symptoms that need help, not judgement. May Shelly rest in peace, like my mother.

Because someone has a mental illness and the other individual knows nothing about them. It would have any person all over the place. Because the victim was the person being harassed. The empathy given to someone white and not the black person isn't a surprise to me. For someone to send you pictures of themselves isn't ok. It wasn't for the black girl to figure out what was wrong with the other person. You don't send pictures of yourself to someone you don't know. This was to show the empathy towards white people.
