Great musician, great personality and quite possibly one of the most underrated alto sax players in the history of jazz. Rest in peace.
Among other attributes, jazz should be joyful.Lou personified that as well as anyone ever has.R.I.P.
ANother great has transitioned. Thank you sir for all the music you left us. RIP beautiful man.
How incredible that he remembers these stories like it was yesterday. What an incredible man and musician. REST IN POWER !!!
I would not diminish Art Blakely's contribution to jazz ,one bit ,he is not hear to say who really was on first base with the permances of this extradinary recordings and not to diminsh Mr. Donaldson's history at all .
Art Blakey is certainly one of the best, beautiful drummer and legacy
WONDERFUL! I remember Lou holding court at Joe Segal's Jazz Showcase in the '90s. Pianist Ethan Iverson has a great tribute and remembrance on his Substack.
RIP.. so brilliant
RIP
RIP Sweet Poppa Lou legend!!
RIP DEAR LOU

In my Miles voice, "that's whatcha do when you're on top."
How the hell does Miles steal a musician lol, it's Miles Davis and that musician left to play with Him.
The opening tune is "Love Letters"
He stole a lot more than that 😂
Amazing interview! Some new details and perspectives from Lieb about that time period with Miles.
What a great interview.. and I totally relate to what he was saying… I watched him as well for 5 1/2 years.. different situation but still there was so much to learn.. and I still use those lessons..
awesome
Thank you Michael Cuscuna for what you done. Thank you to the person that documented this and released it on you tube.

R.I.P. Michael Cuscuna. Thank you for making the world a better sounding place!
Any more of this interview going to be published? Or a transcript online? I am really interested to hear everything from this brilliant man who has so much enriched the legacies of countless jazz greats.
I appreciate your interest. this clip is for documentary purposes. hopefully, it will come out in the near future,
Thank you Lou Donaldson💜🎶🎶🎶
I love listening to true artists speak. What honesty, charm, and levity on top of such great advice ❤.
mac bride tjrs incroyable !!!
Perfectly fine and understandable. I'm English. The guy seems to have a lung condition. Some people do.
The sound is just so horrible. You can't hear anything from your whispering rasp. Not even closed caption works. This. From a record producer.
CC works for me, and so do my ears. He's an interesting geezer.
Thank you
Is this really the only footage of this concert?! I need to see the rest!
The concert was 5 HOURS long!!!! here are 2 other clips from that night. I was there.... OMG!! so many greats showed up....by surprise too.....and everyone brought their A game..... incredible show. I hope it gets released at some point. ruclips.net/video/lhywnI_ltvM/видео.htmlsi=DUkn9iFeNFMjhMSw and ruclips.net/video/W41LC49sbV0/видео.htmlsi=llDq4AYuX-VyLf1F
Bless him. 97 years old this year. What a character, what a musician.
Passed away Nov.9 2024. Eight days after his 98th birthday.
Funny like i fell in love with both Sullivan and Cécile in the same week (him with Peter Bernstein I think), then discovering them as musical partners, and sentimental ones too. Both amazing original artists, without a doubt my favourite contemporary singer and pianist ❤ separately and together
How did you know they were together romantically ? (If its what you want to say with « sentimentally »)
@@juliavialette Sullivan mentioned it, I think in his interview by Emmet Cohen. I'm such a gossip :(
@@HenriDucrocq omg ! Thank you so much !!
THANK YOU… ! !
I’m getting some of the best advice on singing here. Great stuff! We need to hear more!
The Mans a Weapon
Fantastic interview! Love ya Lieb!
yeah lieb !! solid !!
Love your playing, Richie.
Stole the gig from who? It sounded like he said stole the gig from Sade, but that's not right.
Rick Beato just released great new interview at Keith's house and it shows listening in his living room. Keith sits in the very middle between speakers. Anyone know what speakers they are in that interview ? You only get a brief look at the top of the left speaker, over Keiths shoulder.
That business with him standing behind you with arms folded sounds as if it were meant to intimidate. Keith looks and acts like an irritable music teacher more than anything. Any disruption, however faint, among the class...I mean, audience...will result in his thumping the lid down and demanding to know who made that noise and if they fancy a week of detentions. "We're not going on with the lesson...I mean concert...until the offender stands up".
@dfasht eek, I'll have you know I'm still pretty handy with an organ.
Can't stand coughing either. Becomes an unwanted part of the performance. And if recorded will be there forever.
@@PimpinBassie2 he cant stand anything really.
Brilliant!
Amazing interview
Great couple ❤
Brian Blade. That’s all
