"Real Fake War" is a SCAD Documentary thesis film directed by Tommy Dilger.
Logline: Can a combat veteran find therapy and purpose through war reenacting?
My thesis film "Real Fake War" tells the story of TJ Truax, who joined the Marine Corps after graduating high school and was sent to Afghanistan in 2013. Upon his return and eventual discharge, he struggles to make sense of what he experienced and find a purpose in civilian life. He finds it in a hobby he’s enjoyed since high school - war reenacting. With a new view on true nature of war, TJ uses this outlet to teach about conflicts of the past and find a sense of belonging among his fellow reenactors, which ...

I shot this video in June of 2023 at Operation Imperial Lake, a Vietnam War reenactment held in southern Ohio. The event takes place in April of 1971, following the actions of the 1st Marine Division. I decided to model my video off of news reports of the period, doing my best to keep everything as accurate as possible. I hope you all enjoy! CONTACT ME: TPD1Productions@gmail.com LINKTREE: linkt...

I decided to make this video public, so I hope you enjoy! By the way, it was filmed back in October, see if you can spot the Halloween decorations.

She's Mine (Focal Point 2019 Short Film)
I'm interesting in donating but also working in it, I'm a filmmaker with a couple short films under my belt. I'm also a reenactor, Staff Sergeant, Easy Company, 506th PIR.
Sounds interesting I don’t really have money for that but hope it works out!
get what you get zogbot
The ship photos should be uploaded to wikipedia, there's no actual photos of the City of Detroit III on there!
Awesome videos! 5 combat tours here from Bosnia, 2 in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan as a Forward Observer, LRSU and Combat Support Military Police. Retired, Now train Service Dogs and play airsoft to help with PTSD. Keep the videos coming.
The Skip Liberty DVD was fantastic! I'm really excited to hear TJ's story.
I can 100% relate to this, I also served in the Marine Corps and in Iraq from 2017-2018. Living History has helped me through my depression and other issues i've dealt with since I got out and it brings back that brotherhood and sense of purpose. Thank you for telling this story
SUPER helpful. Thanks for sharing it! I've seen many overviews of this camera, but none as simple, engaging or informative as this one. I just learned to load a Grafmatic, dug back out my old 12-sheet development tank (just like yours), and am contemplating getting a 4x5 that's a little faster to use than my monorail. This appears to be the solution!
Awesome job 👍 guys!
I got this camera at a garage sale for $2 :) the lady basically gave it away. Thanks for this video teaching how to use it!
What black and white film would you suggest using?
Why would you smoke cigarettes when the enemy is stalking you?
I got my first Argus at a flea market for $1.00 Fantastic piece of American engineering. I have probably a couple dozen cameras, but it has become my "daily driver" due to how robust and reliable it is. That, and the 35mm lens is fantastic.
That was my first rangefinder and one of my first mechanical cameras. Not sure why I don’t have it anymore. I actually liked that people would laugh at my camera when I brought it out. Good conversation piece.
Please ditch the music.
I never have seen sharpshooters in the trees, that's pretty cool
Really good. The narrator is awesome
This is nice. Me and my brother recently got a 16mm Filmo 70DL camera and we’re gonna shoot some film on the USS Lexington for our 17th birthday. Thanks for this video i couldn’t find anything in b&w that was reliable as this one. Thanks again👍🙂
call in that artilley
TWO WEEKS, TWO WEEKS TWO WEEKS.
why is there a union sharpshooter fighting for the confederacy?
Because they are all Trumper/Fascist MAGA morons.
How did you make the falling effect?? It looks cool!
Excellent! Looks and feels quite real.
Nothing about this is correct...
What do you mean?
@@Grünerwagen Well just look at it. You have people running around in incorrect uniforms, improper formations, not to mention the dude in the freaking tree! Aside from the few guys that were on the federal side, it was completely farb
@@TransMissCampaigner1864 yeah now that you point it out I see that
@@Grünerwageni see a union sharpshooter fighting on the confederacy at the timestamp 1:00 i think
Wow! Thank you so much! I was there as a Confederate Soldier ( 05:08). Great video and footage. See you at Fort Clinch!
honestly, if you shoot one of these cameras at f4 you can get an interesting bokeh effect that I haven't really seen on other lenses
I just won a Golden Shield model from an auction last night for $36 and stumbled upon this video in my research. Very well made, thank you!
What a score! I've been trying to get my hands on one for some time now
When u find cameras like this at estate sales, do you typically find ones that are in working order? Or do u have to fix them yourself? And if it's the latter, how have you been able to figure that out? Thanks!
Nice video. Thanks. I will be using my Argus C3 for WW2 reenactment.
dude! thank you so much. my friend is selling a Kodak M18 and i gasped because i wanted it so much. this helps. thanks!
I could not tell the difference if this was a real news clip or not! Excellent work!
What a story. Love it. Movie material.
I really wanna attend this this year
By 1970 Im sure Marines weren't issued M-14's which most preferred over the M-16A1..
Also can use interchangeable lenses.
It's been used in a few movies because of itsSeampunk look.
quite a bit of action on the field *LIKED* and *SUBSCRIBED* -- sending you a personal invite to checkout our groups as well.
1:00 "They're in the trees!!"
Amazing!
I wanted to fly out to see this at the film festival so bad. Thank you for preserving history.
Have you been able to see the film yet?
@@TPDProductions Not yet, planning on buying the DVD!
I hope you enjoy the film, definitely let me know what you think!
Any updates on a release?
The film is now available to stream on HistoryFix! Here’s a link: historyfix.com/buy?campaign=TPDProd
Holy hell this is incredible. What kind of camera did you use for this and where was this shot?
Tarawa was no joke. It was pure Hell
You're right!
Nice work, looks great
Excellent Tommy!!!
Great job filming Tommy!! Your team did an excellent job at acting like they were under fire too
Love the attention to detail and the unit cohesion you guys have in the video
Ok you guys could drop the volume and add an old grainy black and white filter and pass this off as historical footage. The attention too detail is insane. Damn fine job
Hans, are we the bad guys?
One of the more immersive and good looking units i’ve seen, good job
