“Unfortunately Mr Carter you and I both know that for some of these kids, this basketball season will be the highlight of their lives!” Ok then what, what happens to them when the season’s over and they’ve failed high school? They’d be on a very slippery slope, difficultly getting employment, any job they do get would be low paying low entry level. The frustrating thing about most of the adults is they couldn’t look at the bigger picture.

What I like is the primary and secondary messages. The primary being that school sport success is unlikely to lead to later life success. His methods give them the building blocks to develop as people academically. This then leads to the secondary message of acccountability to others. These contracts empowered the boys to perform an act that benefitted their team. They all agreed to gain good school grades, failing to do so means not playing and thus weakening the team. They came together as a team to make sure they all got grades before they could play. It's an important mindset to be in where you think internally 'what can I do to help others'. You become better a person as a result when that becomes the default thought process.

I like this scene because it highlights what's wrong with public schools these days: lack of accountability. All the players had to do was make the grades and stay out of trouble. Coach Carter challenged them academically and told them they could go to college. You then see the players hold themselves accountable when they're doing homework in the gym.

Coach Carter is a model coach. I’d stand by him; the media stood by the principal. He teaches the public to focus on academic performance. I’d vote to keep the lockout like the judge herself would. People like Coach Carter are just what society needs. He believed in a better future for the team. He taught each member of the team that their future lies beyond the basketball gymnasium.

And true to life, the parents are all for the status quo if it gives them tangible results and instant gratification. It's a lot like cleaning a messy room, it doesn't look like you are making any progress until the job is mostly done. Even if it doesn't look like it, you're still making progress every step of the way, and at the end you get the best reward of all, you just have to be while to go through with all those other times.

I love how he points out the double standard of white people vs black people use the word nigger, words don't change meaning depending on the person saying it, either it's a derogatory term or not. To Quote this one parent (link below) "Racism in America would be by and large dead today if it were not for certain people and institutions keeping it on life support", and the mere idea of not only black people want to use that word in the first place as well as say that only they can use it, is the same insulting elitist kind of thinking that lead to slavery in the first place. ruclips.net/video/DvG4Q-yFwcU/видео.html

@@prettynerd4779 “The biggest thing about ignorance is it knows no limits.” … LOL Sorry I'm not sorry to knock you off your soap box there but, when did I ever say "all black people" or even use the word “misconception” in my post? (Chuckle) Are you sure you are responding to my post, or did you accidently post it under mine even though yours actually has little to nothing to do with what I said? Since I’m here anyway let me clear up those points of yours… 1. “No the misconception is that all black people use it and we DON’T” Yeah I know, that’s why I didn’t say it, however it is said by enough people for it to be considered a problem, and don’t pretend it isn’t since people get in trouble all the time for just saying it, even if it is a part of a song lyric. www.independent.co.uk/voices/piers-morgan-n-word-kanye-west-racism-rap-music-white-sorority-girls-alpha-phi-university-new-hampshire-black-people-sisters-sing-a7961461.html atlantablackstar.com/2021/02/03/country-singer-morgan-wallen-is-caught-on-video-saying-the-n-word-his-music-and-image-wiped-from-radio-and-streaming-services/ 2. “The MAJORITY of black people actually don't use it.. just some high profile black people ( aka rappers) and some black people in urban areas” The actually amount of black people that say Tigger with an “N” and a silent T is irrelevant. While It’s most likely it’s a vocal minority, the point still is that some people do and it’s not okay regardless of what your skin color is.

I’m an Athletic Director and tutoring is mandatory if you’re failing one class! We are doing nothing more than enabling kids if we let them play if they are not passing their classes! Effecting change starts with accountability and it’s not easy at a public school because these kids are set up to fail!

I also recognized that for example, if they want me to stay after school because I wasn't suppose to do something that is not part of the school policy, I reluctantly did comply with it because at first, I was not sure if I should listen to it, but even if I didn't comply with it, it could have gone either way. Obviously, even though I am not in high school anymore, I hope we realize that doing something that is harmful in our life, it could lead to one thing after another. I am sure we do not see it this way until we start doing it.
