Replacing Diesel Heater after 5 years. What happened to it?

Replacing Diesel Heater after 5 years. What happened to it?
I have a 5000 watt ceiling fan on 220 v and it is'nt enough to heat the garage on it's own when the temperature drops below 0 C. Plus it cost an arm and a leg in electricity. So I have a diesel, kerosene 135000 btu heater like you have on the floor and that heats up in no time and is'nt expensive to run. The problem is the fumes. I've seen diesel heaters like the one under your desk but is it enough on it's own to heat and maintain a reasonable temp.ex.15 C ? I have a 16 X 24 insulated garage unfortunately when I had it built I did'nt get the cement floor insulated, I regret. Thanks for sharing your experience with different heaters, I was about to change my diesel heater for propane. Now I know better.
5,000W electric heater is 17065 BTUs, and a 5KW Chinese diesel heater is 17060 BTUs. Theoretically it should work.
A simple little Mini-split would have been so much easier and cost effective at this point!
32 years ago, Mini split's were not a thing. I am considering it now , lifespan is around 12 years on the small mini splits.
I don’t get why someone wouldn’t get a garage heater, which is an enclosed electric coil with a fan behind. This is what they’re for. I have one. It’s 27 amps at 240, 5700 watts and works very well. I bought it from Nothern Tool almost ten years ago. It cost $99. I think it’s maybe $125 now. I don’t understand the fetish over liquid and gas fuels for heaters. All of these are dangerous in one way or the other. Don’t use propane heaters in an enclosed space. It’s very unhealthy.
Cost of electricity, here $0.55 KW. I poorly insulated garage would cost around $360 on a cold month to run.
2024 Merry Christmas and happy new year. Im new owner of snow blower. This video help a lot thank you sir.
Merry Christmas to you too! I hope your snow blower will start first time this year.
Simple C to F formula even I can remember. Take your 15 degrees C . Double it, 30 degrees. Remove 10% of your 30 degrees, 3, or whatever your total is depending on your temp C you started with. Take your 27 degrees and add 32 degrees. Hope it helps, like I said if I can remember it, it must be simple.
What I know, 0 C water freezes, 100 C water boils, 21.5 C is a good temperature to set the furnace in winter. 24 C is a good temperature to set the AC in summer. What I am getting at is, I know how Celsius feels, Fahrenheit not so much. If somebody said, it is 27 F outside, I would not know how cold that is or what to wear. (yes, I could do the math -2.7C) The hard thing is when someone says it's 27 outside, I need to think, where is he/she if from.
I found a new holder for my paper towels.
Harlan Williams?
Merry Christmas, good video.
Merry Christmas to you too.
Would appreciate if shots were in close up view so we could understand what you're trying to point out whenever you describe the steps.
I now use multiple cameras so I can get better shots. It takes longer to edit, but makes a better video. Here is an examples. ruclips.net/video/XD5JSEnSats/видео.html
Mr. Cool.
One day I may install one.
@FRUGALWITHJOHN Love mine. Very efficient and quiet. Price isn't bad if you install yourself.
The wood stoves the best way to the cheapest way you're not insulated to the hill so you need cheap heat
It is one of the options I tested out in the video, I prefer to use a diesel heater now.
Just get a mini split. Itll do everything and anything you need.
When I started heating the garage, there was no such thing as a min split that worked below 5 C/ 41 F. I may put one in now??
Just put on some bigger back wheels
That's alot of expensive diesel
Yes it is, -20 C/-4 F right now, the heater is set on 1 just to keep it above freezing.
add black pvc tube to the out put ducting to make a duct to carry the heat more put 1 in holes ever foot on the 1/2 foot to make blow all around you shop
Use the same heating system you use for your living space.. Good enough for inside heat good enough for the garage.
House and garage are not attached. The house furnace had a malfunction last night, I will be looking into that today
get a 35 amp power supply i got rid of my battery cause they can be dangerous too
It's about being Frugal, I already have a battery and a battery charger. The battery is for my camper in the summer, and it needs to be charged anyway from time to time in the winter.
Works good, thanks for the info.
It should keep your compressor working for a long time.
The best option is a natural gas or propane vented exhaust such as mr. heater big maxx. For my garages I use natural gas 75k btu in one and an 80k btu in the other garage. Work great. I turn them down to 35 deg. when im not working and around 50 deg. when im working. Can reach 90+ deg. on a - 20 deg. day. No fumes, no problems. Easy and thermostat controlled.
I love the shirt you always wear as a former service member USAF I value wearing quality shirts like a uniform . Regards from Louisiana , USA!
I appreciate you sharing this information!
Glad I could help.
Did he say to disconnect the spark-plug wire from the spark-plug or did I just miss that?
You missed it, always disconnect the spark plug when you don't want things to move unexpectedly.
@ Great, nobody wants to loose fingers. And you’re right, I miss a lot.😊
Those little diesel heaters are a life saver.....5 stars..
I was using a 75K torpedo to heat the shop (20x30 w/12' walls and 15' ceiling). The wife came in and showed great displeasure over the noise and threat of CO poisoning. She didn't care that I'd been using it for decades. She insisted I buy electric heat, so that's what my son and I did last weekend. We installed a 6KW 240V commercial heater 8' up between the 2 bay doors along with a thermostat set at 50 degrees. It's just enough to break the chill at night and I can turn it up when I'm inside the shop.
My GF does not like my torpedo heater either, thanks for watching.
So....the Frankensteined diesel heater worked the best in your situation. Thanks.
That one works good, so far.
Comment faire pour que le projecteur détecte les mouvements et allume les lumières svp m’aider et. merci!
Je ne l'ai jamais testé, je l'ai renvoyé à Home Depot
Epa will be after these heaters next. And theyll have def tanks on em for 2026. 😂
lol
Yes, I can work on cars next to a wood stove. There's nothing wrong with that.
Wood stove in your garage is fine, (a little dangerous) if you do not insure your property. Insurance companies will not pay if you have a fire .
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN it's not dangerous, especially now with all the flame resistant building materials. It's the cheapest and safest option. Insurance maybe true. Don't tell them.
1st 15.5min background Now we're finnally getting what I needed2 know. TYVM
The diesel heater banging in the background!!!
You can hear it in all my videos made in the winter, it works good.
You should try a furnace, they work really well...
Many different options were discussing in the video about using a furnace. I have one I can hook up to natural gas or propane, cost is a factor.
@FRUGALWITHJOHN an efficient furnace is 100% cheaper than anything electric or portable. Especially a natural gas 1
Does the Honda service manuel describe the process to do this?
Honda service manual says, don't do this. Honda says, hydraulic oil last the life of a machine. I prefer to choose the life of the machine, not Honda. The life of the hydraulic system is closely tied to the life of the oil.
I have a 42x36 shop that is ekevated thirty inches higher than the parent building with a wood floor. I cordirned off a tinker area of about 14x8 with a tarp wall and two foors from a sliding door takeout. Electric heater for that area I beat the redt of the shop with s pellet stove that takes a while to get started and hests for about five dollars for eight hours. Pellet stoves are forced draft with a twinin h intake pipe and a three inch exhaust. A good pressure balanced set-up. You can usually find s good stove like sn Englander for about 4 hundred. They can be dhut fown safely as the pellit feed shuts off and the stove only shuts down when the temp sensor tells it is safe and the fure is out I could see using a Diesel heater to get the temp up snd the pellet stove once it reaches temperature. I wouuld say that insurance should at least permit use of s pellet stove, but you need vommon sense and not go away from the house in case of a power outage creating s smoke show as the pellets could bavk. burn into the fuel reservoir.
Intake and exhaust are inches away from each other...think about that
It is 14", code is 12" here. intake is also lower but should be a few more inches. Heat rises. It has been like that for over 7 years with no issues.
Hard to watch this video
Getting better, using a different camera now. I also set that camera in manual mode now when I use it. Massive learning curve. Thanks for your feedback.
Best way is wisbow heated floor. Way warmer and dryer.
You could have converted the gas furnace to propane and got a 500 gallon tank. Also we have a ICF house with a foam roof deck. Basically air tight. Making a negative pressure in the house is a good thing.
I've been using kerosene radiant heaters for 30 years. Since the price went up I've been using the stuff I got with the heaters. At only .08 gallons per hour I can go all winter on a few gallons
At the very end of the video, you can see my old Kerosene heater, must be 40+ years old, was my dad's.
Best bet would have been a mini split. If your Chinese diesel keeps the place at temperature, it means you only need about 15,000 btu.
The diesel heater does a good job for now, one day I may install a mini split.
The GE I took out, I had for 15 years, (I got it used for free) I did replace the pump assembly a few years ago plus one other minor repair. The new Midea was $250 plus tax, Considering they make a lot of dishwashers for North American companies, brands such as GE, Whirlpool... I look at it this way, Midea makes GE, so I bought another GE dishwasher for 1/2 the price. The cheapest GE dishwasher around here is over $500 plus tax. (Nowadays everything has built-in obsolescent) Thing don't last as long, so I can't justify spending a lot of money for an appliance with a five year life span (possibly 10 years). I believe all appliances should have a minimum 20 year lifespan.
Natural gas is my go to heating source. That’s just me
I am not kidding when I say I've had 5 dishwashers over the last 10-12 years. I've had Maytags, Whirlpool, Samsung, Bosch, etc. All garbage, even when you spend over $1K. Our newest one, a Samsung, have had service come out 4 times already for various parts replacement. A royal pain having to wait for them to show up. We use our dishwasher twice a day, every day, so it gets alot more use then someone who uses it not as often.

Was looking at a mint HS724 in Ontario. for $3000 ouch! but new they're $4500. This used machine in tempting but geezz that's a ton of money. They're built like a tank!
I prefer Wheels over tracks, they do have some advantages but are hard to move around.
Ductless mini split is the way to go.
I use a propane heater in my garage right now, I’m thinking of having a company install a gas heater since it’s right next to the meter anyways. If only there was a way to combat the moisture problem
The only way would be, run a dehumidifier, in this case you better off just going with a heat pump.
Subbed, you do great stuff keep it up.
Thanks.
Only the gas company can run lines there? lmao. You have a shovel?
I have found I really only ever use the blower in 1st or 2nd gear, but I have a gravel driveway on a slight hill. The other 4 gears I call "Transport Speed", LOL. And while it has 2 reverse gears I don't think I've ever used them at all, I just put it in neutral when I want to back up or turn around and then just do it manually. A lot of that could stem from my having used an ancient old Ariens 10M4 for years though as it only has 3 forwards speeds and 1 reverse and when it's in gear you don't even have to hold onto it other than to steer it. The augers are engage by a short handle on the side in front of the engine, as well as the drive handle which is just behind it beside the belt cover. Only controls it has at the handlebars are clutch brake, throttle, gear lever and chute crank.
Get ya a gallon of WD-40. It's a boatload cheaper that way than by buying the small aerosol cans, then you can put it in a squeeze bottle with a steel or plastic needle tip. No aerosol, but can still concentrate where it goes.
I have been using 15w40 and diesel fuel mix for years for lubrication on my stuff, works good, but on some stuff I use PL-100.
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN I mainly use it as a penetrating oil myself, and also as a rust remover on stuff like cast iron saw tables, along with scotch brite. For lubrication I use a mix of 10w30, stp oil treatment and whatever else I can drain out of the bottles after I change the oil in my truck (letting them drip into a jug overnight to get the last drops) and put them in an old thumb pump oiler.
Good review, lets see how it works in a year.
Thanks for watching, I will update on the dishwasher from time to time. It is safe to say, no news is good news.
