The now 37-year old locomotive prop along with the tender and baggage car props used for the crash scene still exist. Last week on my way to Tucson and along on the I-10 between Indio and Blyth, I stopped at Desert Center CA to see if they were still there. They are!. It turns out Desert Center, a modern day ghost town of boarded up and collapsed buildings. These full-size movie props are still in the long abandoned building across from the post office and can easily be seen through the large broken windows. The inside of the building is totally trashed but remarkably, the locomotive and other props are pretty much untouched, just dusty. There was a sliding door that was cracked open and I was able to go inside to see them close up. In 1986 the prior owner got them from the movie company, probably for free, after they finished filming on the Eagle Mountain spur line a few miles away. He moved them to Desert Center and into this building. Decades later he died and in 2019 a guy bought these props from the estate sale and wanted to donate them to a film museum. But that never happened and they remain in Desert Center.
Note the huge black smoke from the stack completely disappears as soon as the loco hits the barrier. Not possible. A movie mistake. Proves it’s not the 4449. Then they pumped steam coming out when the mock-up or model came to rest. Otherwise, very convincing.
Actually the crashing of the locomotive was a one inch scale steamlocomotive owned by my friend Jack Sessums who did the scene with the movie company. The locomotive was great looking just like the real 4449. Jack was a talented man.
Fun fact is that burt lamcaster is an expert of driving steam locomotives in some shots just like in the film the train 1964 he did the same thing he drove an actual steam locomotive in some shots
Fun fact. The one prop that is the top half of the loco was just sold to a private owner who is moving it to a museum for restoration and public display. You will soon see the prop used for filming the top half of the loco at North California Transportation musuem. Within a year or so
looks like a 70's godzilla movie

Burt Lancaster also starred in the train in 1964

Fun fact is that burt lamcaster is an expert of driving steam locomotives in some shots just like in the film the train 1964 he did the same thing he drove an actual steam locomotive in some shots
Lmao it's funny how many people think that they used the real 4449 for the crash. IT WAS A PROP!
i still hate the fact that they used daylight
They didn't actually run daylight through that. It was fake prop that looks alot like 4449
@@traingame2.053 4449: I hate cheap knockoff
@@HENRYTHEBLUECOMST831FAN it looks rather convincing and theres no way in hell that 4449s owners would let them smash her through that
@@HENRYTHEBLUECOMST831FANhe would not say that
Did they actually wreck 4449 when filming?
no its a dummy
There is absolutely no way in hell 4449's Owners would let it be Wrecked.

Daylights whistle DOSENT sound like that
back then it did
No she is not. But it would bend her streamlined skirt pretty bad. I wonder what damages did 4449 take?
It's a full sized model of the 4449
Sth that’s dark like shit man
