    Kim hits it out of the park. Emotionally, her Joona books are spot on, as they relate to the developmental world of children and teens. These books will unequivocally aid in the formation of a secure sense of self for the reader, as the main characters exhibit the full range of emotions that kids have, along with the added ability to problem solve and act as a team. Moreover, the books are fun, exhilarating and long overdue, as we desperately need our current state of affair. Positive, wholesome and well-done! 5/5 stars. Highly recommend.

      I agree with you! I felt like the two kids went on such a journey and had to really wrestle with the things they saw happening in the world around them. I think this book definitely would help kids process grief in a hopeful way.

    Haha you’ll thank me one day when you really want to read the full Animorphs series :) As far as Christopher pikes YA novels go, they’re a LOT more mature and violent than say a fear street or point horror book. Haha I remember when I was in middle school I was trying to read every single goosebumps book available at my school library. I was burning through them at the pace of one boon per day but this one brought that to a screeching halt. I don't think my 12 year old self had ever experienced being sad at the end of a book before; I remember just hanging on to the ghost next door for the entire week of its lending period before returning it.

    • @ShaunStevensonBooks
      @ShaunStevensonBooks 27 дней назад

      That is EXACTLY how I felt about this book... I just kind of sat with it. I can't imagine reading this as a middle schooler for the first time. I think the first sad book I can remember reading when I was younger was The Bridge to Terebithia, and I just felt so sad afterwards...

  • @firestar6302
    @firestar6302 27 дней назад

    This was a very entertaining book review. I actually find it rare that someone's first book of these types of series is the literal first book, so uh congrats? Lol anyways, I am now interested in reading this book again because the last time I read it was a few months ago and I definitely do not remember anything to do with animals on the menu. Or maybe it flew over my head back then. And yeah, you're right about goosebumps being too light hearted and rarely ever going to the good stuff. I also much like how the characters and side characters all keep popping up throughout the books, it keeps things interesting imo and also helps to develop them further instead of having them stay as one note characters. The consistent characters are another thing that puts the Graveyard School series a step above Goosebumps in my opinion. Though this may have started as just another Goosebumps rip off, I do think this series has its own merits and ideas, most of which it pulls off surprisingly well. Loved your review of this, will definitely check out more of your stuff. It was so hard finding new reviews of these books because it's such a niche series. Are you planning to do any more reviews of these books? Cause I'd love to see(or hear) em!

    • @ShaunStevensonBooks
      @ShaunStevensonBooks 27 дней назад

      Yes! I was so lucky to find book one and start there. I've been debating about reading this series in order because of the continuing characters. I have a few other entries in the series already, and I will DEFINITELY do reviews of them! Some of these are on my Spooky Season TBR so I might get to another one in October. Yeah, the animals part is wild. I was a little shocked at the implication in the book...! I'm glad to hear the characters are fleshed out more - because at the beginning it was kinda hard to tell who was who until I got into it a little more.

  • @janicehernandez7907
    @janicehernandez7907 28 дней назад

    I just finished this book and omg it was SO GOOD! I was on edge especially because I was reading the final few chapters in my room at night 😂. The characters are written so well! They are not annoying teens like you see now in horror movies, and the subplot between Terry and Alex was a perfect addition to further increase the tension. The pace was excellent, and like you said it keeps you on your toes. I also finished it in one day bc it was impossible to put down. 11/10 such a must-read especially for Halloween! 🎃👻 So far I've read Night Games, The Wrong Number, and now Halloween Party. Halloween Party is definitely my favorite so far, The Wrong Number is a solid second and Night Games is probably one of the worst endings I've read. Funny that was the first book I read and when I hated the ending I was worried I wouldn't like RL Stine. But The Wrong Number saved it and now Halloween Party has me hooked.

      I think that one had better character development and more of an emotional arc that connected everything together in book 3. I think the action of book 5 is what made it my favorite probably!

    Great review! This is my all time favorite GB book. Stine can write emotion very well when he wants to, with this being the prime example. The revelation about who Hannah is, as you mentioned, kind of predictable and not necessarily what makes the book great. The writing, characters, the final act and ending, the emotion and relatability, and the themes is what makes this peak RL Stine for me.

    I have to say I'm quite a fan of the goosebumps mummy books (I love mummies and Egypt in general) even if a lot of the time there isn't actually that much mummy action. I think you're absolutely right about people not knowing what to do with mummies in general though, they're a tricky monster to make feel threatening and an imminent threat

She seems to have wrote quite a few childrens mystery/horror books back in the 70s. My Name Is Evil is pretty decent. The Nightmare Room series in general is very underrated. Excellent haul, cheers 💪

    This one is all over the place in reception and I'm more in the middle. Gabe sucks through most of it and not much happens in the first half but there is solid horror in the back half. Ahmed is a bit iffy in dis depection but what he does is dark. So it falls in the middle and is the weakest of the first 10 or so books. And yeah not much mummy stuff which is common for Stine lol

    • @ShaunStevensonBooks
      @ShaunStevensonBooks Месяц назад

      Yes! It was the second half that sold me on really liking this one. The middle part just was so run-around and too much time in the hotel room. And yes, compared to the others in the first 10... oh wow this one was definitely weak!
