I’m not sure who gave you the idea that you’re “ pretty handy “ on engines but you need a ton of guidance. Your method of problem solving is very expensive! Why don’t you determine what required condition is missing before you start working on things? This makes no sense.

so many wrong things this guy did. you dont start a mower with the throttle at idle. i knew it was the coils right off the bat. avoid a used timecutter in the first place. not designed to last

That's one of the Chinese built Toro engines that have been discontinued.

I sell these. For the most part no major issues with the TORO engine. The thing i had to get used to is shutting this engine off full throttle. Always seemed wierd to me. Supposedly a Kawasaki clone but made in China. I agree with other comments. You should only hit that starter for 5-10 seconds. Starters are expensive. It has the my ride, thats an upgrade. But Timecutters are entry level residential, with regular maintenance they should go for 400-600 hours no problem. Its when those sealed maintenance free transmissions go out. Make sure you are killing the engine at full throttle like it says at the switch, cross your fingers and hope for 4 years. That would give you some value. And dont give up on TORO. Next time, consider a Titan.

1:20 into the video, and I suspect junk in the gas tank blocking the gas from getting out intermittently, possibly the filter, the fuel pump, or float needle blockage.

You didn't get scammed. Stop the BS. For all you know you did something to it that caused the issue or it it just sat too long and the person had no Idea it had any issues. You bought used is what happened. Get over it. Oh and I never in a million years would I have never ever started with "Stops running but turn on later, OH I'm gonna blame the fuel system". That was stupid. Yeah, to start, I would Clean out the fuel system and replaced the filter and change the oil, give a tune up and oil change, but ever blame that for that issue of turning off after 20 min. But here is the thing that was wrong all along.

Dont know a lot about mower engines but if it was a bike id say the coil is getting hot and puking out.

You bought used equipment so you win some you lose some but you accepted it and paid for it so love and learn.

You have bad coils they get hot and as they get hot it looses spark

Checking for spark when it died should have been the first test.

300 dollar lawn Mower at best picked up two in much better shape this spring for 500

That stopping problem can also be caused by a plugged air hole in the fuel filler cap (my John Deere L118). Took me awhile to figure it out but found the answer in the unit's manual under trouble shooting.

You had to hammer the 2x4 sidewall support into those metal holders. The sidewalls are going to be impossible to remove without total dissasembly.

Remember to Always clean your Flywheel Magneto as this will make for a Good Electron Flow to Spark Plug...

If it shuts down after getting up to temp., it could be a coil that is breaking Down, Voltage Reg./Rectifier that has corrosion under it where it grounds to Block or a Battery that is almost Dead from Voltage Reg. not functioning properly. I would ck. these things first...

The coils in these engines go all the time it’s very common. The first shop who looked at it should have know that. We have a bin full of new coil’s 😂 at work it happens so often.

how can you try showing how to repair equipment if you don't even know how to syphon fuel out of a tank ...that was embarassing.

Why did you not gauge the armature.

Fuel tank should have been cleaned out better the this. Also you paid way to much for the mower. You are killing the starter by the way.

you have grass in your fuel line...take out elbow and clean. ran on to that problem this year. it gets grass in tank when you are putting gas in it
