The Mysterious Zuma Rock in Zuba, NIger State, Nigeria. A fascinating work sculpted by the forces of nature over millions of years. Driving along the Kaduna - Abuja Motorway, the rock is by far the most dominant landmark. Zuma rock is an iconic geological feature in Nigeria, it also features on the 100 Naira note (Local currency). Local legend has it that the gods created the rock to hold all t...

Calabar, Nigeria. Sat in a car and managed this video of a few streets in Calabar, around Marian/State Housing/Highway axis, this is the part of Calabar where I grew up and I hadn't been back home for nearly 10 years. The video brings back memories of my childhood. Music: Sinnerman by Nina Simone

Some are now saying what you call mountains are ancient tree stumps, trees that reached the sky. Compare the base of mountains with logged off tree stumps and resemblance is striking.Could be remains of ancient tree this one.

At 2:15 you can clearly see the licence plate on the Honda. These are not the permanent "plate numba" that I remember. Have things changed in regards to vehicle licence plates in Nigeria or is it a state by state thing? I am pretty sure that above the number it says Cross River.

Interesting. When I was working there 30 years ago I didn't travel into the city because I was expecting it to be like the other hell-holes in Nigeria that I had already been in. Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Bauchi, Ibadan. I was only there to get a visa to Cameroon. Douala and Yaounde were pretty nice by comparison to the above. However, I found Nairobi to be the nicest city in Africa I was ever in. Niamey, Cotonou, Lome... All were similar to Nigerian cities. I avoided Lagos.

NAH! Just hate the stupidity. I had some very fine friends there. Nigerians! They agreed with me about the crap. How often do you expect to go to your ministry and find that NO ONE was "on seat"!!! What the fuck were they being paid to do? Your ancestors spirits... thank you!!!! I will entertain them well and pour some beer on the ground for them!!!

@@ominiekwe7241 Abuja was just being built when I was there. The last time I passed through the city site there were many tall concrete buildings under construction. I remember specifically (because I have a photo) the the Abuja Hilton was almost completed in as far as supporting structure went. Bare concrete block! So no, I did not really visit the city. The road from Suleja (Zuma Rock) to Keffi was still a piece of dirt shit road. I see that there is a good expressway from there to Keffi now. But... what actually WORKS in Nigeria? Electric power? Good clean water supply? Can you pass on the highways without being accosted by police at every drink water little town? I was so happy that the police checks had been removed from all highways in about April 1983. Except Benue State! Dunno why. Had a run-in with a cop at a checkpoint there for no reason. Oh well. That was years ago. I guess you have cell service and internet kinda, mostly, now. That's good. I used to travel 5 hours to Kaduna to get to an international calling station and make a 5 min call that cost me 2 days salary. Good thing gasoline was cheap and my motorbike was easy on fuel (foil!) I see that Lagos is still a large mess and has gotten larger. Kano? Well Boko Haram has made travel in the north difficult. Kaduna and Jos have both grown somewhat too but is that just more slum area or have the cities actually improved for the people living there? Ibaden I was in a couple of times. I found it scary! The other cities, I was there often enough to get used to them.

just heard a foreign correspondent in an interview with President Jonathan describe Calabar as the best city he has visited in the whole of Africa...he was right on there, And he asked why cant the rest of Nigeria be like that? the answer is simple, the Efiks, the Anangs and their cousins the Ibibios's are decent, law abiding , culturally savvy city dwellers who love their states and do the best to make it stay the best. Wonderful indeed...shame on the rest of Nigeria.
