Today I had my 1978 camaro media blasted to expose any imperfections and get down to the bare metal. What was underneath was pre-surprising actually pretty good metal. The next steps from here will be welding in the new 1970 to 73 trunk pan outer wheel wheel housings and then getting the rear quarters and new tail pan welded in for the conversion. Man, you are doing some great work! I have a 70 Camaro and have done rear quarters, tail panel, trunk drops, firewall, DSE mini tubs, put in a Real Deal Steel tunnel, and raised the rear floors for exhaust. I had NOS quarter and AMD quarters and both fit the same except the area where the trunk drop welded was a bit different flange but fixable. It took me two years working on it on and off. I rosette welded everything but if I had to do it over I might also 3M panel bond as well as rossette weld. The key I found was the deck lid gap must be good. Another problem I ran into was during all of this the inner roof structure adhesive became unstuck from the roof and dropped about 1/2". Not sure why but all the body movement maybe caused it. Doing the firewall wasn't too bad, a couple tricks that helped was to make a tunnel shape plywood mold that I could jack up with a floor jack to push the bottom of the firewall into final position for welding and to weld a couple "hooks" that I could cable to and ran the cables back to the rear end with a ratchet strap and pull the rear bottom edge of the firewall to fully seat against the floor flange. Good luck my man, you will be done before you know it!!

    • @BSBuilt94
      @BSBuilt94 6 месяцев назад

      how did you fix the roof adhesive issue? I don’t think i’ve had that but i’d love to know incase it were to happen!

    • @idaho2ndgens240
      @idaho2ndgens240 6 месяцев назад

      @@BSBuilt94 I have not fixed it yet. I tried to use some panel bond and jack up the inner structure but could not clean the roof surface enough to get it to stick. The roof would have to come off to fix it right. My roof is perfect as is the inner structure too so I think I will leave it. The headliner might be an issue

      @ssmart5701 7 месяцев назад

      @@BSBuilt94 There are kits for 2nd gen for a 4 link, I’m actually going with an air instead of coil over. Rear is a 12 bolt I pick up at a swap meet, I will narrow and do some cutting and welding for the new suspension. Back seat will be modified for this set up. (Think of a daily/road course blend) all Wilwood brakes, 6piston up front, 4 in the back. Tubular upper and lower, 2” drop spindles, t56 tranny, super charged LSX (came out of my nova) I will be flaring the front and rear ( not the tacky wild flares, these will be metal) It’s funny, I bought the car in 1989 for 1500, went into the military for 35 years and I only drove the car 4 times. Still to this day it has 23k. I also own a 78 trans am I built in early 2000s, 89 mustang, 66 Chevy, 59 cadi, 65 VW bug w/ 289 small block, 86 Lincoln mark 7 (726 hp to the wheels) and a cobra kit car (hardtop) I’ve built everything myself and painted all of them. Wow!! Looks great, fitment, as you say is spot on! I am thinking of doing this to my 74 Camaro, it too like yours, started life with a inline 6 which someone stole?! I wound up with a 350 sbc installed in it, she is pretty heavy but I got close to 11 second quarter mile time out of her. She is currently awaiting her turn back in my shop for this update/upgrade... You are serving as a guide for me in this process so please include the cost for parts, this will give people like me an idea as to how much would be involved to do something like this. We Camaro guys know, that our labor comes from blood and sweat, but we pay for everything else to keep these ladies on the street or in car shows etc. Keep up the great work, patience is a big part of doing this kinda work. Keep on keeping on! Thanks and God Bless!!

    One other factor to consider, if rust/rot has compromised the strength of the metal then by all means replace it. always error to the side of safety. In the case of an unforseen accident that matel is what is protecting you and you passengers. One again good luck and God Bless!

    • @BSBuilt94

      Awesome! Just some welding, grinding, primer and on to the next. A grinder is a new welder's best friend. I love building these cars, I am working on my 4th one. Another thing to consider, if you are planning an LS install, is some frame connectors and renforcements for the body. I have built SBC strokers that have twisted the frame and body to where the doors didn't want to close properly. I wound up putting a square tube body cage hidden into the body, like a built in roll cage, I was still able to reinstall the interior panels to hide it all... Well have fun I will be checking in on your progress.... Good luck and God Bless... Take care

      @cruzenforabruisen6368 I feel that lol i’m not doing LS this time around im doing a 383 stroker definitely doing the subframe connectors I was looking at the ones that you weld to the rear and that slide between the front sub frame what is your thoughts on that set? and it makes me happy that someone is invested into the progress it makes me want to keep posting videos along the way! thank you so much!

  • @cruzenforabruisen6368
    @cruzenforabruisen6368 8 месяцев назад

    Hello The holes in the roof are small enough to arc weld shut, just watch the metal when you weld, do it in small burst, a few hours of hammer and dolly work will get your doors close enough to where a very thin layer of body filler or even high build primer will get them straight, just take your time and go easy with the hammering, I have done worst doors than this and got very good results. I used AMD and OEM stuff on mine. AMD is damn good for the money, as I am going to do a 73 build myself from 74 so I'll be watching as you build yours... Hope this help and good luck!
