The old Mountain West had their own TV Network and this was the biggest game they had every broadcasted. BYU's own Todd Christensen did the color commentary and the game itself for Cougar fans became an instant classic which continued a string of successful seasons during the early 2000's. This was the first Mountain West Championship for the Cougars. #byufootball #byufootball

The last stretch of the Mormon Trail was not easy. There was a major accident as well as a wagon crash and a hard mountain to climb before they reached the valley. But all of it was worth it when they arrived and there were 50,000 people to greet them at the end of the trail.

Life happens on the trail and so does death. Although the old pioneers experienced deaths and hardships the modern wagon train also saw it's first death and it's only birth on the trail.

A wagon train is a roving village where teamsters, outriders and handcarts share the trail and look out for each other. Wyoming has well preserved two-track today where you can experience the same trail as the pioneers.

Hardships on the Mormon Trail strengthened the pioneers and gave them the courage to represent Jesus Christ in all that they did and to build Zion in the Rocky Mountains as foretold. Today's pioneers learned first hand that walking or riding the trail makes you more resilient to adversity.

At the very end of the video you will see my youngest at the time Mary Eva trying to grab the wagon wheel. This was the only time my whole family came out on the trail to see me. It was very tender when Michael Ballard our photographer captured this sweet moment in Platte, Nebraska on the Mormon Trail.
Let me be the first to say it in 2025: Harline, is still open !!!
Next game not until December 28th 2024.
Reminiscing because byu screwed up this season??
Florida State came to town and Bobbie Bowden took the Cougs to the woodshed.
Don't ever post another football video where the score is not visible for every play! I STILL don't know what it was after watching the whole thing!
Cougs win.
Gordon B. Hinckley is such a good man. :))))
I miss the MWC!
This is the game that made me invested to 1. Support BYU 2. Start playing football in HS.
BYU really should have won this game by more.
Depending how up Utah will be up for Saturdays game it might have to come down to a game likebthis for BYU to win.
Pretty spot on
Just a heads up, in your description you said this was BYU's first conference championship in the MWC, but this was BYU's 3rd MWC championship. They also won in 1999 and 2001.
Holy CRAP this takes me back. So many names I instantly remembered. We had so much fun watching this. I'm really excited for the game this Saturday but I hope it's not nearly this close!
Thanks for sharing! Love the Cougs!!
I was a teenager, had just gone through a growth spurt, and this is when I found out I could touch the ceiling.
Love it! I was a teenager during the Miracle Bowl and found out my head would go through a sheet rock ceiling. 😂 My dad didn't even get mad a me! 😄 Adrenaline....WOW!
I watched this game live. We lost our minds.
2:53 targeting!!
Not nearly as dramatic when you only show one side of the game. Makes you feel like BYU won a blowout instead of a final play come-from-behind touchdown to win. Still a great win, but the game was better than this.
My oldest boy fell asleep in my arms during that last drive after being fussy all throughout the game. I had to whisper scream when Harline caught the TD. It was a moment of bliss.
Harline was open because the D didn't hold. 😆
That 2006 team was one of the best ever. Really impressive for that season to end as it did especially after the disappointing start. In some ways those 2006-2009 years were the best the program had seen since the 1980s.
i was at a cabin with family listening on the radio to the Ute radio broadcast need to find that audio the lack of enthusiasm in their voices e saying “caught for a touchdown” was so monotone it was glorious
Big matchup this Sat vs Utah Utes at 7:30PM pst in Salt Lake! Y's opponents so far have been cupcakes and its Defense has given up 157 points compared to an avg among its ranked neighbors 83 avg points. Someone that has the hots for the Y ranked them #9 because they won against then-ranked #13 Kansas State. After Utah this Sat they finish the reg season vs unranked cupcakes KU, ASU & HOU. Time will tell
SMU and Kansas State aren't cupcakes. Nobody's a cupcake to Utah. Really thought u had a chance to beat Houston but the U sucks.
Read that as hairline.
This was BYU's LAST VICTORY in Salt Lake City. I hope they take the opportunity to finally change that this week.
Anything can happen in a rivalry but now we are both back in the conference again.
Utes win 34-17
Ain't no way Utah is putting up 20+points
@@mad85123 utahs defense is going to have to score all those points then. Y’all have no offense
@ You’ll be surprised…. I’ll eat my words if we lose… I just don’t see that happening. And the poor Cougars will go home with their tail between their legs.
Utah sucks and always has.
But they are our borthers
@cougardiary not the people, the program. The people involved with the program I am sure are good people, except Whittingham. Lol. I'm kidding of course. That being said, anytime BYU can get in a good beat down on their field or court, they should do it. This year I hope it's 57-0. Knowing this rivalry and how it goes Utah will probably win.
I remember being at that game. That was a special one. But man, those uniforms….those were a mistake. Tan is not and was not ever a BYU color.
🥰, I disagree. I have a bunch of BYU Swag in those colors & the late 1990s through 2004 Designs. I also have current & classic Swag. What I 🤩about these designs is I can specifically remember those Years & the equally wonderful individual players. Unfortunately I cannot remember alot of the names of players from before then, Mid 1980s through late 1990s, 2005 through Now. Wonderful individuals & players I instantly remember are: Brady Poppinga, John Beck, Margin Hooks, Brandon Doman, Luke Staley, Kalani FifitaSitake, Victorious Game over Uni. Notre Dame, i'm sure I've forgotten a few more players & victories. The point is I instantly remember the Players I listed because of the Uniforms ...
I was four when this play happened. I wish I remember it haha
What a wonderful Man, Father, Husband, Friend and one of the College greatest Coach Ever will be ! 🐐🙌💪🏻🙏🏈😊
I remember watching that game. So awesome!!! Beck to Harline!
I remember this distinctly. We were all, ALL, (mom included who doesn’t normally get invested in football) we’re huddled around the tv as this cinematic ending transpired. To say we went crazy, is a believable understatement. We lost our ever loving minds!!! The most hyped I’ve ever remembered being. Legendary.
Historic
Made for Hollywood!
how did this team of busts win 🤣
Team of busts? Do you realize how world class you have to be to make it in the NFL. As for college goes, this was a very good team.
Great game. It was sure fun to be there
One of the great plays of all time. How did Harline get himself open?
This is the season that made me a BYU fan. It is still my favorite season and this is still my favorite game. Go Cougs! 🤙🏻
Your family is the biggest of BYU fans.
I told you. Yes. I get to say this. I told you so. This is what I said 6 days ago on a youtube video. I even predicted BYU winning with a score of 38-21. Pretty darn close. Dang it. I wish I would have bet on this. "Vegas & others still don't get BYU's defense this year. The only ones giving Y's defense respect are opposing coaches. BYU's defense is a pro-defense this year. Believe me. They're legit. They're for real! Y's defense is why they are 7-0. People don't get it. Y's defense has shut down each opponent this year. And they've faced some of the best offenses. They've exposed opponent's offensive weaknesses and exploited them. Y's defense makes opponent's offenses make mistakes. And what's more? Y's defense fuels, pumps up their offense. Y's defensive backs, secondary shuts down receivers, which then gives time for the down 4 guys and linebackers to stop the run, pressure, and sack the qb. They showed this well with K-State. And when Y's defensive front and linebackers pressure qb's, they make mistakes, throw picks. And when Y's defense pressures the qb, it's over. Y's defensive secondary are ball hawks. BYU has already seen UCF already this year. How? They saw them in K-State, in Baylor, in OK State, and in AZ. Yes, Iowa St. barely beat UCF. But BYU this year is no Iowa St. Why? Because of Y's defense. BYU UCF game is gonna be like K-State and Baylor. This may even be another route for BYU. Why? The inexperience of UCF QB. He's young and inexperienced. And when Hill throws his pro defensive schemes at UCF, their QB is gonna make mistakes and throw picks, just like K-State QB did. All BYU has to worry about with UCF is stopping the run. Because UCF QB can't throw. He's not proven he can throw. That's how they lost against Iowa St. This is why this might be another route for BYU. Yes, even though it's in Orlando and historically BYU has not fared well east of the Mississippi. Not this year. Why? Again, I keep saying this. Y's DEFENSE! Plus their veterans, very experienced, and play for each other. Chemistry! Away games do not matter to BYU this year. No one wants to play the Cougs this year because they're real, they're legit, they're scary, and they ARE DANGEROUS! Especially their DEFENSE! What's the score for this game. 38-21, BYU wins. UCF will not be able to score enough points. Why? You guessed it. BYU'S DEFENSE. This is a magical season for the COUGS! Yes, I'm an alum, '02. But, this has been an objective analysis. Pundits and voters, start giving BYU the respect they have already deserved and earned. They will be 8-0 after Saturday's game in Orlando."
No question, defence wins games. But a good comeback brings the excitement and finding ways to win is something special and will prove itself.
Never gets old…
I remember as a kid, not being able to watch the last play. I had to go out to the garage and listen for the cheers or sighs from my family while I was out there. I still regret not watching it live but i literally couldn’t watch lol. What a good game.
It was monumental and hopefully you've been able to relive it again and again.
I wish they would have kicked the extra point so the score would be "34-31". That would have been so poetic.
For sure!
I was 10 years old and watching at my friend’s grandma’s house. I only remember the absolute thrill of watching that last play. Still to this day gives me chills.
I still remember driving around Idaho falls listening to this game on the radio because we couldn’t afford cable at the time. I still remember the touchdown call and screaming are heads off!
Are you my brother?? Literally same story. Couldn’t afford cable. Driving around Idaho Falls after visiting family. Crazy
@ that’s awesome!!!
We all screamed our heads off including Greg Wrubell.
James Bates and Todd Christensen. The voices of my childhood 😊
Todd Christensen sounds so much like Hans Olsen 😂
Through a random turn of events, I was in the Crimson Club above the north end zone. It may not be exaggerating to say nobody had a better view of the last play. It was my highlight as a BYU fan.
I was right in front of you and almost got on the pile up in celebration.
That is awesome!!

Both of those men…one of a kind!!!
First of all, you should know that there is no Mormon church. The correct name of the church, you refer to, is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints.
Yes the entire world knows. What I don’t get though is why is Lds acceptable when it still leaves out the name of Jesus Christ?
Oh ya I was going to say if this was with president hinckley that was years ago. What did the lds church come out with released around July 2010? They released the I am a Mormon campaign. If you were a missionary in the MTC then you saw this and some even recorded their I am a Mormon testimonies to add to the church backed or promoted I am a Mormon campaign. President Nelsen said Christ cries when people use the term Mormon. It made me spend hours reflecting upon that. Does president Nelsen mean that president monson was deceived by the devil to promote the I am a Mormon campaign if using the term Mormon causes Jesus to weep? Or did Jesus tell president monson the I am a Mormon campaign is good, but then Jesus changed his mind and told President Nelsen that he now feels said when the term Mormon is used? Like I’m not be facetious or sarcastic but sincere as I have spent hours and hours upon this. Why would President Nelsen undercut or denigrate the teaches of president monson? Why would President Nelsen essentially hurt the credibility of the prior president of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? This is one of the extremely rare times where a president under cuts the credibility of the prior president or leadership of the church.
So BEAUTIFULLY have you produced these reenactment films🥰. And thank you for including past church history for us....some dramatizations. Just brings back to our hearts and minds....the thrill and sacred experiences of this 1997 unsurpassed event😇 on several days. We would get up about 3 am...here ❤ in Perry,, Utah... then drive out to Wyoming to meet the wagons, and spend an unforgettable day with them! Every day ...the memories are a treasure forever.❤️💙💜

Thank you Kevin, for making these available here. Your awesome..
That great voice of yours, Kels, this is great to see you and Kevin here..
Love these stories--what a great man.
Hi there. Is there a good documentary on this reenactment? Do they have video of the time that they entered the valley immigration canyon?
Wonderful Wonderful
Writing in the Journal would make you remember all
This was my very first BYU football game I ever went to
Do you have any more clips from this game? I’m looking for the clip when a fan runs onto the field right before the end…
