    Does anyone sell a small organizer for storing and sorting pins?

    • @PickingPrincipals
      @PickingPrincipals 3 дня назад

      I’ve seen them, but I don’t know where they came from. I know that companies that sell pins to locksmiths send them in cases, but it’s pretty expensive. I’m guessing sewing kits or small tackle organizers would make a good substitute.

      @@labruddah8705 Thanks for the comment. The lock is a practice/training lock, so starting with 3 pins, standard or security, is a great way to learn. By the end, hopefully everyone will have 6 pins with a mix of spools and serrated and open it in under two minutes.

    I got a couple of these after I watched LPL do a few round body padlock videos. Thought I'd have it open in 45 seconds.... I was sort of right but with a caveat. The spring tension on that thing keeps you from doing effective tension but if I'm not remembering the wrong lock, after it's open the core spins freely like a deadcore. Picking in the field, its difficult because of that spring but if you're at home and have a key.... open it, turn the key back to locked, leave the shackle open, remove the key and now you can pick it without that powerful spring annoying you. After two nights of struggle, I checked the key to see if I had broken the core and noticed the spring tension trick and doing it that way it did indeed only take about 60 seconds. Cheating? Nah, view it like hitting golf balls at the driving range, hitting baseballs in the batting cage or playing t-ball. It IS a heavy paperweight though ain't it! Used 40 thousandths tok ergo turner from covert instruments and a Peterson #7 in either 18 or 15 thousandths the first time and a standard pick after that.

      I’ve tried and tried and I can’t seem to do it. I’ve been thinking about it, and I’d have to overset each pin and hope they would bind in the normal fashion and then set key pins as if they were drivers. OR when a pin sets, let off a bit (since rotation would occur) and set the key pin above the sheer line, re-tension, and go at the next pin - but as soon as the last pin set normally, I’d get an open, so I’d again need to float pick the final key pin???

    • @PickingPrincipals
      @PickingPrincipals 20 дней назад

      I haven’t used the Sparrows one - so I can’t say. I think cutaways are great, but my guess is you’d want to cover them up most of the time to get a feel and ear for picking. If you just do it by sight, you will get stumped in every ‘real’ lock you encounter. Sparrows has the revolver, which people seem to like but I think the CI lock is quite good as a beginning lock. • @PickingPrincipals
      @PickingPrincipals 25 дней назад

      @@Millennial_Me it sounds like maybe the deadlatch fell into the hole in the strike plate (if I’m understanding your setup correctly?) You might be able to use a small flathead screwdriver between the latch and the strike plate to push the latch in, or a strong piece of plastic (like a credit card, but those are easy to bend or break, so be careful). To make it a bit easier, push on the door a tad so there is either less force on the latch, or to ensure the deadlatch falls into the hole in the strike plate completely. I may have misunderstood the setup though - if so, sorry this isn’t helpful. Good luck!

I don't think its possible with the gen 3 anyway. I ended up attacking it the same way as you are. Finding something thin yet strong enough, was the toughest part, so I just ended up used the change key that came with all the smart locks. With a bit of shaping, it was a perfect fit to sneak around, and pin down the sidebar. Normally you can push the restricting pin up from the back with a pick. And turn it anticlockwise. Looks as if you might have to drill the plug out from the top to get that retaining pin out. Personally I think I would just saw it open, the course already broken. I had a lock that looked identical except the text on the lock. I turned it into a CL but the core snapped just like yours. Defo worth putting a new core in if h you can.
