It’s difficult to put into words how I feel, I am simply overwhelmed with emotion. After many years of searching, the search is finally over. My life is now complete.
Number 82, of the limited-edition Sankyo Orpheus Final Fantasy VII Aeris’s Music Box. Proudly displayed next to her cousin, the Sankyo Orpheus Chrono Cross Radical Dreams Music Box.
Only 100 were specially selected, numbered and license by SquareSoft in 2002. The clarity of the 3-part Sankyo movement is breath-taking, it is truly an exceptional piece of craftsmanship.

Although unlicensed, this is rare piece of Final Fantasy merchandise and is simple breathtaking, a wonderful addition to my collection. It uses the same Sankyo 3-Part movement in the licensed version. Only 100 were specially selected, numbered and license by SquareSoft in 2002. A lot more, however SE are doing a new run with the same movement at roughly a 1000 usd. Expensive!
Well, apparently square enix just released this again and I finally got mine for 750$
The announcement was made a few months ago and preorders are still live, release quarter one of 2025. Looking forward to hearing how the new movement compares. Hoping they make use of the additional notes in the remake.

Hi, I purchased this FF XI music box recently and heard the precious melody. Sorry for my silly question but, how do I remove the lever to keep it in the cardboard box again?

Yes the 12 to 15 note music boxes are nice, I really need to start uploading videos again.
They’ve just started taking pre-orders for a new version of this box, on the Japanese Square-Enix site. (Well, at least, I’ve learned of it a few hours ago) The wooden box is slightly different, the external cover is now engraved, they’ve changed the name of the character to reflect new spelling, etc, but the mechanism looks identical)

Wish it was slower... This prelude is so important and it feels they spent very little time making this music box
The FFXIV version I have is slightly slower - These 15 note Music Boxes typically have a higher speed because of the short coil.

Yeah for a replica lol an officially licensed og version can’t be bought for that price and was last sold for 50k. I actually have a low numbered music box, #21, and I wouldn’t dream of parting with it for less then 6 figures

I found an unlicensed one for 9999$ I tried to discuss discounts with the Japanese seller and he simply refused.

unfortunately the company that made this particular box went out of business.
There a few places where you can commission a similar one. It might not as nice because Sankyo modules are super expensive but it will be pretty close.

This is so beautiful! I found a seller in Japan that has it for sale for about $9000 USD, but that is too much money. I learned that Sankyo sells empty 72 note music boxes. There is also a company in America that can customize 72 note movements for you. Hopefully, this can be a project I can do in the future. Basically, make my own Aerith’s Theme Music Box.
@@athyscollection Hi! Thank you for the reply. Also, Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea it was that expensive to build custom music boxes yourself. At the time, I found a shop in America that sold blue prints to build the wooden box yourself. They also sold 72 note Sankyo music cylinders too. I figured if I built the box myself and bought the empty cylinders it would be way less than having to buy the Aerith’s music box. But still at an average of $3.5k seems a way cheaper option than having to pay over $10k. Plus, I could be even more proud of it knowing I built the music box myself. On the plus side, I found a shop that sells custom music boxes with Aerith’s theme, but it’s only 30 notes. EDIT: I did a quick search and found empty walnut and cherry wood boxes predrilled for 72 note Sankyo cylinders. They go about $370 to $380 USD. Another shop sold custom Sankyo cylinders for over $900 USD. It’s a lot more expensive than I thought, but I’d still go for a custom one if I could.

Not sure if you got the answer, but you can see it at around 0:40, when it does the « knock » sound, the cylinder slides sideways. If you look closely at the key, they’re « pointy », which allows for unused notes to pass in the gap without triggering the sounds. If I’m not mistaking, this specific music box has 3 mini score that it plays one after the other.

If you’re still interested, Square Enix Japan seems to have re-released it, a few days ago. It’s currently available for pre-order (scheduled to be delivered in October 2024)
