Barwon Heads Freediving Crayfish Australia
Example of surf entry and exit technique for Freediving. Identify the locations of rips at the beach by seeing where the waves are breaking less and use that calmer water to get in and out. Make sure you are confident that the rip won’t be too fast for you to swim back in through and be aware that rips change based on waves wind and tides.

    is it very common which is we have to dive more than 10m to get the crayfish along the great ocean road?

    • @finnbismark
      @finnbismark Месяц назад

      Typically there are more days per year where you can dive for crays in the deeper water than in the shallow water. As you go deeper the waves and swell push you around less and the visibility normally improves. As a bit of a rule of thumb in Victoria you should expect to dive about 10x as deep as the wave hight otherwise the waves will push you around and stir up the sand/visibility to much. So if you want to dive where it is 5 m deep aim to have less than 0.5m of swell. If you plan to dive 15m deep you will probably be ok in 1.5m of swell.

      @@finnbismark Thank you very much to explain to me this much. especially tell me the tips. I play in Sydney. I only played about a year which i do not have lots of experience. I do not dive that much deep to get the caryfish. Generally I dive about 5m to catch them. It is like you mentioned, at this deep, I am washed by the swell and also it is hard to find them. It is very hard to let me stay there properly. I am not sure if it is worth to go deeper to find crayfish or not in Sydney. I watch the videos on youtube. Many youtubers who catch them in NSW. They do not go very deep.

About 5 minutes later I found out why the crayfish was so hard to get out, he didn’t fit through the gap I was trying to get him through. He was still there wedged unable to move so I helped free him then took him home.

      Glad to have the feedback. It does improve visibility a bit to adjust it. But it kind of feels a little false like putting filters on sunsets. Main adjustment was to reduce the greens a bit to clear up some of the haze in the water.
