The society as a whole is going to have to change if we want to truly develop better people. We have a society that glorifies bad behavior thru media.

We can’t keep trying to say it’s the dads or the parents when there ain’t nothing for nobody to prevent these issues. Everyone wants to point fingers but nobody is doing anything much for not only these kids but their parents and community too. I’m here and I see it and feel it too. If it takes a village? This hood mentality ain’t building no villages and gentrification ain’t helping either butt… they can do better that what is here now.

DC has plenty of programs. Rec centers. Getting the kids to stay in the programs as this parent stated is the issue. How do we get them off the corner away from those violent video games. Gangster Rap is not helping our kids thinking also. While this mother was trying hard the rest of the community where there was no parent accountability that allowed the kid to stay in his mess with out consequences is the issue. We as a people need to start looking at how we are raising our kids. What we allow them to do at a young age that leads to older behaviors. Just one man thought who was a single parent. O ye. Fathers stop running it is your responsibility too. And for real, for young men you have a bigger responsibility then moms. It's very difficult for moms to show him how to be a real man. We need to stop looking to our elected officials for help. It's on us as a people.

I'm so confused as to why we keep harping on the parents when the statistic have already revealed 54% of the children who are being born have neither a father or a mother that they are being raised by. Keron Blake had been in foster care since he was five years old. What part of "these kids don't have any Parents" don't you understand. The main program they need is one that encourages these people to STOP having kids they refuse to take care of. FYI, I am a single mother who "raised" her son in DC.
