I have a lot of respect for you for actually acknowledging the underlying seriousness in these scenes. You're totally right about it being assault, and that it's usually the other way around. Circe's character here is an example of the power imbalance we're used to seeing going in the other direction. In the past she said that strangers had caused a "heavy loss" to her island and the women there (with all that implies). So now she "protects" them by turning the men into pigs before they can do any harm. But obviously she has taken her protectiveness to a monstrous extreme. (To be very clear, I'm not saying she's justified turning people into animals and eating them, just that you can see her motivation 😅) 35:45: I love the way the music changes here too, that synth sort of effect (I don't know what it's called) is so good. Seeing Circe choose the "act of kindness" at the end made me happy as well. This was a very insightful reaction to some complex and uncomfortable topics, I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts. Choosing kindness can be hard, but it's always worth it. 💚

In Greek mythology heroes travelled to the Underworld all the time, so Circe's idea was not even too strange. Also what she is saying, is that Odysseus needs a prophet to tell him how to get home and escape Poseidon. I want to warn you that the next saga is going to be super sad, because the Underworld is very much not a happy place, so be prepared. As for animatics, I like "The Underworld" by BrittPowwPixel, "No longer you" by Ximena Natzel and especially "Monster" by Gigi. I rather like that you talked about sexual harrassment, because, while obviously Circe just tried to seduce him as a trick, she also literally said he have to sleep with her in order to save his friends, so even if Ody agreed, the consent would be super questionable here. I see a lot of reactors who completely miss this and just go: "Ohh, she is just so hot, how can Ody resist, he must be superhuman". So it was just very refreshing to see you uncomfortable face, haha. I must say that this topic will actually come again in this musical in the couple of other songs, so I'll be really waiting for your reaction to them.

I like your theory about Poseidon! I'm sure that we aren't the bad guys, though. "The line between naivety and hopefulness is almost invisible" could definitely be him having regret for believing Ody would actually apologize. Since Odysseus didn't actually apologize; "I'm sorry" was never used nor did he acknowledge that what they (the crew) did was wrong, just that they didn't like hurting Polyphemus (the cyclops). Fact: Troy (Hermes' voice actor) doesn't have that accent in real life! Shocked me when I learned that. The instrument Hermes plays is a lyre! It's kind of like a small harp, so not far off! Hermes is also Odysseus' great-grandfather, as well as simply helping the "underdogs" or people that need the most help and being seen as "The Divine Trickster". Him helping Odysseus (a known liar) isn't surprising even without the relation. 15:29 This pose that Odysseus(?) is in caught me off guard since it's a not very recent meme "The Family Guy Death Pose" not even the show, just the pose; made me laugh a little bit. "Holy Moly" is an American expression to show shock. I'm not sure if "Moly" exists in real life, or in mythology; a fun play on words, though! I personally love this song, mostly because of how upbeat it is. It is music, so there are no wrong opinions.

Hermes is actually Odysseuses grandfather. And he's the god of travelleres, who'll just randomly pop up to help people, essentially for shits and giggles, or because he wants to see where the story will go and what chaos he can cause. Without typically asking for anything in return.

Moly is the name of the root flower and only gods (who are "holy") can gather it safely. We have an American/English idiom where we say "holy moly!". It's similar to the expression "whoa!", "wow!", or "holy crap!". It's a very funny play on words for us 🙂

As for the Poseidon's motivation, it's up to interpretation, but I think he feels some sort of obligation to punish Odysseus. Because he said that he has no choice and then proceeds singing about how he needs to teach him a lesson. Now, Poseidon is obviously in the wrong, because this lesson was too severe, but he had his reasons, and not just killed everybody for the fun of it. The cool thing about this musical is that almost all villains actually have pretty reasonable motivations. But Poseidon is going to come back, there is no way to escape him in the middle of the sea, so maybe you will learn more about him in the future.

I like your poseidon theory. It fits in a way as you explain here. In the end i believe poseidon did it more as a revenge lesson. Mirroring exactly what zeus warned would happen if he let hectors baby live. Ruthlessness was a callback to that theme. And will be a reminder for odysseus going forward as well.

Also Hermes is just that kind of god who likes to randomly help heroes for fun. He is the trickster and enjoys chaos, but for the most part he is just fun and helpful guy. And he is the god of travelers, and Odysseus is a traveller currently, so. Also in mythology Hermes is actually grand-grandfather of Odysseus or something! I am not sure how much it is important for him since gods usually have a ton of descendants, but that's probably the reason why Odysseus himself is so cunning and tricky, and why Hermes likes him.

The instrument Hermes is playing is actually a lyre. In mythology Hermes was the one who invented the lyre (and later gifted it to Apollo).

And a fun fact: Jorge (Odysseus' voice actor and creator of Epic) and Talya (Circe's voice actor) are dating in real life! [To answer some questions and some of my own notes: Circe (Pronounced: Ser-see) is a minor/less powerful goddess. "Luck Runs Out" is when Eurylochus and Odysseus argue. For a "Wouldn't you Like" animatic, Ximena Natzel (Pronounced: Heh-men-ah Naht-zel) and Laritamiauu (Pronounced: Lah-ree-tah-me-ow) are great. Aphrodite is pronounced Af-row-die-tee English. [5:09 - 11:03] - An American saying (or I hear it in Americas more than other countries) is, "no news is good news." Meaning: Our situation is really bad, and more bad news will make it hard to stay focused. I think it applies to this situation. Odysseus must have a lot of guilt for what happened to his crew, even though he didn't know that the cyclops was Poseidon's son. He really is just a man. Ody and Eury are definitely grieving, and in very different ways as Ody would rather think on his own while Eury wants to connect and think with his brother. What Eury wants to say will be revealed. [13:16] There is a good reason for Odysseus' confusion since he is known as a "Wife Guy" or a man who stays very faithful to his wife. This is meant as a good thing of course!

I'm glad that you noticed how Ody and Eury process their grief differently, because that's something I find really interesting in this musical. They are reacting in the opposite ways: Euri becomes more cautious but also seeks connection, and Ody, on the contrary, becomes more reckless but kinda closes off and isolates himself. But they both come from the point of grief, and that's so sad.

This was another great reaction Mr. Smile! I have always felt that Ody knows, in this moment (deep down) what Eurylochus wants to confess to him. He's too smart not to. I adore Keep Your Friends Close too! It was on repeat for a long time for me. It's such a "dark" bop. Jorge writes a lot of those. Can't wait to see how you feel about "Wouldn't You Like". I never really have much to say about these songs, I'll be honest. Odysseus wasn't upset about Eurylochus disagreeing with him, but the fact that (in my opinion) he was making a show of it (or making it a big deal). We hear the crew join Eury in the chorus. It isn't great to have the crew doubt the, not only captain but, king. I understand why Odysseus gor upset. I know i'm a bit late to the reaction, but i still wanted to comment.

A little thing for when Poseidon said to apologise, we don't really know if he was bluffing or not: Odysseus never actually apologised. He made excuses for why he hurt the cyclops, but he never did just say "Sorry for the pain we caused" So, maybe Poseidon may have let him go, maybe he was lying, we'll never know now

Part of the issue with Luck Runs Out, isn't that Eurylochus disagreed with Odysseus, it's that he disagreed in front of the whole crew instead of pulling him aside in private. They are Captain and First Mate, they aren't supposed to disagree or argue in front of the rest of the crew or else it will make everyone uneasy and cause tensions to get higher, causing them to doubt their leadership I am excited to keep seeing you react to the rest of the musical!! :D I only have two artist recommendations for songs but, they're for the future lol Not needed yet

If Odysseus had killed the Cyclops and not shouted his name and home to the cyclops, the cyclops would not have been able to tell Poseidon. Poseidon would not have known about Odysseus and would have no reason to go after him. Remember the cyclops smiling at the end of that song?

Poseidons back up singers are actually a race of giants called laestrygonians that are in the land of the giants but most animatics don't really show them. Also Poseidon saying he could of avoided this if he killed his son is because after Odysseus told the Cyclops his name polyphemus told his father who hurt him which is what sent Poseidon after Odysseus and his crew in the first place and if he killed polyphemus Poseidon wouldn't have really noticed so quickly

The situation with the wind bag is tricky, because Ody did not trust his men and did not sleep for 9 days, so at this point they might start thinking he is going crazy or something, and in the last song he made it clear he doesn't care about their opinions, so they also did not trust him as a result... I think this overall mistrust is what led to the bag being opened.

In the scene were you mentioned that they are close to wach other - Eury (can't spell his whole name lol) touches the red headband from Polites ... that gives much more drama to the scene. Loved your reaction again, can't wait for more! <3

This is still my favourite song from the first two sagas, though most of the rest are also very good. The high level continues, as well as the many twists and turns in the story. The whole musical is great, the final Ithaca saga is the only one I have been able to see at the time it was released over Christmas. Ah! Your reactions are great! A lot of people seem to know something about theater or Greek mythology, but a person going into this completely blind amazes me! I would say I'm excited for you to react to a specific saga, but all of them have awesome songs. Motifs! Motifs are used a lot in Epic! You're right about Athena having a piano to represent her being there! I would watch out for motifs since a lot of them are subtle and a motif might be there without the character that goes with it. Athena is the goddess of war tactics, she's very analytical, so it does make sense for her to have some ignorance in why Ody is so upset. Odysseus met Athena when he was young (as mentioned in Warrior of the Mind) so of course he sees her as a friend! She's a god, though, and doesn't understand how complex human emotions are. I wouldn't say that Ody sees Athena's ideals as wrong, but he doesn't want to be as ruthless as she wants him to be. You talk a lot about the lyrics themselves and the emotions behind them. I say this since a lot of reactors talk about how smart the "wiser / why's your" lyric is and simply allow the other lyrics to be interpreted. This isn't a bad thing at all by the way! Yes! The ghosts are people that have made an impact on his life! We see Polites holding the infant and a woman on the left. I also think the "just a man" line is interesting because it could be negative, as in: Odysseus doesn't deserve her teaching since he's just a man. It could also be more positive, as in: Odysseus is just a man and doesn't need to push himself this hard.

Polites was likely the person who would have talked Odysseus through things up to this point, his moral and emotional center. His "light" if you will. Athena has been with him for nearly as long as Polites and Eurylochus, but she never came down to his level or accepted his friendship. She does have a solid point with the cyclops though and may not have been so angry if he had groveled instead of fought her even if he opted to flee in silence instead of killing Polyphemus. PS Keep an ear out for all these motifs in future sagas, they can give as much insight as the lyrics and animations.
