I don’t understand how you don’t get it that the joke about what Sheldon says about Howard’s competence (Howard has an MS) is that the laughter is at *Sheldon* for being a jerk, not at Howard. It’s mocking that horrible hierarchical attitude in academia, not Howard for his lack of a PhD. Similarly, the “misogynist” humor mocks the sexists, not the women. (I’m a woman and a feminist, and I wouldn’t be a fan of the show if the sexism was meant to degrade women. Those jokes show how ridiculous it is that even after decades of feminist activism, there are still sexist people.)

Q. How can you deem someone's personal preferences to be homophobic, when a sexual preference (ie someone's personal preferences) literally defines homosexuality? If dudes not wanting to be rubbed on by other dudes is homophobic, wouldn't that make men who want to be with men heterophobic? If it's okay to be gay, why is it not okay not to be? Back in our day there was an adage about "sticks and stones" that modern generations should really think about. Believing everything is the same as believing nothing. If you playcate what you don't believe in, you've already placed your self worth in other people's hands, same as if you don't when you do. Acceptance of self means not worrying about it. If you intend to stray from social norms, you shouldn't expect anyone to understand, and if it's truly important to you, you wouldn't care. Thus the only people who virtue signal are those who have no virtue. Live and let live is not the same as go along with whatever is demanded. The first is freedom. The rest is a slave mindset, which is worse than slavery itself.

i think that separating the psychological factors from the neurological ones here is a bit difficult. I mean, If I woke up on a bed and people told me "you survived a metal rod passing through your skull, are now epileptic, have lost one eye etc" I wold probably go like "who the f***ing hell gives a f**k anymore about f***ing temperance and, not cussing and whatever"

She is recognising that Howard and Bernadette are the best thing that ever happened to each other, and is nudging him in a direction that acctually is good for him. And knowing how the show ended, Penny was correct in this case. I also think that Sheldon and Amy are good for each other. Yes, they have some bumps along the way, but they do work through them. I like that the show actually shows that being in a serious relationship is not easy, it is hard work. And for some, the hardship is visible to their friends who genuinely tries to help - even if the help often are, uhm, «misguided» in this show. :-) Greetings from Norway.

The joke of downplaying Howard's Engineering Masters comes only from Sheldon and it's not only on Howard, he mocks all engineers and this is further explained in the spin-off series called Young Sheldon. Spoilers ahead... One lf his teachers who was an engineer, gave Sheldon a problem to solve, every time Sheldon solved it the teacher told him he was wrong, then after Sheldon strugled with that problem, the time to deliver it was over, one of the few if not the only time Sheldon couldn't deliver his homework and it was all because he didn't take into consideration air friction. Also there was this time Sheldon arrived late to class and that teaher didn't let him in unlike his other teachers. That's why he downplays engineers.
