Nutrients come from a wide variety of foods, whether you're primarily a meat eater, a plant eater, or somewhere in between. Rather than getting caught up in the meat vs. plant debate, it’s important to recognize that food tolerance is highly individual, shaped by each person's unique microbiome. What’s undeniable is the significant health benefits of focusing on whole foods and cutting back on ultra-processed options. Supporting soil health, reducing pesticide use, and embracing practices like regenerative farming are fundamental to fostering a more sustainable and nourishing food system.

I have the same instant pot. And setting for temperature is Less Normal More. What setting do you use? I looked at website it said. Less30-34c( 86/93F) Normal 36-43 ( 96/109)
I use normal.
Dr. Davis who wrote a super Git says 99 degrees for 36 hours.
That's for L. reuteri yogurt (not SIBO yogurt). Search the comments for more on this.
@ oh ok my bad.. sorry😬
In the video, you add 1/2 cup of yogurt to the half gallon of milk, which is the equivalent of 8 tablespoons of yogurt. Wouldn't this be too much? On the Whole Shenanigans website, the recipe says, "To make future batches, use two tablespoons of yogurt from a prior batch, two tablespoons of prebiotic fiber, and one quart of half-and-half." Two tablespoons of starter yogurt would be 1/8 of a cup for a quart of milk, so wouldn't I use four tablespoons of yogurt for a half gallon? Perhaps you increase the amount of yogurt because you are using milk, not half and half?
Ah, great question. Honestly, when I make regular yogurt (not SIBO yogurt), I use half a cup of yogurt for half a gallon of milk. So, when I started making SIBO yogurt with a half gallon of milk (rather than a quart of half and half) to increase the quantity, I just kept the same ratio I used with my regular yogurt. However, what you're saying is technically correct. If you just double the amount of yogurt starter you used with a quart of half and half, you would only need 4 tablespoons. 4 tablespoons should work fine. It's probably overkill to use a half cup, and most of the time, I'm just lazily eyeballing it anyway, so I probably don't even use a half cup. Hope that answers your question!
@@WholeShenanigans Thanks for responding! I went ahead and added two massive tablespoons of yogurt to a quart of milk and it has been fermenting for 17 hours, so I'm almost half way to fresh yogurt. Much to my chagrin, I forgot to add the inulin, so I don't know what the end product will be like. Sigh.
I just learned that blueberries and almond are high in oxalate 😢 which very harmful for your body. I don't know what to eat anymore 😕.
Most people can tolerate oxalates without any issues, but for those managing oxalate intake, balancing them with calcium-rich foods (like yogurt!) can help reduce oxalate absorption.
Help my covers blew up and the yogurt foamed out of the jar of two quarts and the one pint with lid and ring was fine but I stopped the process because I figured something was wrong ,but I don’t know what happened?
I don't cover my glass jars (I have the Instant Pot top on, however), but it's totally fine that you do. Make sure you don't screw the lids on your jars too tightly. You may be getting CO2 buildup.
Very good and right to the point video
Thank you so much!
Its the second time I do the recipe of Dr Davis's book of the coconut version and it smell weird and taste not pleasant at all. I use the ferment of just the reuteri stain to start and use a yogourt machine that I just bought. It set at 104F and the timer only go to 14 hours but I reset it to go along until the 36 hours is done. But I'm pretty sure that the result is not good. Something I could try? 🙏
If only using L. reuteri, the recipe is different- You would use a temperature of only 100°F. Also, I'll have a video coming out soon on the coconut yogurt, so maybe that will help you. Since you're not getting the results you want, make sure you sterilize everything!
@WholeShenanigans thank you for that. I'll wait for your next video on coconut yogurt. ☺️
Your editing and presentation is top notch ! The message is very clear.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Is there any other prebiotic than inuline we can use ?
Yep, raw potato starch
@@WholeShenanigans Awesome ! Thank you !
I just made my list prior to this particular recipe. No one else has added anything other than the 10 tablets. Are the other things necessary?
Sounds like you're making L. reuteri yogurt. This yogurt is slightly different (L. reuteri plus B. coagulans and L. gasseri).
How does this compare to Kefir?
Kefir is excellent and has numerous probiotic strains, but those strains can vary greatly. This yogurt happens to provide 3 strains particularly good for treating SIBO. Making your own kefir, however, would definitely be another way to add beneficial gut bacteria. Watch out for store-bought as it often has fewer strains or isn't made from kefir grains.
I have a question. The biogaia contains maltodextrin which according to Dr. Berg will spike blood sugar twice as much as sugar. Is that ok?
As far as I know, the sugars are getting eaten by the bacteria during the 36-hour ferment, not you.
@@WholeShenanigans oh wow, that makes sense. Thank you for answering!
@@rampart1997 for sure!
So you just use the yogurt setting on the instapot and put the jars in there uncovered, correct? Great video by the way
Exactly. Thanks so much!
@@WholeShenanigansDo you use the normal setting for the instapot yogurt setting? There’s also “less” and “more” settings within the yogurt setting to adjust the temperature
@@Timeisluck2006 I use "normal"
@@WholeShenanigansthanks, I think mine turned out ok, although it ended up being about half whey for some reason. Like the jar is half full of the yellow whey. the yogurt smells fine so I think it’s ok, but definitley have a lot more whey than you. I’ll probably try it again
@@Timeisluck2006 Sounds like you're still in good shape. Just use some from that batch to make your next (don't start over again crushing probiotics) and your next back should have much less whey. It might even take you 3 batches to really get it creamy. Let me know how it goes!
Is the there an easier way to consume these strains ?
It's easy once you do it a few times (and saves you a ton of money on yogurt). Otherwise, just take the probiotic, and you may or may not see any benefit (as the bacterial count will be significantly lower).
Do you put water at the bottom before putting the jars in?
No
Just go buy RAW MILK, it has everything you need
What size mason jars are those? It seems I have the same instant pot, but I’m not sure what size jars to buy.
Quart. I have to position them at just the right angle to get my lid to close.
One question, can I use chocolate milk?
No. Sugars can interfere with the fermentation process. Sweeten afterward.
What happens if we add the crushed probiotic tablets to yogurt to produce SIBO yogurt?
Nothing. You have to add them to milk and then ferment. If you add them to yogurt, you're just going to have yogurt with crushed probiotic tablets that you could have as easily just eaten by themselves.
@WholeShenanigans Tq for the reply. So can i add crushed probiotic tablets to warmed whole milk plus yogurt at the right temperature and leave them fermenting for 36 hrs? Would this work?
@@dianaphilip3600 Yes, it could potentially work, but depends on what type of yogurt you're adding and what strains are in that yogurt (you would want to keep everything at an optimal temp for all strains). You also wouldn't want to use a lot of yogurt. Just enough to ferment your milk.
@@WholeShenanigans Great!! Tq
In his book, it says 106°F, are used on the settings, but when I took the yogurt out of my instant pot pro I put a thermometer in the yogurt and it read 109 does that mean all the good microbes were killed? Thanks for your reply I don’t want to keep making it on 106°F if it’s actually going over and what a waste of money the yogurt comes out amazing though, but I want the benefit of all those microbes
I would lower the temp on the instant pot in that case until your YOGURT measures 106 °F. You could test with water. But the good news is I don't think you've killed all the microbes if you made something that looks and smells like yogurt. Otherwise, you'd still be left with milk.
Do you keep the vent close or open when you turn the yogurt function on on the Insta Pot? I don't have a l. reuteri yogurt maker as I don't want to get another kitchen device if I don't know if Ill be able to tolerate the yogurt. I'm trying to figure out some creative way how to make it with what I already have and this way seems could be an option for me. Thank you.
I don't think it matters since the instant pot won't be pressure cooking, but I leave my vent open.
@@WholeShenanigans Agree but wanted make sure. Thank you.
@@sarkakubicova8069 You're welcome!
When you set the machine, was it on the "less" or "more" setting for yogurt? My older model only has those options.
Mine is on "normal." Hope that helps.
good day! great recipe thank you so much! a quick question, can i blend this yogurt into a smoothie? will blending at high speed affect the bacteria?🙏🏼
Great question! From what I've read, the bacteria are way too small to be sheared by blender blades, so make as many smoothies as you want!
thank you so much 🤗🍹
@@AnyaOborska for sure!
Do you add water to the bottom of the instant pot?
I don't.
Your video is the most informative. You answered my question about being able to make further batches from the current batch and also the shelf life. I can do this. Thank you. Oh, and I love yogurt so it may become all I eat. I put homemade vanilla and honey in plain yogurt. So this yogurt may be right up my alley. ☺️
Wonderful! Best of luck to you! Homemade vanilla and honey sounds delicious.
I have rosacea as well. Im scared to have dairy since it flares my face. You did not notice this happening?
I didn't notice the yogurt causing flair-ups. There are other potential triggers in milk, but if you're concerned about lactose, it's minimal in this yogurt because of the prolonged fermentation time. You could also use A2 dairy if you have issues with A1 casein.
Excellent! : )
Thanks for watching!
hi! how do you handle the sour flavor? do you have some tips for the flavor? thanks
Best tip I have is to keep eating the yogurt daily. Your taste buds will adapt if you stay consistent. I used to find the yogurt pretty sour and now absolutely love the taste. I generally douse mine in frozen fruit and almond or peanut butter, too, which helps all the flavors come together.
Can I put it in jars in the oven ?
If you're referring to the warmth produced by your oven light, you should experiment first with water and test with a thermometer to figure out the temperature it maintains.
L reuteri loves it about 97°. Also, the bio Gaia does have a flavor and it will flavor your yogurt for a couple of batches then it fades out. But, that flavor is so good I wish I could buy an extract that has that flavor.
This is not L. reuteri yogurt (thus the different temp). The temp in the video is a happy medium for all 3 strains (search the comments for more on this).
My apologies, i assumed because that's what was on the screen and you mentioned it several times that thats what it was about. My mistake. Its a very good video, in any event!@@WholeShenanigans
@@ljsneed1 Thank you!
@6:40, "microbial death occurs"...is 36 hrs the bacteria lifespan? I beg to differ.
Many thanks - one point, didn’t Dr Davis recommend fermenting at 100°F not 106?
You're welcome! That's for L. reuteri yogurt. For SIBO yogurt he uses 106 as a happy medium for all 3 strains.
Hi! From what I understand, if sugar in any form is added to the yogurt (like berries or honey) it negates the desired bacteria in the yogurt
You wouldn't want to add those during the yogurt-making process (you could end up with a complete runny mess). But as yogurt toppings afterward, it's totally fine!
I just opened my instapot and there is no separation. It looks thick and creamy. I cooked it on the yogurt setting maybe too hot😔. Thank you for the video ❤
You're welcome! If it looks, tastes, and smells like yogurt, you definitely have some microbes that survived. Glad it's creamy!
I'm on my second batch. I'm using my New Wave oven to make it.
Hello from germany , i want to make this sibo youghurt but how can i get the ingredients , starter m gi gaia ?
I have Amazon links in the description box. If they don't ship to you, you'll have to find other brands with the same strains and similar CFUs. Good luck!
why does dr davis have a tutorial of making l ruiteri yogurt with just his MyRuiteri and doesnt use any other strains. Does that mean all you need is that 1 strain to get the benefits? I have raw milk kefir and was thinking about taking 2 of his 20 bill count ruiteri and mixing it with the raw milk kefir and then drinking that right after
He has various yogurt recipes. This video is his SIBO yogurt, but the one you're referring to is just L. reuteri. Each strain has its own benefits. I think there's a lot we still don't know, too, so pick whatever strains you're interested in incorporating.
Can anyone tell me if small doses of this are suitable for children?
This is the best answer I can find from Dr. Davis' website (see the quote from him below or read via the link) drdavisinfinitehealth.com/2019/08/l-reuteri-yogurt-faqs/ "BUT it also became clear that L. reuteri is meant to be carried by most, if not all, humans, obtained via breast milk as an infant. L. reuteri has also been administered in dozens of clinical trials in hundreds of millions to several billion CFUs to children with no ill-effect, only benefits such as reduced infant colic, regurgitation of milk or formula, and faster recovery from post-antibiotic diarrhea. This is why I devised the simple method of making a mixed-culture yogurt that delivers L. reuteri in lower counts and is suitable for children and younger people, including menstruating females. But anyone consuming our high-potency yogurt needs to accept that this is a work in progress and that we are learning lessons along the way, in addition to planning limited clinical trials to further explore some of the effects, especially those on hormonal status."
Your skin was just from alcohol heavy abuse
Hi there, So you can control the temp of your older Instant Pot by PRESSING the Yogurt button UNTIL it lights up under LOW. I tested mine and it keeps the temp at 97.
I had the same results. The instant pot is very accurate in my experience.
Thank you for all of this! I am excited to try. I have suffered with good issues for most of my life. Even seeing a functional doctor and taking exorbitantly expensive supplements has not helped. Could you please tell us if there is an alternative to the half-and-half, if we are truly not supposed to have dairy? I tried asking on one of Dr. Davis’ RUclips videos, but have not had a response, which of course, I understand. I thought I would give it a shot here 😊 Thanks!
You're welcome! Dr. Davis has a coconut milk recipe you can find via this link: innercircle.drdavisinfinitehealth.com/probiotic_yogurt_recipes I'll be making a video on this soon!
I love your hair ❤❤
Awe thank you!
the bubble pops noises well .. lets just say.. i had to turn off sound and just read closed captions
This was an earlier video I made, and I did not realize they were that loud. Sorry for everyone's ears.
How do you clean your yogurt containers to make sure they contain no organisms that can kill the L. ruteri??
I sterilize my glass jars using the "sterilize" button on the instant pot. If you don't have this function, you can boil your jars on the stovetop.
@WholeShenanigans Fab. Thank you 🙏🏼

Can you make it with goat yogurt?
You can make it with goat milk (ultra-pasteurized or pasteurize it yourself), not goat yogurt.
@@WholeShenanigans Thank you that is what I meant to say. If I then "cook" it in scrambled eggs or other things do the good bacteria stay alive?
It's also in the breast milk? So that's how humans when born, get the right bacteria in the first place? So Homelander was onto something after all...
I started making it every day for about 2 weeks now. So far i haven't had any significant changes. I'm trying to get rid of redness you had too. What others things did you do to reduce this redness on the face?
