Always my route home if I had to do a job in Manchester. A fun and interesting drive with good views.
NIce video .....this is one of my favourite rides ....M1 to A616 to A628 {Woodhead} and into Glossop to pick up the A57 back towards Sheffield, then I take the "Strines Road" ....and back home via Oughtibridge & Chapeltown. Ride Safe ..... {from a Rotherham biker}
@@skoorbyrret4578 that’s one of our favourite routes, often via Holme Moss too.
I seem to remember reading that the aircraft altitude was lower than expected due to the design of Altimeters at the time. The pilot 'zeroed' the altimeter at takeoff, but in the course of a flight such basic calibration would sometimes result in losses or gains. Modern systems are constantly controlled in real time giving true readings.
Personally I've ridden the snake on a few occasions and never had any problems, those who have are, as you say often sportsbike riders treating the pass as a track and not the public road it is, and testing themselves, but found wanting, maybe not all but a lot, and of course due to the number of people who have caused RTI's on the pass the authorities take note and reduce the speed limit ect 🤷🏻♂️
It did look quiet on the Snake. Called in at Squires Monday 11th. A good number of bikes out enjoying the unseasonable dry weather. Is that a new helmet?
@@martinowl actually an old helmet that I thought I’d give a run out - big mistake as no internal sun visor!
@ haha, was lucky myself the other day, that mine has a built in drop down visor. November & needing a visor, who would have thought?🤔
I've just downloaded Calimoto and there's no mention of a subscription. Does it ask for it when you use it for the first time?
@@chrishill2680 I had it on a free trial a couple of years ago, didn’t use it for a while and had to down load an updated version which had a free trial period but first time I used it I had complete the subscription form with option of cancelling before payment was due (30 days I think?) but having used it before I was happy to pay annual fee - £49.99 if memory is correct! As a first time user you may get a longer trial period.
Could you please tell me what mudguards you’ve got on your t140 ? Cheers.,
@@johnburton3582 The rear was fitted when I bought the bike but looks like a universal aluminium item . The front was an eBay purchase - short universal alloy item mounted on a std T140 mudguard bracket.
@@johnburton3582 ruclips.net/video/v4FwoCcTA4Y/видео.htmlsi=XEbXRv-CbvVugV2o video pt1 of the front mudguard mounting, there is a pt2 on my channel. The rear mudguard was already fitted when I bought the bike but looks like a universal alloy item ‘adjusted’ to fit. Front was an eBay purchase.
Interesting story, thank you. I own the same bike, bought it new in 2018 when I was not a very experienced rider. I rode 57000 km with it, no commuting, only 250 km or more every ride on twisty roads, and highway to reach them. Had a hard time at the beginning to feel at ease with it, but it was me, I needed to learn more riding techniques. The more I learnt, especially trailbraking, the more the bike reacted well to my inputs, and felt very comfortable and reassuring, and very endearing doing so. I see that you changed your shocks to Ohlins 752, i did too, and rediscovered my bike. I also changed the forks internals for an Andreani Milano kit, which improved the front traction significantly. I believe your hip issue may be linked to the protruding air filter on the right side, making it non symmetrical. It tends to make me sit sideways. Maybe someone could follow you to see your position on the bike, and help you correct your position. Regarding bags, I have the European number plate which makes it easier to load the bike. Regarding the speedometer, mist appeared once, I took it to the dealer, they did something (not sure what) and it didn’t come back. Maybe these minor adjustments could help you feel more at one with the Roadster, which I grew very fond of. I own another more modern and powerful bike, but it’s always the Roadster I feel drawn to, to tackle my favorite twisty roads. Who’d have thought that of a Harley? I think I’ll keep it forever, besides other bikes. If you are decided to move on, may I suggest you check the Kawasaki Z900RS? It may offer the position you look for, and it has a really nice chassis and engine.
@@vincentbeijing6926 hi, thanks for watching and appreciate your comments. I moved on to a Triumph 900 Scrambler which I’m loving and although not perfect has addressed most of the issues I had with the Harley. Check out my later videos to see the bike.
@ this is a lovely bike, good for you!
Agree with your assessment & comments. Practically any motorcycle will provide you with an adventure, you don’t need to be kitted like Ewan & Charlie. Other than specific sport machines, it’s pure marketing hype & nonsense.
@@martinowl I’ve gone camping 2 up on an MZ 150, toured Europe on an SR500, all making great memories.
@@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 Brilliant, some years ago, I seem to recall long journeys on a MZ150 was a bit of a cult thing. lol. I had a CZ175 from 1990 till just a few years ago. Only sold it cos I didn’t have space & it wasn’t getting used. Commuted on it for a number of years.
Isn't an adventure bike a bike that you have adventures on?🤔
@@recidivist11 that’s the point I was trying to make.
I've watched a number of these recent Stafford show videos and think this is one of the better ones, have to say stalls, admirers and bikes on show seem to be down from when I used to show my bikes at Stafford, sadly I don't restore rare classic Japanese bikes anymore but the interest is still there and I'm grateful that people take the time to upload their videos.👍
This show has another 10yrs in it. Look at the age of the punters. I know I'm one of them 😮
@@stephenwilliams926 that could be true of motorcycling in the U.K. in general 🥴☹️
Too true. More and more executors sales coming with no reserve. What will become of all those lovely bikes? The show is getting smaller every year. Lots of empty spaces outside as the traders are retiring. Dealers closing down. Sadly none of the younger generation are interested. Thanks for the memories everyone.
I agree with you and I read the book many years ago 👍🏍️
A route that I have ridden so enjoyed your video 👍🏍️
Some great roads up there. If I ride that far north after a trip around the Peak District, I seem to always get caught up in traffic at Tankersley/Birdwell roundabouts,😢,on my way back to Donny.Lol.
@@martinowl my back yard almost, the routes through Pilley avoid the Tankersley roundabout , you can come out onto the new bypass and head towards Elsecar, Wentworth and get back to Donny on some great back roads.
@@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 will have to look at that & memorise, lol. I know the roads around Wentworth & some Elsecar ,so once I get there plain sailing. These newish roads have changed things. Used to remember going through Wombwell into Holland & hit the M1 there.cheers.
#166.Thanks.
Thank you for sharing.💯

Good workshop set-up mate. Ride to live, live to ride.
Great video and what fantastic scenery I’m surprised that adrenaline rush wasn’t higher up the scale especially when your younger always want to be first to the pub but last up the bar😂😂 but seriously for me it’s a time to just be in the countryside fresh air time to think about life just clear the head to me it’s also a fantastic hobby and I’m in caharge of my destination I always prefer riding alone no towns just nice country twisty roads and a pub stop for one pint perfect life take care ride safe my friend 👍
Some great points raised in this one. Haven’t commuted for a few years now on my bike. When I did commute through winter, I hated the frost, icy mornings , no fun or enjoyment at all. I’ve never considered the image aspect to be important to me. I know it really is a big thing to some. My main concern is to be dressed appropriately for the expected conditions on the day. And I often get that wrong! lol. Never been kitted up like Either a power ranger nor an Angel. Other than that, almost everything else is spot on.
Nice to see the repositioned number plate on the BSA at 5.30. The standard position looks crap !
Worth every minute mate. Just enlisted, takes me back to my early years in the sixties with the sound of the old single. Certainly look out for future views really enjoyed this and your visit to squires keep em- coming I'll look out for you out on the road. Cheers.
I called at Squires thurs morning on my cx for a brew. There was a nice selection of Commandos parked up. That yellow Triumph looked like a Thunderbird sport. Don’t see many of them about.
@@martinowl it was a Thunderbird sport and thinking about it later must be at least 20 years old. Didn’t think to check the number plate
@@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 yea they were a short run model only a couple of years or so, around 96-98, if I remember correctly. Chap across the road had one of the yellow ones, new. I’m sure it was an R plate, but could be wrong.
Legendary and epic. Glorious machine.
See that old man on a bike? I can promise you, there was a surprising life on those two wheels.
Good story, bought a GT185 from Carnell in Doncaster, 1977, when the shop was in the town centre.

Live Free or Die is the official motto of the State of New Hampshire in the US. Its on their license plate. And a tax free state.

@@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 i was wondering where you saw that phrase. ahh makes sense now. New Hampshire is home to 1 of the biggest biker rallys in America LACONIA. Of which I just drove through about 2 weeks ago on holiday at Hampton Beach. We took a day trip up to Laconia Weirs Beach. I grew up in New Hampshire.
Looked like a good turnout with some interesting bikes & cars. You rode through my village( the classy one, with the pit tip at the side of the road, lol). That canal bridge is part of my regular walking route. Oh, & you won’t be milking those cows! One could be sharing your Sunday dinner plate in a few months 😱lol. 👍
Was at revs a couple of days ago. It took you a long way around Maltby when you got there from Braithwell. Hadn’t heard that story about Richard & the cross before. Have seen some of the Calimoto routes another channel. It certainly does take some interesting ‘ lanes, lol.
@@martinowl last year we used it to go to Thornton le Dale on August bank holiday Monday 😱. Apart from one set of road works near Howden we encountered no traffic, no hold ups , no queues and loads of great roads!
@@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 that was a result. 👍
That's really good,
Do you know the Fimber cabin about a mile from Seaways , down that back road?. That’s worth a visit for a brew & a bun, when it’s open. Some great riding on the lanes in the Wolds area, highly recommended. Coming back through Pocklington, it doesn’t matter too much if you miss the turn you wanted because the other exits will take you to the A1079 or A614, then you can get back on track.

Great video of the bikes actually racing the beach 👍
Agree about that road surface around Wentworth. I often go down that way, to friends who live near Wentworth or part of my ride into Derbyshire! That ‘temporary’ road surface has gone well beyond temporary! I think it’s the ‘forgotten road’. On my Enfield Trials I was convinced to replace the knobbly CEAT tyres a good 1000 miles before due! 🙄🤣
Lovely little ride out around beautiful countryside as usual up your way but flat where I am in Essex but been up your way on holiday with the kids years ago but further up than I think you are and I use to love the journey up the A1 I just need to get up there on my bike and enjoy it myself hope your well take care ride safe
