Don’t the different forms of Buddha before gauatama signify different variations of what Buddha is? Isn’t it merely a semantic matter? My understanding is that Buddha, as we know him today, is Gautama’s identity. Am I wrong?

Gautama is the most popular last known to have attained the title of Buddha and the people started using the word Buddha and Gautama interchangeable the large Gautama Statues label just as Buddha made the belief system strong that Gautama is the only Buddha.

He used shunyatavaad of nagarjuna and replaced it with brahmn and took Buddhist concept of interconnected existence and made it equivalence of aatman and brahmn.

If he defeated them in public debates, I wouldn't say he's similar to parties like Congress or BJP playing communal politics. There's a massive difference.

How did he 'destroy' buddhism? He simply debated what he felt was right. If Buddhist ideas were truth, it would have prevailed regardless of whoever tries to introduce new ideas. As a matter of fact... it actually did prevail.

@@particularlyindian It may be possible to create stories but it is impossible to create the extraordinary literary and philosophical literature of Adi Shankara. Besides he established Mutts in 4 corners of India, ensuring that even if one area went into crisis the other 3 will remain and the consistency of these 4 mutts are an evidence that he was a real person. You should watch the ArshaBodha - Swami Tadatmananda channel to really understand Advaita Vedanta
