How to Rig a Trolling Lure Hawaiian Style
This is by no means the only way to rig a trolling lure, but it is my favorite way to rig when trolling for ono (wahoo). I prefer to use a single hook for several reasons. The skirt can get tangled in the hooks when running a tandem hook rig, altering the appearance and action of the lure. Additionally, we will often swing ono directly into the boat without gaffing when they are smaller than about 25 lbs. Extra hooks can make this dangerous when the fish is thrashing around.

WATCH UNTIL THE END when we slide off the back of a full-grown humpback whale!! We were live-baiting with one of my handlines and spinning tackle when a large whale surfaced about 100 ft away. We quickly pulled in our lines as the baby whale approached us. Please see my full video for more details.

What size of tuna you can fish with that system?
The largest tuna I have personally caught on the troll was an 80 lb yellowfin. Customers have reported catching billfish up to 140 lb so far.

Very good video. I do not need one quite as strong but good place to start,
this is so high tech compared to what the maldivians use, we catch marlin and all the game fish on handline, we have a fishing handline roll with some 100kg fishing line and we sometimes use rope, rope i mean we cut the end of it and make it fuzzy (this is only for marlin and wahoo) and for trolling in the old days they trolled with squid and nowadays we buy trolling rigs and attach it to the end, but yeah we still use handline for 150+ kilo gram marlin!
not seen this method of joining wire to mono , would this work with lighter line of the same diameter ?
I have only tried it with cable to mono, but I know commercial longline fishermen will join heavy mono to mono of the same diameter using this method

Thank you! That skirt is still in prototype mode at the moment. It holds up impressively well, but ono can still chomp off a strand here and there.
We dont have Ono here in NZ, altho the odd one has been caught. But I really like the idea for the plagues of Mako's we do have here. Going to try the chain overskirt on a lure that Mako's just wont leave alone.
