That film is mandatory viewing for musicians & all who truly believe in the spirit of music (not just a particular genre, but music itself).
As a person who is just learning guitar I respect you
My all fingers are moving excep these two 😂😂😂
Each to their own, I think it depends what your playing. I hold it various ways depending on the style.
I’m not a fan of the clear banjo head.
What about using the wide side, or one of the rounded edges available from that side? In the case of holding the pick to do that, which way should the pointy end be facing, away from your wrist or toward it?
It might be a reference especially for someone new but everyone is different….their hands, fingers….it’s what works for you. There are many that don’t use picks for most of their playing. That my friend is how you hold your pick and not me.
I tried doing it and it won't work. I just replaced my 6th and 5th strings and my tuner keeps confusing between them (it says that my 5th sting is the 6th and the 6th is the 5th or 3rd) can anyone plz help me?
AWESOME I WISH I COULD PLAY MY GUITAR LIKE THAT, I ALWAYS MOVE MY FINGERS
Black Gold.
I'm taking a week off vacation, this is just really helpful❤
Thanks a lot AI (Acoustic Idaho 😄) for such a beautiful and touching video. Perhaps I am oldschool technocrat using ans promoting technology where ist necessary but not necessarily everywhere. We will the lose human values, touch and emotions. Your story about your young student resonates wi the me except for the difference in age 😉 I started learning guitar recently at late stage of my life and enjoying it exactly like your student. I have become your fan. Keep up the great work!
It's satisfied when you do that haha
One can practice just technically hitting the notes with a mute on, but one of my objectives often is to practice musicality, and that's not really possible with muted bridge or strings. Somehow Scruggs use to be able to pick quietly for a segment of the song without even removing fingerpicks and without sacrificing much tone. I haven't been able to manage that yet.
My tuner doesn’t pick up low E and G string🥲😊
Don’t tell me what to do tho.
Can i use a guitar pick to avoid calluses
I found this show on RUclips, watched every episode. I was born way too late. I'm going to start playing the banjo at 53, but have never played an instrument in my entire life. Let's see how that turns out.
Good job, I would do the hammer on's and then do the toward reverse roll, going a bit to fast. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the video! It would also be great if you could show which famous songs can be played in this way🙏
3 finger technique for the not so shy ladies, they love it! 😋
Most beautiful song on the high e string 9-11-11-11-9-11-11-11-9-11-11-11-9-11-12-12-12-12
Next do Dance De Mardi Gras 😊😊😊 ¯\(°_o)/¯
What a joyous sound ! ❤😊
@@Sourdust-eo4oz Thanks! 😃
Oh good, I been doing it right since 1985
I loved listening to Jerry Reed
Super glue 😉😅
This helps so much
You said the Morgan MNB1 was an open back banjo. The one being played on the video isn't. Which one is it? Thanks.
I personally can’t stand this grip, and use the Hetfield style instead
Wow..... it's hard enough to find metal banjo strings..... I've never even seen plastic strings. The strings are probably 25 dollars.
Those are nylon not plastic.

Does anyone else pinky finger twitch like crazy
There is nothing more American than a banjo!!!!!!!!
Swamp attac
Life changing. Literally holding pick wrong for YEARS. Incredible speed gain tone improvement. My guitar teacher never commented on it. I’m amazed it made so much diff. Felt real weird for about a month😮
if i hold tight, i can play or hitting the strings hard. if i hold loose, it falls. i think practice will make it right, is it? coz I've been playing with index plus middle finger
From where to buy plectrum ?
I never paid much attention to this detail before. Thank God I'm already doing pretty close to this grip.
Looks like a new pair of string
It sure is!
I was shocked when I saw your playing a Lida. I too have a Lida. Always thought they where a cheapy until I saw you playing yours. Mine does sound great. I am amazed.
That's awesome! I love my Lida. It's a wonderful banjo.
How beautiful!😍😍😍
Thanks!
I always wanted to learn neat things like this, so happy I picked my guitar up 9 weeks ago, wild! I love it!
How unique! Thank you and amazing job recording too! the camera trick and finger picking has me blown away😄🙏🏽💪🏽
Many thanks! :-)
I don't have the best control with that technique
if you tune down to f#, it won't be easy to play with anybody else.
This is true. It is mainly for someone who typically plays by themself.
The "wrong way" you show is actually the way electric guitarists with the best clean tone hold their pick, also has to do with angle but I can't elaborate because races don't exist
wow, I should thank you forever, this works great
@@hzg4013 Thanks! Happy to help!
agreed
When I first started playing guitar this was my natural way of holding it because I also play snare drum, I didn't know that this was the best way to do it!
Naw man. I been studing this. True its faster being closer to the pivot point of the wrist but you cant angle the pick naturally with that grip. Youll get sore and tired. I cant feel without my finger tips involved. So ima stay 3 fingered hettfieldish. Edit. I just did it I noticed, I do both. I can't palmate as good 3 fingered so I notice I slip into the 2 finger style to palmate.
