HOW TO SPOT YOURSELF WITHOUT CELL SERVICE USING THE GARMIN INREACH
Being out in the back country with no cell service is not a good idea without some sort of satellite communication. You can use that same gear to spot yourself for POTA and many others using APSPOT.

Park rangers are naturally drawn to radio set ups. The reason I came up with? They want to make sure you’re not illegally tracking animal tracking devices.
@@lister710 that’s interesting
I've been using my Spor X device for this. I really want a Garmin inreach mini, though. The SOS button gives peace of ming in the backcountry! Thanks for the video.
Absolutely and thanks for watching my friend! 73
Good tool to have if you venture to areas without cell service a lot. Waiting for Apple to start their satellite service soon. I would use that from time to time. I’m curious to see how well it’ll work. 73!
Yeah no doubt! I’m curious to see how it works myself.
what a good-nifty device you have. hope I can fnd same here locally
It sure is my friend! Thanks for watching, 73
Do you ever make your activation on JS8CALL?
Good info, and smart. I'm sure your loved ones appreciate it !
Thanks my friend!
I have between trying to get you in my POTA Hunter log for awhile now. AK is one of the hard states to catch from Indiana. Do you normally activate running QRP, I see that you were using the 705?
We will make it happen! No it’s a mixture between QRP and 100 watts. More of the 100 watts though!
@@KL7ECoutdoorssounds like a plan. It seems that I have better luck in the winter months making AK contacts.
Great video. Where do I go to get a satellite Subscription.?
All of the satellite devices on the market offer subscriptions. Garmin inReach, Spot, Zoleo and others. If you have an iPhone 14 or above and iOS 18 they can also send text messages using satellite. In iOS 17 it was only for SOS but with iOS 18 it was expanded to support SMS, Find My, Roadside assistance and SOS
Thanks! If you pull up the Garmin inreach plans, you can choose between three of them I believe. I just have the middle plan
Wondering if this works with ios 18 and its new satellite texting on iPhones 14 and newer? Sense it’s doing the same as the inreach
No reason it wouldn't. There is no limitation to the phone number used in SMS over satellite with iOS 18
Hmm…you know, I don’t see why it wouldn’t
@@KL7ECoutdoors time for some testing 🤔🤔
You mean, finally a reason to have an IPhone ??? LOL !!

Excellent video and thank you. Next question - how do you synch the time without internet when running FT8 digital mode in Alaska remote locations.
I have a GPS dongle for my laptop
Thanks my friend! We do that by using a GPS dongle
Great info. Thanks for the video.
Thanks my friend!
Hey Jeramy, great video! I especially liked that it was short, to the point, step by step. As you might suspect, I have a Garmin InReach Mini 2. I was just wondering the last few days if there was a way to do POTA Spots - and your video popped up! Thanks! 73 my friend! Rodger KJ7LLX PS- If you're looking for video ideas, I'd appreciate your explanation on how to do SOTA Spotting, and Tracking with the InReach!
Thanks my friend and for the suggestion! 73
@@rodgermckeon it’s identical except you’d use SOTA INSTEAD OF POTA and of course a SOTA reference instead of park. Example: !ABC1DE SOTA W7A/AW-001 14.347 SSB comment
Thanks for this video Jeramy. I have played with this a bit and it works pretty easily. Next activation without cell service will be much easier! KO4TXN

Got to love care refresh I learned with the mini 3 pro water it went and I had to pay the rest of the drone off had 5 months of payments left when it happened. Got the air 3 guess what got the care refresh and a week later into the water was In sport mode trying to get low shots and boom to low but was covered by dji 99 bucks got a brand new drone then just lately I had a small crash with the new one and the legs were a little loose so when I was flying straight I could see a wobble kinda so 99 bucks got me a new drone. Lol I used the 2 for the year plan I had so have to be careful until I can renew it in a few months but when I get the air 3s I will be getting the 2 year plan which gives you 2 fly away and 2 regular refresh. Dji is amazing to have such a great option for there customers considering your paying 99 bucks for a 900 drone by itself so everyone that is considering buying a drone get the care refresh you can't predict what can happen you could hit a bird and by by drone so play it smart so you don't end up droneless with batteries as a remote lol
That is awesome! Yeah I need to get that. Thanks for watching!
As soon as I can get my rig operational it’s on- new competition coming your way.
That’s awesome my friend! Bring it! 73

When US 11392 Paw Paw River State Game Area was added to the program I was hoping to be the first to activate it since the park is within 15 minutes of my house. Unfortunately my schedule didn't allow me to be the first one. I was the fourth person to activate it and no one has attempted since I have been there. There are 22 contacts between me and the leader.
Oh wow! Thats a bummer. It’s all fun and games, we tease each other….a lot….i mean a lot 😆 Thanks for watching my friend, 73!
@@KL7ECoutdoors fortunately it is a bit more difficult to access so I might be able to become the top activator. Although I am going to wait until spring since archery season for deer started in Michigan today and I doubt the access road is going to be maintained in the winter.
@@DarkShadowCustoms nice! I miss deer hunting!
@@KL7ECoutdoors I am sure there are other game animals in Alaska that you can hunt. With deer season upon us here in Michigan I will be slowing down on POTA activities until the end of the year. However when I head to deer camp in November I plan to take my G90 and activate US-0767 Sleeping Bear Dunes since I will only be 20 minutes from the park. I might also attempt US 6827 Platte River Fish Hatchery and US 1547 Traverse City State Park while I am in the area. There are other parks in my area I can activate as well. I definitely won't be going into the state game areas until spring though.
Everyone was your friend! Lol

Absolutely my friend! It’s a game changer for sure. Thanks for watching! By chance is any of you going to the hamfest in Kenai this weekend?
I got my first ticket when code was required, but drifted away from the hobby for many years. By the time my interest rekindled, code was no longer required. I used to be fairly proficient in it, but my more recent "rust busting" attempts haven't gone as well as hoped. Like you, turning up the letter speed actually helped. I think that helps us focus on the rhythm and pattern sounds rather than trying to count dots and dashes. I'm still fighting two problems. One is anticipating the word and getting out of whack when it's something unexpected. Second is letting one missed letter turn into 5 missed letters. Maybe one of these days I'll build up the nerve to try a CW QSO. Keep up the good work! 73 de N8ESP
Thanks my friend and thanks for watching! Yeah I still have the same problem of missing one character. Like you said now I’ve missed 5 characters. We gotta keep practicing. 73 my friend

Two questions from things you mentioned: 1) Why would underground power specifically create more interference than overhead lines? I would have thought the opposite. 2) Does the BuddiHex still attach to the uppermost section even though you’re not supposed to extend the last two with it? It would be nice if the design allowed them to still extend *through* it to put a basic VHF/UHF vertical above the hex beam. Propagation may still be tricky, but you certainly don’t have to worry about someone interested in returning your call now!
Thanks my friend! I’m no expert but would imagine due to the transformer being on the ground. Yes the buddihex attaches to the top section. I’ve extended the mast all the way but didn’t have any wind. It wanted to bend until I got tension on it with the guy lines and it straightened right up. Thanks for watching my friend! 73
I like your videos and epic editing style. I love Alaska. You're blessed! Bubba, get me out of the lower 48! I did get DJI care refresh... I shake every time I launch my mini pro 4. Sport mode off! Thanks for the advice and for taking the time to make us these videos!
